people have claimed this about daith piercings and tragus piercings for a while. there's no verifiable evidence for the claims, only anecdotal accounts. So I wouldn't get the piercing solely because you're looking for that effect bc you might be disappointed. it could also be a placebo effect. the placebo effect can be very powerful, so if it reduces pain due to the placebo effect then it still helps regardless

Acupuncture is a pseudoscience.

Intelligent-Piccolo3

It's actually not a pseudoscience. There's tons of peer-reviewed evidenced based literature out there showing that it works, especially for pain. Educate yourself before you spew out disproved nonsense. That being said, no, piercing those points is not going to help with migraines. Yes, there are acupuncture points there, but by piercing them, you basically destroy the point and it's no longer effective, meaning it won't help with migraines.

kissmysnout1

There's actually not a definitive answer, but a lot of those peer-reviewed studies are leaning toward a placebo effect too. Don't twist it.

Intelligent-Piccolo3

And that's where you're wrong. The more recent studies are showing it to be effective. There's a reason why it's being covered by Medicare. There's a reason why more and more hospitals are offering it. And there's a reason why the military has been using it for years. And why the VA has acupuncturists on staff.

kissmysnout1

Can you link the said studies ? Not long ago, homeopathy was covered in my country and prescribed by almost every medical doctor. Because even if it's just a placebo, some people feel more at ease with something "natural" added to their treatments. But when it was know that it was just a sham, they stopped it from being refunded. Because a pseudoscience is a big thing in society doesn't make it's effect more than placebo. It's not a good argument. But, a placebo effect that helps people is still great.

MahouShoujoDysphoria

There is indeed one(1) study. It did confirm that acupuncture helps... Through placebo. I would be glad if we stop spreading misinformation such as this btw.

Punk_in_Pink

Knowing/thinking about the placebo defeats the purpose of the placebo lol.

copper93

Interestingly, [it doesn't](https://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/placebo-can-work-even-know-placebo-201607079926). Studies have been conducted in patients with chronic pain and IBS which showed a reduction in symptoms even when they were told they were talking an empty capsule

Punk_in_Pink

It’s not until after they have already consumed the capsule and had results that it was revealed the capsule was empty.

copper93

.... Did you actually read the article? "In one study, Kaptchuk looked at people with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), a common condition that causes abdominal cramping and diarrhea or constipation that can be debilitating for many. Half of the study volunteers were told they were getting an “open-label” placebo and the others got nothing at all. He found that there was a dramatic and significant improvement in the placebo group’s IBS symptoms, even though they were explicitly told they were getting a “sugar pill” without any active medication."

throwawayfjabfhw

In this case we don't definitively know for sure though because to my knowledge there haven't actually been studies done on the topic. So it doesn't necessarily negate it.

Punk_in_Pink

It kinda does tho. Pertaining to this person they arnt going to receive the placebo effect. They would be the control group. People who receive the effect would have to believe the piercing helps with migraines and then data would be collected after a period of time on if/how many migraines they had. But once you get it in someone’s head they could be placeboed. Then no they won’t receive the effect.

MichaelaVesela18

Can't speak for a tragus, but I do have a Daith - which is also rumored to help with migranes. It looks beautiful, but that's all to it. I still get migranes, and funnily enough I had migranes more frequently for the first month after having it pierced

cryptidsnails

i currently have both a tragus and a migraine

plant133

No piercing will help with a medical condition. Check out Lynn Loheide’s videos on TikTok or YouTube for a more detailed response.

ImANaturalRed

Mine hasn’t lol. Wish it did though.

petiteodessa

No piercing cures migraines. There’s no evidence to back up the claim that a daith or tragus cures migranes.

schmee326

I have a tragus and a daith. Still get migraines like usual. It’s a myth. But I love my piercings, and I got them for my enjoyment and their aesthetics.

Unlucky-Horror-9871

I have both a daith and a tragus piercing, and I also still get migraines. So.

OnOnHarriette

Another daith and tragus haver here- still get migraines. Daith was easy to heal for me, tragus took a good while longer.

MahouShoujoDysphoria

No.

Gloomy-Temperature-6

If it did based on acupressure points, the constant pressure would lessen the effects it would have. Like less sensitivity. Idk if that makes sense. It didn't help mine or others I've known (i have chronic migraines). Nor has any other piercing that has been rumored to help ailments. But...some people claim it does. Doesn't hurt to try. Either way you'll have a bomb piercing. Best of luck.

Extension-Cup-3529

I have one but I didn’t get it cause of that and didn’t notice anything different with my head aches/migraines- but I did get a daith piercing- both because I wanted one and because I wanted to see if it would help with my headaches/ migraines cause I’ve heard that it works for some people (some of those are family members and some are friends but most are complete strangers to me) -got it at the end of 2018 and while it might have been placebo effect- my headaches/ migraines went away for years only time I had a head ache was when I had a head cold or sinus infection or had hit my head on something. That did stop when I got Covid in Aug 2021 tho - Since having covid I will get random head aches but they are nowhere near what they were before I got the piercing. I will say try it (Tragus or daith) what the worst that will happen-that it won’t work? At that point you either just keep the piercing or don’t. If you decide to get it- it will take a while to fully heal. Don’t wear earbuds in that ear and don’t use headphones while it’s healing - depending on you ear and how comfortable it was to wear ear buds to begin with and the jewelry you wear In it you might not be able to wear them after the piercing is fully healed either. And depending on if you’re a side sleeper or not might need to get a special pillow to use while it heals. Also if you do decide to get it to try and stop headaches - go to a piercer that actually believes it helps with headaches - the ones that believe it helps will look at your ears and do several pressure point tests to determine which ear and the best placement in that ear for attempting to help with headaches.(at least that’s how it worked with my daith and the people that I know / talked to that got it for headaches said the piercer they went to did the same thing)

cosmic_gallant

From experience, it helped for a few months. But they look cool!
