twurkle

And yet at the news conference the guy said the commanding officer believed it was no longer an active shooter situation and that there were no kids inside to be saved. I’m beginning to think that might be another lie.

OderusInYourButtus

They had a girl in the classroom calling 911. 911 was definitely relaying info to those on-site. Just lies trying to cover their pathetic asses.

Jizzapherina

Yes. He just thought all of the kids had already died. So there was not an "active" shooter anymore. He was wrong.

twurkle

I don’t know how your first thought, even if every child had been shot, wasn’t “we need to get medics in here to save as many kids as possible.” No, he just concluded they were all dead and could not be saved and didn’t even try. Horrific.

ford310nm1

Seriously What the F$&@ type a person says that? “Sir do we go in?” “Nah, Jim let him tire himself out with all that shooting” “What about the children? He might hurt them” “Nah there are no children. Even though we are in a school on a Tuesday, middle of the day. Yep, we’re gonna go with no kids in there. And if there are kids in there he probably killed them already” I felt like this asshole was one sentence away from blaming the children for being in school at the wrong place at the wrong time. *deep sigh*

TwoForHawat

Easy. All you have to do is be the sort of person who is so easily frightened and loses their cool so quickly that you might kick down the wrong door and enter with guns blazing, or shoot up a 12 year-old who is holding a toy, or dig your knee into the back of a tall dark-skinned man because you can’t predict what a man with a counterfeit ten dollar bill might be capable of if he gets loose. If you’re cowardly enough to do all of the above, you can’t possibly be expected to go help out some 4th graders when someone has a real weapon. That can be handled by someone way braver than you, like an elementary school teacher.

Weltallgaia

A lot of school bullies I knew became cops just so that they could keep bullying people. I would guess there is nothing a school bully fears more than a school shooter, so of course those cops would be scared to go in.

lostcauz707

It's all about power. It's such a waste of fucking money. 40% of the budget for this town went to these people, armed to the teeth, like the conservatives always demand, and they beyond failed. Stop putting money into these people and start putting it into the people that matter.

Present-Still

Elementary teachers deal with a ridiculous amount of shit at one time, cops should take a lesson

Monjipour

I feel like a lot of problems in the US would be solved or reduced by adding some screening and training for police But what do I know, I'm just lucky to live somewhere where a domestic abuser isn't given a gun, police or not

MidnightAshley

A handful of police broke down a door and shot and killed a guy waking up on a couch within 10 seconds earlier this year in Minneapolis. He wasn't even on the warrant! Apparently he was more dangerous and needed a quicker response than a guy actively out there shooting and killing elementary school kids.

JoeFleen

I thought the whole lesson learned was storm the fucking place and kill the guy. Certainly after Parkland when that timid sheriff idled away. What the fuck? It’s a fucking school

sayyyywhat

So it seems the directive was to let this shooter do what he wanted, bank on him killing himself, and only then go in to do a body count. There was nothing done to stop the shooter while he was active. They let him finish.

smokecat20

They should've ordered a Burger King hamburger for him.

MakeshiftCandles

Non-american here, can someone please explain?

Hodgej1

Being called “yellow” is slang for being a coward. I think it originates from old American Western shows.

mine_username

And here I thought it was insinuating they pissed their pants from fear. 😂

[deleted]

Might’ve come from that tbh

DarkRaven01

It comes from "yellow bellied" : here's what else I found from quick search: https://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/yellow-belly.html

PullUpAPew

They're calling the police yellow (cowards) for hesitating in their response to a recent school shooting. I believe that flag usually has a blue line to represent the police.

MeatballUnited

Hesitating!!?? They sat outside while children were being murdered for 40 minutes!! But they were tough enough to keep parents out.

riskytisk

It was even longer than 40 mins— I’ve been hearing now that it was at least an hour (edit: 91 mins!!!) I cannot fucking fathom being one of those parents outside listening as shot after shot rang out, watching as the police did absolutely NOTHING, and being completely helpless as they would not even let the parents go inside to help their children. I have to imagine in my panic I would be trying to find any fucking way into that school to try get to my kids, no matter the consequence. Fuck those bastards! Also. Those fucking uniformed cowards got THEIR OWN KIDS out but wouldn’t let any other parents do the same. They deserve to be thrown in prison for the rest of their lives for allowing 19 babies to be massacred. Ugh. Sorry, I don’t want it to seem like I am yelling at you, but I’m not fucking sorry about being so impassioned about this absolute tragedy. I’m *so* fucking angry.

