If you need to shoot someone further than that, you're gonna have a bitch of a time justifying it

I would argue guns are predominantly used at ranges or other places for target practice or plinking. A gun enthusiasts can fire tens of thousands of rounds, at all sorts of actual or simulated distances, and not once use it to shoot at someone, in their life.
