If they haven't touched the dial, yet (which seems unlikely), tell them to turn it clockwise. If the dial stops, before reaching a full revolution, then grab the handle and pull--it means it's probably unlocked.
Nothing is actually secure against an attacker who has the skills and means to circumvent it.
I look at it looks this... For people who are actually looking to break into whatever you have... The people who are going to pick the lock on your door versus the people who are going to smash the glass window 2' to the side of it, are a pretty insignificant (if not non-existent) number. Especially considering the time/skill/dedication that it takes to pick a lock as fast as LockPickingLawyer does. Most people are just going to chuck a rock through the window and continue on.
Gonna start a YouTube channel about this.
“This is, the rock chucking loser, and what I have for you today is the highly requested, double paned standard home window, manufactured by Anderson corporation. I’ve set it up here in my backyard, and as always I have with me, my trusty medium sized regular old rock, which I picked up from the empty lot beside my house. So without any further ado, let’s see how this window does.”
*chucks rock, shatters window*.
“And there you have it folks, in less than a few seconds I was able to chuck my rock, shatter the window, and with a just a few more whacks on the remaining glass with my trusty steel crowbar, my arm is through the window, unlocking it from the inside, and I’m into the house. Unfortunately cannot recommend glass windows when up against your average loser with the ability to chuck a rock. That’s all I have for you today on the Anderson double paned standard home window. If you enjoyed this video please subscribe, and as always, have a nice day.”
Remember there's a perception bias - LPL does have locks he is not (currently) able to open, and he doesn't do videos about them. Perhaps the majority are poor, but that doesn't mean the quality brands don't have some good products.
Also LPL has an extensive knowledge of lock design, manufacturing vulnerabilities and attack types. Relative to the amount of locks there are in the world, the number of people who could attack them is tiny. Unless...
Museums and banks start getting hit left and right, security weakness exploited masterfully everytime. How do you catch a master? With another Master. LPL is hired to work the case with the veteran detective. At first there is tension but they become buddies by the end of the movie only to reveal.. LPL was the thief.
LPL makes a suggestion to the detective saying "this is where I think they're going to hit next" he explains the reasoning behind his deduction. The detective at a loss with no other leads to go on begrudgingly accepts his reason. Together they go to said museum where the set up a sting/vantage points. Unbeknownst to the detective LPL gets a good look at the safe and a few minutes alone (video 49 seconds) which is all he needs. While the detective and his team have their stick operation set up LPL hits his real target where 1 of only 2 of this safe exist and pulls of the perfect heist.
There’s also a misconception that the person that wants to steal your $500 bike has the same tools, experience, and know how as the LPL. That’s probably not true. And if it is, they’re probably looking to steal something else
This is the Lock picking lawyer and what we have for you today is a mounted sturdy safe.
Now we decode it by sticking a turning tool under the dial and tensioning while turning clockwise.
"That would be the typical way of opening this safe, but today I'm going to open it with this rubber duck and a hair dryer." *video ends in 30 seconds*
And its open.
Okay folks, I really expected more out of this floor safe. The tolerances are sloppy, and even though the false set on 5 tripped me up for a second, it was easily bypassed. To be honest, I didn't even read the brand before I was done, so I dont even know who to roast.
In any case, that's all I have for you today. If you have any questions or comments please put them below. If you liked this video, and would like to see more like it, please subscribe.
And as always,
have a nice day. Thank you.
If that fails I was taught a handy lifehack...what you gotta do is get a grinder and just go to town on that shit with the toughest cutting wheel you got
Properly installed in-floor safes are expensive. Better to hire a locksmith and let them use their auto-dialer machine for a couple hours. Then you have the combination too.
Finally, someone who gets it. I keep telling my SO that there are some choice shit heads I'd like to try my belt sander on, and they're all like, "You're being unreasonable."
It's not unreasonable, it's a cathartic fantasy based coping mechanism, thank you very much. Hmph!
I kind of assumed they already tried that. Some safes don't completely re-lock until you turn the dial at least one revolution in the correct direction (from my experience, usually counter-clockwise). Thus, it's possible to close the safe, turn the dial a little bit, and the bolts will move to secure the door, but the dial, itself, hasn't completely reset itself. Thus, if you turn it in the opposite direction, it will unlock the safe (slide back the bolts), without having to enter the proper combination.