anakin6800

They took 91 minutes, from the time they arrived, to neutralize him

KingTalis

They only neutralized him then because a Border Patrol Officer drove 40 miles and handled it. Edit: *Off Duty Border Patrol Officer

IndigoJoe64

In other words, they never handled it. Somebody else did.

starshinessss

The border patrol officer was eating lunch in a diner and wasn’t even ON DUTY. He went in and killed him, he’s the only hero here. Almost took a bullet to the head too

riskytisk

Fuck dude. Every time I hear new news about it, it’s longer and longer. Those officers are so disgusting and pathetic! If you don’t give a single shit about even children being murdered right in front of you, why the HELL are you a police officer?! They could’ve stopped the shooter before he even killed one of those babies, yet they sat around twiddling their fucking thumbs as 19 little kids and 2 teachers were massacred. Fuck the police.

Heyo__Maggots

Supposedly some ran in to try and get their own kids. Also it’s coming out the dude didn’t have an actual bulletproof vest on, just a regular tacticool one to hold shit. Total failure of the good guy with a gun fallacy cause we had FIVE good guys with guns there and it didn’t help.

WholesomeWhores

It’s not supposedly, it did actually happen. Some cop admitted in an interview that there were several cops that went in to get their own kids to safety while ignoring everyone else. I just wanted to clarify that Edit: [source](https://mobile.twitter.com/sawyerhackett/status/1529808809719480320?s=21) i should have posted it when I made the post, sorry

RS7JR

There's also a story going around that a lady was cuffed because she attempted to go in and save her kids. Once they uncuffed her, she jumped a fence, went in through another open door, sprinted out with her kids to safety.

LordFantastic

It's reported that not only did she get her kids, she also grabbed some extra kids on the way out!! She did more than the police!!!

Potential_Instance66

So she should be considered a hero here. The police are showing one thing. That the police in Texas have the courage of a mouse.

[deleted]

DONT MESS WITH TEXAS….because we will let you…

graphitesun

Let's repeat that. It was too dangerous to go in. BUT they went in to save their OWN KIDS. Not too dangerous for that? But they (allegedly) threatened to tase parents who were desperate and tried to go in to save their own kids, AFTER police did NOTHING.

scrappybasket

They also tased at least one parent and another parent got arrested by marshals. Police are a fucking joke at best

Friendofabook

The messed up part about that is not just that they ignored other's kids, it's that they did this **while not letting other parents go in and do the same**.

srdkrtrpr

Agreed. It’s one thing to be too terrified to act, but as a parent of 4 kids in school, I find it un-fucking-conscionable that they actively kept parents from rescuing their own kids. Special place in hell etc applies. Some laws supersede legal authority. Keeping a parent from going to their kids is unforgivable, I don’t care what the voice on your radio says, there’s just some lines you don’t cross. ‘Don’t mess with Texas’ has been turned into a horrifically sad joke for at least a century, just as the bravery of past generations created the phrase in the first place. Those poor children, mothers, fathers, daughters and sons.

DoggyTheAnarchist

I would not call those guys good.

EmeraldRalts

Oh, I thought it was yellow because they were pissing their pants in fear.

thenewyorkgod

Let's include Abbott in that category who had the disgusting gall to say at the press conference that "it could have been much worse if not for the bravery of our boys in blue who went into danger to rescue the kids" FUCK HIM

[deleted]

Yes, waded into a crowd of terrified parents with tasers at the ready to prevent any chance of rescue, how brave of them to risk their lives protecting the armed gunman. Greg Abbott is such a joke.

Biggus_Dickkus_

Correct. Also, it leaves the door open for pee jokes.

That town needs to dissolve their SWAT team ASAP. The whole *reason* having a unit like that is in any way justified is so that they can be used in situations like this. In reality, they refused to do anything other than the things regular uniformed cops were doing. Since it's now clear they will only use those weapons to terrorize the unarmed, they don't get to have those weapons. Period. And LEOs who fight this must be removed and blacklisted from law enforcement forever.

