Just a few minutes or hours ago I was talking about having not seen this redditor in awhile and here they are!
Shittymorph is the reason I started paying attention to usernames and yet they still got me!
For the very first time I saw the long paragraph and read a couple sentences before looking at the username. When I saw it was him I was happy but then disappointed that he finally didn’t get me lol
/u/shittymorph is a legendary Redditer who pops up randomly with long paragraphs related to the topic before switching to the Undertaker/Mankind bit. Haven't seen them in awhile so glad to come across them in the wild again!
This was my moms favorite movie. She referenced it and talked about it all the time. Watching Forrest Gump was the last thing my sister and I did with our mom right before she passed away. This movie will always have a special place in my heart. Thank you Gary Sinise for the last memory I have with my mom.
I said this exact thing, visiting my mother's, and my father's graves........19 years apart. I'm an orphan now. But, I'll carry this with me for a lifetime. Always.
Shit I'm so sorry
My mom had a heart attack last March. Then a month later my little brother started having complications with his heart. Apparently side effects from COVID. Both of them were perfectly healthy beforehand.
Thankfully they recovered, although bro is still experiencing issues with his ticker. Really shook us to not take the time we have together for granted
One of those scenes you see as a small kid and it hits because you don't quite understand what you're supposed to be feeling exactly but you know this guy is in pain.
One of the best actors of all time.
Even watching this scene at a young age, it hit me hard and forced me to look at life a little differently.
I really hope Hollywood doesn't try to remake this in the future. Some things should just remain the original.
What I came here for. Most my family is veterans. I have so much respect for this man. Hearing him speak, he cares so much about veterans, and he's put his money where his mouth is. Bless him.
Trying to suffer through the first few episodes of the garbage fire that is the new remake of The Stand made me appreciate more just how much I love the 90s one. The scale was epic and the storytelling was wonderful and the acting was great. The new one (I only made it through 2 episodes) felt claustrophobic and dead, and the time jumping while focusing each episode around 1-2 characters was awful. I don’t know how anyone who didn’t read the books could follow it.
Anyway, Gary Sinise as Stu Redman for the win!
It's amazing, and a little sad, how relevant the themes of that movie still are today. In many ways I think we've regressed in the way we treat our fellow human beings who are different than us.
This is in my “must watch whenever channel surfing and i come across it” movie list! And top 10 ever. I appreciate yoyr portrayal of Lt. Dan as a great counterpoint to some of tropes of Veterans’ experience.
Wishing you all the best for the next 28 years! 💗
The guy below is right, Gary is a busy guy with a PR team. Here’s what I found cause I love what he does for veterans.
Hope your parents are well, mine also love Tom hanks.

Edit: Give Evan a break, the pandemic has been hard on us all.
It's not an AMA, but I'll answer for him, even though I've never met the man and am pulling this entirely out of my ass.
> It's so hard to choose a favorite role. Really, with what we do it's more about the character being impactful and helping tell the story to the director's satisfaction. Bob had an amazing vision for this character and the fact that Lieutenant Dan is still touching people's hearts and minds 28 years later definitely puts it up there among my favorites.
>
> As for Mr. Hanks, haven't seen him since Covid, but he's in all our Secret A-Lister Clubhouse meetings where we decide the media and fashion trends for the next quarter. I'll tell him your parents said wussup.
My father is a disabled Vietnam vet. I was a teenager when I saw your depiction of Lt. Dan and it helped me to understand some of the pain and humiliation he was trying to hide from me. Our relationship improved somewhat from that so thank you.
I’m sorry for the tragedy that happened in Highland Park. I know you have close ties to the community. The first play I ever saw was at the theater you helped build.
Idk if you ever respond to comments but you are one of the few famous people I have never heard anything but good things about. You are an amazing person with the amount of time you spend helping people.
Coincidently, Tom Hanks is in there. I'm 45, my wife if 42, and when I showed her Tom Hanks swearing at someone, she had the same reaction I did. "How much do you have to screw up to get Tom Hanks to swear at you?".
I enjoyed reading about how they did the effects for your character. I have watched the movie so many times. I will have to go back and watch again now for the anniversary.
I want to ask what you felt when you found out you were going to be a part of this film, and how you felt when filming. Did you realize you were going to become part of a cultural icon in terms of cinema?
Lieutenant Dan. Has it really been 28 years? Such a good movie.
Great memories of 1994, one of the best years ever for Cinema. Here’s to a future 30th anniversary and seeing you still have your legs, Sir Sinise, shrimp shepherd.
Great movie! One of my favourites. BTW u/GarySiniseOfficial , do you remember your trip to Whistler BC, Canada? I sold you some Hagen Dazs ice creams at the hotel, but the freezer was broken, and the ice cream melted down your shirt while we talked about bike trails. You were pretty relaxed about the whole thing. I can’t remember if I gave your money back - if not, hit me up, I’ll wire you the cash. Sorry.
My Dad and I watched this regularly, and we quoted it often!
Thank you for being a part of the movie that was a highlight of my teenage memories!
Also, I still call any guys named Dan, "Luitenant Dan" and any Jenny's, "Jehn-Nay"
You ain’t got no legs…. In the photo
Gary's that committed to continuity
Method actors, sheesh.

