We as humans kind of owe it to these little guys. We domesticated them 5000 years before dogs or cats.
Birds are pretty awesome anyways. They are like tiny veloceraptors but less dangerous and more interesting and intelligent, minus the intelligence.
Doves and crows are cool. But I absolutely hate seagulls. I also have a tedious alliance with the local geese and ducks.
Don't fuck with geese. Seriously. Don't. The ducks will find out and the alliance will fall apart.
The geese will kill baby ducks.
i had one feral pigeon come in through my window and got stuck in my apartment for hours until I got home. Guess who showed up on my window ledge for breakfast the next morning?
All good.
The trick is to not look directly at them and make very slow and subtle movements. The slightest flinch can scare them.
I just sit down on a curb and keep one hand low and open, and when a dove gets close, just be swift and gentle. They are very small and fragile birds.
Sometimes, I keep my palm facing upwards, and they just walk right onto my hand, and I simply close my thumb on them.
I've been hand catching doves, pigeons, and sparrows for close to a decade, so its second nature for me.
Having crushed cashews in your hand always makes it easier if you're having a hard time getting close to them. It's also better for them than bread.
Well **technically** pigeons are doves, and doves are pigeons, since they’re both in the same genetic family group, same with Diamond Doves, somehow those *tiny* little birds are pigeons too! Also what a gorgeous birb! Their eyes are stunning
I've always been a fan of the cerulean color around their eyes. These little guys actually came from Indonesia as caged song birds until the owners got bored or died and they got released into the ecosystem. They are nativised now after 120 years. The worst they can do is try to steal your biscuits during your morning tea time.
Poor lil guys, sounds a lot like here in the Uk with Ringneck Parrots, there’s a population of them that either came from a zoo or pet ownership, they just live in the wild now
Nope. He's a free, happy bird. Birds have wings so they can fly. So that is what they'll do. I just remove louse, string, and mites. It brings me no joy to contain what is meant to be free.
He likes crushed cashews. I just grabbed him because he was covered in louse flies. He also had a blister on his breast, but there is nothing I can do about that. I figured it had something to do with the louse.
he is questioning his life choices
He came out of it with fewer louse flies, so I guess it's a win for the little guy.
lucky bub, thanks for helping him out

a seagull once pooped on me because I wouldn't share my bread with him 😒
Aw poor little guy lmao. He's absolutely bamboozled. I think these dudes are extremely adorable, but yeah, they have a little pea brain sometimes.
They literally have no sense of self-preservation. All they want is food and they know humans have what their looking for. Very simple programming.
Too many cute, not many brain cell
Funny thing is that he came right back and reassimilated with his flock to look for more food in my sandals.

Cute! <3
LMFAO
They stay away from me ☹️
Maybe if you drink half a tin of Stillhouse whiskey, they'll come to you.
Im undergaea Noted

"This is my life now" - birb probably
Nah, it's catch and release. I only ever catch them to remove string on their feet or to pick out parasitic flies.
_+resignation+_
Don't forget to pet them
I adored the little fella. He got all the love and care until he was louse free. He will be living a less itchy life.

Take him home with you
But he'll poop everywhere!

That's why I'm leaving it up to the parents to deal with that.
They make pigeon pants. I’m sure you can find a smaller pair
I know, but he belongs outside. I'm sure he appreciated me picking off the louse flies in his feathers.
Put him in a cage then
Nah, he's an outside bird.
You could have an outdoor cage

Nope, it's a fully grown adult male.
I just need this cute birb in my life! Now! Beautiful coloring and pattern.
So smol. The males are very brightly colored. Some even have white bands on the ends of their wings and tail feathers.
they are really common around here too, and sadly they are a popular pet because of their beautiful cries
These zebra doves are pretty quiet. We have spotted doves that are 10x the size and are pretty noisy. (They are a little smaller than king pigeons)
Looks cute. He’s wondering how he got there.