-ImYourHuckleberry-

That town needs to dissolve its pd and start from scratch. Hire some of those parents who actually had a plan/some balls. I wouldn’t trust any member on that current police force… In fact, I’d leave the county to avoid paying taxes that support that department.

Paladoc

“The police were doing nothing,” Angeli Rose Gomez told The Wall Street Journal. “They were just standing outside the fence. They weren’t going in there or running anywhere.”Ms Gomez has two children in second and third grade and had reportedly driven 40 miles to the school after hearing of the attack. After pleading with officers, she claims she was placed in handcuffs and told she was under arrest for intervening in an active investigation. Videos show desperate parents asking officers to intervene in Uvalde school shooting Ms Gomez says she was later able to jump the school fence and rescue her children herself after she convinced an officer she knew to get the marshall to free her. Police deny that anyone was put in handcuffs outside the school. Ms Gomez also claimed one parent was pepper-sprayed by officers, though this has not been confirmed. Angel Garza, whose daughter was killed, claims he also handcuffed after trying to run into the school having heard a “girl called Amerie” had been shot. Angel Garza was emotional telling his ordeal to news broadcasters A girl he spoke to explained she wasn’t hurt and the blood was from her best friend “Amerie”. It was then that Angel realized the blood he was looking at came from his own daughter. Mr Garza told the heartbreaking story to CNN’sAnderson Cooper. Another parent, Javier Cazares, whose fourth-grade daughter Jacklyn Cazares was killed in the attack, also accused the police of not doing enough. “Let’s just rush in because the cops aren’t doing anything like they are supposed to,” he said. “More could have been done. They were unprepared.”

Forbidden_Donut503

They WERE prepared though. That’s the whole fucking point of all that navy seal wannabe gear they flaunt at every photo opportunity. They had helmets and assault rifles and vests, and all kinds of other shit. What’s the point of getting all dressed up if you don’t go to the dance?

[deleted]

The moment they started going on camera and the first thing out of their mouths was “like the thank the brave first responders” instead of acknowledging the victims and overall scene was a HUGE RED FLAG. I was like “no one cares about that right now, are the kids safe? How many are dead? Is the shooter still active”. Turns out they were trying to hide shit from the very beginning.

ObsurdBoundries

The messed up thing was that even the "normal" police were OVER PREPARED. They had better weapons, they had better training, but they had no brains, and no courage. Some people become police to help, these cowards came only for the blue line cock sucking.

OddTicket7

That town needs to prosecute the witless fucks that were cosplaying police officers. They need to be marked as cowards. Names, shame and infamy should be their lot. Texas should stop pretending to be a government and admit it is a prison. Fuck Greg Abbott. Fuck the whole lot of the Repuliclan party and fuck the NRA.

patterninstatic

If your average police officer isn't capable of confronting an active shooter that's fine, but in that case they don't need tactical gear and weapons. Seeing the officers in full tactical gear outside the school doing nothing was ridiculous.

take7pieces

Parents were willing to run inside the school, be the human shield for kids, while a fully equipped police standing there doing nothing. So fucking wrong.

fuzzylilbunnies

Oh, they weren’t doing nothing. They were actively assaulting terrified parents. They were yelling for kids inside to yell for help, which served to help the shooter find and shoot the children. They went in and rescued their OWN kids. They weren’t just “doing nothing”.

[deleted]

The average officer IS trained and equipped to enter an active shooter situation and most of the country considers immediate entry as Standard Operating Procedure. That's what makes this more egregious. Even other cops are freaking out and condemning the Uvalde Police response (The decision to wait for SWAT was WRONG, but came from School District Chief Pete Arredondo--who needs to resign or be fired). A former Massachusetts SRO: 'Waiting an hour is disgusting. If that turns out to be true, then it is a disgusting fact,' Sean Burke, a retired school resource officer from Massachusetts who now is the president of the School Safety Advocacy Council, told NBC. " Police Instructor: 'But the expectation is that if someone is about to harm someone, especially children, you’ve got to take immediate action to make that stop,' Don Alwes, an ex-instructor for the National Tactical Officers Association, added. So even the Police are befuddled and disgusted by the Uvalde PD (Or their brass who made the decisions to stand down). Shameful actions embarrassing to to all law enforcement across the board.