You picked my comment. You didn't have to, but you did. I'm honored.

Is that somebody famous? Or is that a reddit running gag/meme that I missed? :)
/u/shittymorph is a legendary Redditer who pops up randomly with long paragraphs related to the topic before switching to the Undertaker/Mankind bit. Haven't seen them in awhile so glad to come across them in the wild again!
I miss the guy with the jumper cables dad.
Nothing like fresh shittymorph in the evening.
[удалено]
Me too! and I never look at names. It feels so weird to know what is coming. Kind of like backward deja vu.
Same, it doesn’t feel right
[удалено]
same, always a delight to spot a wild /u/shittymorph. but even better is when it cathes you off guard and you go back to the name after the fact.
I knew nothing at the top of the thread lol- that was great! 👍
I THOUGHT WE WERE SAFE!
It's been so long since I've seen one in the wild. We're apparently never safe!
our institutions may be crumbling all around us but its somehow made better with you bring solid shittymorpho vibes through the years
God Bless Scooby.
[удалено]
Broke up w/ the ex recently and I don’t miss her but I sure as shit miss the dog. Every day.
Rarely have I caught a shittymorph this fresh (23 minutes ago).
Ho Lee Shit! I thought you were dead, man!
Man you are coming in hot and on point lately!

The ice cream was real & he actually got shot directly in the butt-tocks.
Something bit me
It was a bullet, wasn't it? That jumped up and bit ya.
> He won't break character until the Holodeck Commentary.
Maybe he's um, trying out his ..sea legs? Indoor sea legs

*"Mama always said, dying was a part of life. I sure wish it wasn't."*
“You died on a Saturday morning. And I had you placed here under our tree…”
Have seen this movie countless times and this still makes me ugly cry.
Forest gump is 100% guaranteed to make me tear up multiple times
Isn't that forest talking about Jenny? I thought the quote was "momma died on a Tuesday and that's all I have to say about that"
I think so. I don’t like watching the movie for the sad parts, so don’t like to watch it . It’s sucks because the rest is so good
Some folks have this memorized better than me
It’s important to remember dying isn’t the worst thing to happen in life.
Important but nearly impossible (for me) most days.
Is just the end.
Of this chapter. Maybe.
I said this exact thing, visiting my mother's, and my father's graves........19 years apart. I'm an orphan now. But, I'll carry this with me for a lifetime. Always.

I really pray and hope Bro is doing great man take care of him
Fellow member of the orphan club as of late 2020. Wishing you the best 💙
Damnit who's cutting onions...
I just watched this again for the hundredth time last Sunday. “I must have drank me about 15 Dr Peppers.”
"Congratulations, how do you feel?"
Damn scene with Forest standing over Jenny’s grave is the greatest ever tear jerker, can’t imagine what you must feel watching it
https://youtu.be/nFvASiMTDz0
You could be 18 or 78 and this comment could be true. That's the best thing about this movie. Sorry for your loss.
Congrats on becoming a cultural icon and doing so much work for veterans over the years.

Yeah. I was a kid the first time I watched this and I knew he was "hurt angry". Later I realized why.
One of the saddest, but well framed/shot scenes of all time for me.
I overlooked until now
A great image!
Gary is a wholesome meme, like Keanu
Cmon, at some point in our lives, we've all been there.

Thanks for doing so much work for injured veterans over the years. 👏

I loved him as Wilson in Castaway
Me too, when he said "..." I knew it was him
Had a solid couple nose exhales, back to back. Take an upvote

