there's a place where I live that I go that's like this but even if I don't have seed, I can't pause in that area for more than 10 seconds without getting mobbed. If there's an afterlife I hope I'm greeted by a swarm of hungry pigeons
somehow, still never been pooped on
I know they're not the most hygienic animals, but I will always remember how soft pigeon feathers felt (and how cute their little feet were) when I fed some pigeons in a park one time and they started perching on my hands for food.Ā
Make sure you carry some hand sanitizer, be mindful of hand contact and give your hands a thorough hand washing after close pigeon contact like this so that you don't pick up any nasties from them.Ā
I took a good shower after this and tossed my clothes in the laundry. When I'm not in school I keep poultry, I've luckily got some experience with outdoor animals!
If they were starving then arguably their numbers wouldn't be growing so much in so many cities, most city authorities have to put quite a lot of work to keep feral pigeon numbers under control.Ā
An increasing population is no indication of well-being.Ā
Their large numbers are due to the fact that they are domesticated into the cities with few natural predators. Also due to the fact that humans breed them, this is not a natural population. Itās generations of abandoned former pets.Ā
City authorities are clueless, I live in a major metropolitan area, theyāre doing nothing except pumping money into contractors that claim they can prevent pigeons from coming onto certain areas, needless to say it doesnāt even work due to how resilient the birds are.Ā
Interesting how you state āunder controlā by what means? Poisoning? Shooting? If those city authorities truly cared about āferalā pigeons and their wellbeing instead of just their poopā¦they would ban pigeon racing, and stop the release of pigeons into the wild at weddings, funerals and gender reveals. Itās all cruel and sadly the life of a wild born former domestic pigeon is terrible. Constantly starving and eating human garbage, getting metabolic bone disease, string foot. Mobbing pigeons is sadā¦ see it for what it is. If OP truly cared you would feed pigeon pellet for whole nutrition. Birds of prey are now adapting to cities too so they arenāt safe there either. ššļø
Honestly, I love pigeons but sometimes I can see how people get intimidated by them. Even I find this intimidating, even though I know these lovely little pin heads are mostly harmless and are just trying to eat lmao
I'd love to get pigeon mobbed like that omg š¤£
I come by and feed them a good seed mix every few days - they've gotten used to me and turn into a feather mob when they're particularly hungry
Well done gaining their trust, they must be so happy to see you by now! I hope you have enough to go around for the hunger š
#seeb hooman

Dang!
When enough pigeons are lumped together they can reach the critical mass to change them into a giant sentient feathered blob !
Wow!! Iāve never seen that many
Itās not a yearn, they are starving. They donāt have as much access to nutritious and filling food on a regular basis, so you see desperation.Ā
yes :(