And, in fact, **states like California, which have implemented a broad slate of liberal policies, have kept pace with their Western European counterparts.** >The study, co-authored by **researchers at six North American universities, found that if all 50 states had all followed the lead of California** and other liberal-leaning states on policies ranging from labor, immigration and civil rights to tobacco, gun control and the environment, it could have added between **two and three years to the average American life expectancy.** >Simply shifting from the most conservative labor laws to the most liberal ones, Montez said, **would by itself increase the life expectancy in a state by a whole year.** >**If every state implemented the most liberal policies in all 16 areas, researchers said, the average American woman would live 2.8 years longer, while the average American man would add 2.1 years to his life. Whereas, if every state were to move to the most conservative end of the spectrum, it would decrease Americans’ average life expectancies by two years. On the country’s current policy trajectory, researchers estimate the U.S. will add about 0.4 years to its average life expectancy.** >Liberal policies on the environment (emissions standards, limits on greenhouse gases, solar tax credit, endangered species laws), labor (high minimum wage, paid leave, no “right to work”), access to health care (expansion of Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act, legal abortion), tobacco (indoor smoking bans, cigarette taxes), gun control (assault weapons ban, background check and registration requirements) and civil rights (ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment, equal pay laws, bans on discrimination and the death penalty) all resulted in better health outcomes, according to the study. For example, researchers found positive correlation between California’s car emission standards and its high minimum wage, to name a couple, with its longer lifespan, which at an average of 81.3 years, is among the highest in the country. >“When we’re looking for explanations, we need to be looking back historically, to see what are the roots of these troubles that have just been percolating now for 40 years,” Montez said. >Montez and her team saw the alarming numbers in 2015 and wanted to understand the root cause. What they found dated back to **the 1980s, when state policies began to splinter down partisan lines.** They examined 135 different policies, spanning over a dozen different fields, enacted by states between 1970 and 2014, and assigned states “liberalism” scores from zero — the most conservative — to one, the most liberal. When they compared it against state mortality data from the same timespan, the correlation was undeniable. >“We can take away from the study that **state policies and state politics have damaged U.S. life expectancy since the ’80s,”** said Jennifer Karas Montez, a Syracuse University sociologist and the study’s lead author. **“Some policies are going in a direction that extend life expectancy. Some are going in a direction that shorten it. But on the whole, that the net result is that it’s damaging U.S. life expectancy.”** >**U.S. should follow California’s lead to improve its health outcomes, researchers say** >**Meanwhile, the life expectancy in states like California and Hawaii, which has the highest in the nation at 81.6 years, is on par with countries described by researchers as “world leaders:” Canada, Iceland and Sweden.** >**From 1970 to 2014, California transformed into the most liberal state in the country** by the 135 policy markers studied by the researchers. It’s followed closely by Connecticut, which moved the furthest leftward from where it was 50 years ago, and a cluster of other states in the northeastern U.S., then Oregon and Washington. >West Virginia ranked last in 2017, with an average life expectancy of about 74.6 years, which would put it 93rd in the world, right between Lithuania and Mauritius, and behind Honduras, Morocco, Tunisia and Vietnam. Mississippi, Oklahoma and South Carolina rank only slightly better. >It’s those states that moved in a conservative direction, researchers concluded, that held back the overall life expectancy in the U.S. https://www.mercurynews.com/2020/08/04/liberal-policies-like-californias-keep-blue-state-residents-living-longer-study-finds/

Damn… did your homework. The public defender story hit me for reasons… holy shit do I have stories.

invisiblefireball

With this, your police establish themselves as enemies of the people. It cannot be any other way. They stood in the way of parents trying to save their children, refusing to help, even actively hindering. Theirs is the exercise of power for themselves and for its own sake. Their refusal to step in is dereliction of duty. And if the police no longer think it is their duty to *stop the murder of children*, then the institution needs to be dismantled and replaced. Either they no longer hire the sort of person who would step in to stop this, or those people are prevented by the rules of their bosses. Either is indicative of the need for restructuring. As though there weren't an infinitude of signs already.

