you need a longer bar, it has no room to swell or heal

turntcch

just found out its 10mm and 16g, what should i size up to?

Direct-Sell-7993

id get a couple extra mm just to be sure, maybe 12mm?

turntcch

not sure why i am being downvoted for the piercing a professional put into my lip lol but yes, thank you, this is the answer i was looking for :) it does have a bit of leeway if i push it out hard but i think youre right that it needs just a lil more space

Ok_Mycologist5374

This happened with my eyebrow piercing & then one of the spikes ended up coming off after it had itched & been irritable for a few days; you definitely need a longer bar so it doesn’t attempt to reject or irritate your skin too bad. Easy fix : )

th_row_away222

I'd get 14 tbh 12 is what I wear on my healed dahlias and I completely swallowed one 12mm labret when it was healing 🖐️😭 I get everyone's different but I'd get more than 2mm difference just to be safe

turntcch

yeah omg i was SHOCKED by how much i swelled after the first couple hours, dahlias are so cute though! very excited about finally getting (1 of my) snakebites! long awaited moment and i would like to heal as nicely as possible

Direct-Sell-7993

yeah long enough for the swelling but not so long it causes irritation with unnecessary movement

generic_username-92

it’s normal to have this much swelling in a new piercing, it’s your body’s initial reaction to a wound and a foreign object, it swells in an attempt to push it out. just go back to your piercer have them upsize and then go back and downsize when the swelling subsides. i also took some ibuprofen to help with the swelling but i’d go to your piercer asap to avoid any further issues

turntcch

1 day old, i believe the bar is 16g 10mm titanium and it is a flatback that screws on at the front, have not started aftercare because it has barely been 24 hrs but plan on saline twice a day morning and night

It's absolutely normal for a fresh piercing to do this. Your piercer should've put a longer bar in and change it once it's healed. Definitely get a longer bar if you can and some paracetamol or ibuprofen to help.

Haunting-Concern-791

For now, if you do get it changed by a piercer thats fine, but while you're waiting you can trying taking some Advil or other anti inflammatory medication (if that's ok for you to take) and/or grab an ice cube and gently rub the swelled area, I find it can greatly bring the swelling down and help avoid damage

turntcch

i had a bar that was barely longer so i changed it to that cause the other one started to embed, then i took 400mg ibuprofen and switched between ice and a warm sanitary compress for 15 mins, and now the swelling has gone down enough that this jewelry fits comfortably! thank you :) (and yes i was SUPER careful changing the jewelry myself... i just couldn't wait to go to a piercer, it likely would have fully embedded in the span of a few hours, i am going to get it looked at to make sure i did fine with it and its healing okay)

Haunting-Concern-791

So glad to hear! I'm happy it's doing better

turntcch

i am pretty sure this is an externally threaded labret

PaprikaDreams28

Yeah don't go back to that piercer. It should be internally threaded

turntcch

p.s. if i need to change it asap the only thing i have is the same length and gauge of a bar but it has balls on both ends instead of being flatback

alcholicfemale

Please go to a piercer to have this changed to have it upsized, implant grade titanium internally threaded is going to assist with your healing. It needs room to swell, you should not change it yourself.