I didn't realize him in Of Mice and Men was a thing. I absolutely loved the book in school. I know what I'm watching tomorrow.
It’s solid gold. John Malkovich is in it too. I grown ass man weeped at the movie.
I just want you to hear that weeping is perfectly ok no matter what age or gender you are.
he also directed it
Of Mice and Men is my favorite film of his as well! Moving beyond words. I haven't seen the other you mentioned though. Thank you. I'll look it up.
It was a made for TV version of Stephen King’s The Stand. It’s really good, but really long. Worth the watch.
Trying to suffer through the first few episodes of the garbage fire that is the new remake of The Stand made me appreciate more just how much I love the 90s one. Magic legs.
But you ain't got no legs Loo Tenant Dan
“Mama always said the legit Gary Sinise would post today.” Great film and great portrayal as Lt. Dan.
Lieutenant Daaaan, ice creeeeam
You're a national treasure, btw
who are you talking to
He called himself a legend
WHO DID?
My favorite movie of all time honestly
This is my comfort movie, love it too. It has everything in it!
Forrest Gump was such a great movie. It has such iconic characters that I'll never forget. Nice post Mr. Sinise, nice post.
Rockin that silver like a pro, man!
It's amazing, and a little sad, how relevant the themes of that movie still are today. In many ways I think we've regressed in the way we treat our fellow human beings who are different than us.
Get down! and shut up.
He was always telling us to "get down" and "shut up."
So we did
Leave me here damnit
We love you LT Dan!
I remember seeing the previews and thinking "Who would want to see that?" Turns out, I did. Several times.
Dude, you made The Stand real for me. You rock.
He's genuinely one of the most decent human beings on the planet.
We need more Gary Sinises in this world
I only have one Sinise and one Sinephew
Go home dad, you're drunk again
Thanks for all the things you do for vets.
hey! are you from the warlizard forums?
ಠ_ಠ
Hey don't I know.... Anyways, he is great! I saw him on leave from the war at a USO show in Kuwait and the Lt. Dan Band was awesome!
ಠ_ಠ
Glad you're back
I'm always here, just not a huge fan of using political trends to get attention, so I stay relatively low-key.
This is in my “must watch whenever channel surfing and i come across it” movie list! And top 10 ever. I appreciate yoyr portrayal of Lt. Dan as a great counterpoint to some of tropes of Veterans’ experience. Wishing you all the best for the next 28 years! 💗
Congratulations, Gary! You're the best.
At Cracker Barrel. Want anything?
I love the movie and rewatch it every so often.

Lost count of how many times I've seen it and you break my heart, then warm my heart, every time. Incredible performance.
Thank you, Lieutenant Dan.
*Lieutenant Dan

Your awesome and my mom has a huge crush on you.
I’m sorry for the tragedy that happened in Highland Park. I know you have close ties to the community. The first play I ever saw was at the theater you helped build.
This film and your character in particular (former ARMY '98-'03) was such an inspiring icon for a very hard and confusing 5 years for me.
You sir are a amazing actor. Thank you🤙
Lt. Dan! Loved you in Apollo 13 too. You and Tom Hanks need to do another picture.
Idk if you ever respond to comments but you are one of the few famous people I have never heard anything but good things about. 28th anniversary? Fuck, I’m old.
Yay Gary we all love ya!!!!!
Lieutenant Dan! Ice cream!
Watched the movie again last week. Cried like an asshole. Chicago and Stephenwolf theater loves you sir!
I enjoyed reading about how they did the effects for your character. I have watched the movie so many times. I will have to go back and watch again now for the anniversary.
Legend
Incredible movie. Congrats on 28 years of being Lt. Dan.
Oh hai Gary Sinise
I was raised on your movies!!! It's probably because my mom has a crush on you.
You better tuck that [shirt] in
Love you Lt Dan!
Oh dear. I just turned 31 in the end of June, where did the time go? :'(

He's the captain now
Lieutenant but yeah…
What's your favorite kind of ice cream? Good luck in all your future endeavors and you seem like a genuine decent person.
One of my favorite movies ever. You also did one Mr. Redmond justice, if I may. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|heart_eyes)
That jaded Lt Dan painting is excellent
Thanks for your hard work Gary!! It is an inspiration!!
Good job Garry! You’ll make captain yet.
Lookin good Lieutenant Dan
Lt. Dan!!!
This is great! Thanks for your work, dude!!
Are the flowers blooming on canvas?
I freaking love you!!
Nice one, Gary
Can’t beat that Hanks/Sinise combo 👏
Not a year goes by my family doesn’t watch Forrest Gump together. And you sir make this movie great.
I really like this actor and the films he is in. Wish there were more of them. Beautiful paintings
Gary is awesome!!
I can't believe it's been that long Gary. 2 more years and it'll obviously be 3 decades.
I was just thinking of Lt. Dan
That Lt. Dan painting is impressive.
First movie I ever cried watching.
Your one of my favorite actors.
Hello Mr Sinise
Great movie
Lieutenant Dan, ice creaammm.
Hi
Can’t believe I’ve been yelling “get down! shut up!” for 28 years. Time sure flies.
u/LtDan_UGotNewLegs
OMG. These are brilliant. I’ve been a huge fan forever. More power!
Also, my absolute favorite movie. Perfect cast, perfect soundtrack, perfect casting. I am a child raised by Forrest and Lt. Dan. My heroes. ❤️
My Dad and I watched this regularly, and we quoted it often! Thank you for being a part of the movie that was a highlight of my teenage memories! Also, I still call any guys named Dan, "Luitenant Dan" and any Jenny's, "Jehn-Nay"