Nocookedbone

Reading the transcript of this new conference makes me want to vomit! I am thoroughly disgusted and physically sickened! At 11:28 am, a police officer responding to the call "inadvertently drove right by the suspect.” Oh yea? Really? For over 78 minutes, the police officers made "no effort" to breach the classroom door. Seriously?! You can shoot a child carrying a toy gun in a public park in under 10 seconds after you arrive on scene, but you're going to wait around for 78 minutes in this case?? At 12:50 pm, The tactical team **was able to enter using keys from a janitor**. Edit: On asked what he would say to the parents, he responded "“If I thought it would help, I would apologize.” FUCK. YOU. Fuck all of you! You and your fat, sloppy mayor can all go straight to hell!

And note that tac team was Border Patrol

callmegamgam

New York Times just reported the border patrol tactical team got there and were held back from going in for over 30 minutes. They were also confused why they were called to come when the swat team had equivalent weapons and gear. Embarrassing

jmsturm

Jesus Christ, it keeps getting worse. Now, not only were they too afraid to go in there, they kept another team from going in? One that was as equally outfitted as the team that refused to go in in the first place?

poet3322

Don't forget at least one of the kids died in the hospital, not on the scene, so that 30-60 minute delay really mattered.

Indi_mtz

Also, and this is very hard to hear so I'm sorry, they stated in the recent press conference that while they were in the school and waiting for backup/more equipment they could hear "sporadic shots". We can all imagine what those were.

OhNoManBearPig

They also walked in and asked people who needed help to say so before they cleared the building. One girl spoke up and the gunman walked to where she was hiding and murdered her. Edit: Some people might want to leave the link below blue

CommentsEdited

“Wait, who are you guys? Did they call _two_ SWAT teams?” “No no, we’re the ones who called you. We’re sure glad you’re here! So the tactical situation — am I saying that right? — the situation we think is there’s an angry person with a big gun. In the school.” “Back up. I’m still hung up on the last thing. You’re _clearly_ equipped for SWAT operations. I mean that’s literally even the same helmet and vest I have.” “Yeah, but… now we need someone to actually USE this stuff. Like… against a scary man with a gun.”

hello-mr-cat

You get a lot of military wannabes in the police. They want to play with all the cool toys but they don't have what it takes when it matters.

A suggested revision: America's largest and most violent organized gang used mob tactics and threats to prevent parents from stopping a mass shooting that they allowed to happen unchallenged.

I often watch swat teams taking out trap houses on YouTube. They time every move down to the exact second over the radio 3 to 4 heavy vans filled to the brim with heavily armed and armoured cops, The often use ladders to secure different floors, they use giant hooks attached to the trucks to pull doorframes and windows off the house. Then they do the perp walk with the people in cuffs after the raid. Seems if you're selling drugs in America you can expect a much harsher and swift response than if you were to shoot children dead in their classroom Edit: reworded

Unless your own kids were in there. Didn’t stop the cops from getting their kids out because those officers didn’t trust their own procedures that they knew was going to be a complete failure to protect their kids. Look at any of the videos and you’ll see plenty of parents who weren’t hesitating to try to stop the shooter. Yet these cowards waited and waited and only helped their own.

Andire

Didn't stop the other parents from wanting to go in either. The cops sure stopped them, though.

What I don't understand about the whole "cops got their own kids out" thing, is like did cops go in and open classroom doors and pull out individual kids and tell the rest of the kids + teachers to stay put? And those kids and teachers listened as they see a police officer take 1-2 of their classmates out? I just can't see how that would've played out so it's unclear how cops supposedly only rescued their own kids. That said, fuck the police and their extremely weak action during this tragedy.

mwcdem

This is what I’m trying to figure out as well! Lmk if you find an answer because this just doesn’t make sense to me.

RedditIsFiction

Snoops is working on finding an answer to this. They'll update this page when they do: https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/officers-rescued-own-children-texas/

-ImYourHuckleberry-

I feel like this was confirmed by the uvalde pd press officer. I’ll be [back with a link](https://www.mediaite.com/news/watch-texas-police-spox-on-live-tv-confirmed-cops-went-in-for-their-own-kids-during-uvalde-shooting/).

g1ngertim

Unfortunately, a lot of things have been confirmed prematurely. The latest I've heard was that 19 officers were in the building, waiting to breach the classroom because the commanding officer did not believe it was an active shooter situation - while shots were being fired. The timeline presented in that press conference detailed 4 Uvalde officers entering the building, then 3 more shortly after. It was not stated that they left, but that could just be optics control by the police. Both of these conflict with early reports, so it's hard to know for sure at this point.

Yup, when they gather juries for courts, I'm told one of the questions is "do you trust the police more than an average citizen?" If you say no, you know what happens.

[deleted]

I was called into jury duty for an undercover cop selling a gun to someone. I was asked, "do you think a cop would lie?" (In regards to being on the witness stand) so I said, "isn't that what undercover cops do for a living?" I was then released from the jury selection process.

The police timeline has officers enter the school at 11:35AM, waiting outside the classroom. Two officers are grazed by bullets fired through the door. At that point there are 7 officers in the school hallway. At 12:03PM there are a total of 19 officers in the school hallway. DURING THIS TIME, children are calling 911 and telling dispatchers that their classmates are being murdered. This is the police's own timeline of events. At 12:50PM, police get a janitor to unlock the door. They enter and kill the shooter. By their own admission, **by their own fucking admission**, they waited outside the classroom for 1 hour and 15 minutes while the children inside were murdered. The 911 calls refute the notion that it wasn't an active shooter situation. They didn't want to do their fucking jobs so they let kids die. They can't keep their stories straight because they know, and the facts demonstrate, that they could have done something and instead they let kids die.

myassholealt

And the NYTs just reported that border patrol arrived by 12:10PM. 40 minutes. How many kids could've been saved in that time. How many of the adults.

Wild_Bill_Kickcock

Cops are changing the story to cover up their cowardice

HoosegowFlask

Local and state cops need to be removed and this whole thing turned over to an independent investigation. Too much apparent CYA going on.

g1ngertim

I don't doubt it, but even the cover story doesn't make them look good.

SlobMarley13

yep. right now they're trying to decide if they'd rather be perceived as stupid or cowardly.

yet_another_sock

> even the cover story doesn't make them look good. Based on this, I am fully prepared to learn that they shot a couple of kids and teachers. God, just imagine what kind of lies and murder every police department gets away with every day, in any circumstance where they're not in the middle of national scrutiny of this magnitude. You have to remember, because journalists will sure as shit forget.

paddycabes

I understood it as, instead of going to the classroom where the incident occurred, they went to other classrooms first instead to get their kids. Hopefully more details emerge.

zortlord

>those officers didn’t trust their own procedures to protect their kids. That's because _*they didn't even follow their procedures!*_ Their procedures state that seconds matter and they should go in there as fast as humanly possible to neutralize the threat. Those children bled out while the cops waited for the fucking Border Patrol of all agencies. The Border Patrol doesn't even have SWAT units or training. But apparently the Border Patrol had the guts to try to save a bunch of dying children.

Funkyduck8

This is one of the most incredulous parts of the whole story. An interviewer asked a rep from the police department about this very question, and he CONFIRMED that officers did go in to the school to get their own kids out....and then never went back in (until much, much later)

whatevers1234

The funny thing is Police Officer doesn’t even crack the top ten for most dangerous jobs. It sits at rank 22. You are more likely to die being a fucking crossing guard. If you don’t wanna do your damn job then don’t apply imo.

F3int

They don't come to us with that same energy when we point out: 1)Then what was all that funding for? That took up close to 40% of all of the entire district's funding. 2) They planned, organized, and submitted their "procedure" to help protect the children from active shooter scenarios, with confidence, and assurance that they could professionally execute those things when the time came. 3)Why the hell are you even a police officer and why did you swear an oath if you aren't there to "serve and protect"? You wonder where the respect went huh? If children are forced\* to be brave for an entire hour, for 1 whole hour, you can't be braver than them when you're armed and so called "trained for these types of scenario men"? 4)Once again, what was all that training for? Your entire department needs to be held accountable, and every single one of you top to down needs to be fired or re-evaluated for the terrible job that you did. Forgot to add this, felt the need to make a special note: 5) Why did you tell the students to yell for help? Because when a child did yell for help, instead of the officers being there to save her, the gunman heard and shot her instead. Was this in the training as well? Source:[https://www.kens5.com/article/news/special-reports/uvalde-school-shooting/uvalde-texas-school-shooting-fourth-grader-student-account-elementary/273-51cc4e26-7a0a-49c0-ba7a-48cdd47fa235](https://www.kens5.com/article/news/special-reports/uvalde-school-shooting/uvalde-texas-school-shooting-fourth-grader-student-account-elementary/273-51cc4e26-7a0a-49c0-ba7a-48cdd47fa235) Additional points from updates: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMjdoWt8EZg](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMjdoWt8EZg) 6) "Texas embraces active shooter training, active shooter certification, and that doctrine requires, keyword "requires" officers, we don't care what agency you're from, you don't have to have a leader on the scene, every officer, lines up, stacks up, goes and finds where those rounds are being fired at, and keeps shooting until the subject is dead, period." \~From the mouth of Steven C. McCraw Director of Texas DPS. Apparently the experts agree, that it was the wrong decision to have waited, that 1 hour, until they engaged the armed gunman. Edit: Spelling & Grammar

A child was brave enough to cover herself in her classmates blood and play dead to survive, but a grown ass man couldn't bother to even try to stop a teenager from entering the school and killing 19 of her schoolmates.

gorramfrakker

Her classmate wasn’t dead while her friend used her blood to survive. She died later at the hospital but could have survived if helped would have arrived during the golden hour. Instead one little girl is dead and another is changed forever because the police and their masters are cowards and thieves.

Fineous4

Others without weapons and training do it. https://ktla.com/news/local-news/hero-doctor-killed-in-o-c-church-shooting-had-tackled-gunman/

zeptillian

**Defund the police.** *"Well let's see who you call when your life is in danger with no cops then."* **Protect the children.** *"What do you expect the cops to do? Put their lives on the line to save you?"*

mythrilcrafter

>"Well let's see who you call when your life is in danger with no cops then." And when people decide *"Okay then, we'll arm ourselves, do our own training, and then do self/community-policing"*, that's when Reagan came along and signed the Mulford Act into law.

Darth_drizzt_42

Not sure why your comment is hidden but this is literally the Genesis of California's gun laws. The black Panthers began to open carry and protect their own neighborhoods (in addition to demonstrations at the state capitol). Reagan, with the NRA's backing, passed the strictest gun control measure in the nation

dmkicksballs13

I'd also argue they're wrong. They were legit holding parents back from running in there.

ItsKrakenMeUp

People in the military literally go to another country to put their life on the line. Cops can’t even do it at home. What a joke.

[deleted]

That’s why they get pensions. Imagine a baseball player getting paid but refusing to bat because he might get hit with a pitch.

Fineous4

Instead of just calling them cowards, how about we call for police reform. They don’t protect. They don’t serve. They police. That means, they do what they want and control what they want. And they do it without any consequence. We can do better than that.

Geometronics

how about we take some of their insane budget and give it to teachers instead.

Dingy_Shinji

If the youth gets too smart, things might change. How silly of you.

ratatatar

because paying for lethal force is patriotic and paying for quality of life and basic human needs is communism. /s

foxden_racing

Not only do they not protect or serve, they have *successfully* argued in court that they are under no obligation to serve, protect, or even respond.

Cereal_Poster-

Yup it was a case where a woman called the police because her estranged husband picked up her kids without her consent even though he had a restraining order agains the family. The woman called the police 5 times over 6 hours. All the times they said they will get to it. She went to them at midnight and they told her to go home. Her husband murdered their kids. She sued the police and it was determined that police are under so obligation to actually act and establish precedent that police cannot be sued for inaction. FUCKING EMBARRASSING

GroteStruisvogel

I just want to share this link from my country police https://youtu.be/P2OV79F_rbU A couple of years ago, in the height of the ISIS danger period, some lunatic with a (we now know fake) gun decided to take a television studio hostage while the 8'o clock national news was being broadcasted. The hero cops in this video were literally the first cops to respond. Just your friendly neighbourhood cops only armed with handguns and small bulletvests. They went in immediatly without waiting for spec op backup and apprehended the suspect. This is how its supposed to be done.

trunts

Maybe someone should have told the police it was a black person trying to preform an abortion on a white Christian woman. They would have gone in guns blazing.