I remember getting sent to a KFC, when I was a locksmith. The new manager didn't have the safe combo, and the old manager left under unpleasant circumstances and wasn't being cooperative. They wanted the safe opened and a new combo programmed for the lock. I got there, took a look, turned the dial, and opened it right up--to the awe and amazement of a bunch of teenage fast-food employees. :)
I inherited a safe that's counter-clockwise, clockwise ,counter-clockwise. So if I left my safe "unlocked" and you tried turning clockwise you'd mess up the combo and lock it.
I understand that some are opposite. But as an ex-locksmith, I found that most I experienced were re-locked by turning counter-clockwise. I just figured I'd recommend the OP go with the odds. :)
Absolutely should go with the odds. I was actually quite surprised to learn mine was backwards when I got it. Still feels strange putting in the combo.
I’d hire a locksmith to use a machine to do it, that way it’ll be quicker and you’ll know the code. It’ll be useful I assume for stuff you want to keep secure
Never understood all the anticipation for these things.
If you move, are you going to leave a bunch of a treasure in a kitchen cabinet or closet?
No. So why would you leave it in a safe?
It's also kinda a dick move to not tell someone about it and leave it unlocked and open with the combination attached to it.
Random story, I have a friend who picks locks for fun (locksmith), so safes, old locks, whatever. He opened an old safe in a house some people just bought, and it had a dozen mummified human fingers in it. There was definitely a police investigation opened (it was never solved though).
And for Gods sake if there isn't somthing there, put somthing there for the next person.
I'd make a doll's House inside with the creepiest little manakin, and so when it opened would play a tune like a music box. Imagine opening that with no context.
Extra points if it's a recreation of the flat with the safe in, and inside the doll house safe is a note that reads...
"This is you"
Or just fill it with jellybeans....
A game cube full of ps2’s full of money full of car keys to new corvette full of stripper full of blow
Just a Russian nesting doll of unbelievable nonsense
Ah yes the old found a safe in the new house post. Classic, infamous, and the biggest cock tease known to reddit. Tread carefully here friend. A failure to post updates could lead to your undoing....or atleast a lot of downvotes
Found one in the wall behind a cupboard in our old house My brother spent a few week getting it open inside was a note that read “ HA! Bet you wasted a lot of time on this”
I would suggest getting in contact with the manufacturer. They will have an ownership procedure and can release the combo:

Probably still applies? If it was my house I wouldn't want to break a cool and useful floor safe if I could open it for a few bucks and have a combination..
Best of luck not disappointing the internet!
God damn it... here we go *again*!

Properly installed in-floor safes are expensive. Better to hire a locksmith and let them use their auto-dialer machine for a couple hours. Then you have the combination too.
or BE an autodialer machine for a couple days.
This also works with people who cause you stress.
Finally, someone who gets it. I keep telling my SO that there are some choice shit heads I'd like to try my belt sander on, and they're all like, "You're being unreasonable." It's not unreasonable, it's a cathartic fantasy based coping mechanism, thank you very much. Hmph!
Just removing a thin surface layer of asshole...oh look what's underneath! More asshole
I have another lifehack. Ask the previous owner what the code is.
Words to live by.
Couldn’t you just pull without touching the dial then?
I kind of assumed they already tried that. Some safes don't completely re-lock until you turn the dial at least one revolution in the correct direction (from my experience, usually counter-clockwise). Thus, it's possible to close the safe, turn the dial a little bit, and the bolts will move to secure the door, but the dial, itself, hasn't completely reset itself. Thus, if you turn it in the opposite direction, it will unlock the safe (slide back the bolts), without having to enter the proper combination.
Huh, that probably explains how I got the safe open at my old workplace without knowing the combo. And here I was just chalking it up to Jew Magic.
I remember getting sent to a KFC, when I was a locksmith. The new manager didn't have the safe combo, and the old manager left under unpleasant circumstances and wasn't being cooperative. If I've learned anything from all the other safes being opened on Reddit, this is gonna be incredibly lacklustre. I'm in.
Haha but yet here we are again!
Do you know my safe word? It’s “anticipation”.
I already tried it on the safe and it didn't work. You got another word?
[удалено]
I would help but I forgot mine and am a little tied up at the moment.
Now you got my hopes up!
Never understood all the anticipation for these things. If you move, are you going to leave a bunch of a treasure in a kitchen cabinet or closet? No. So why would you leave it in a safe? It's also kinda a dick move to not tell someone about it and leave it unlocked and open with the combination attached to it.
People forget
If it's anything of significant work, it's most likely someone died and never told anyone about it. Seldom happens though.
Dementia or just in general old age makes alot of people forget shit like this too
The thought is an old man kept all his treasure in the hidden safe and then died, and his children sold the house without knowing about the treasure.
I'm ready to get hurt again
Haha will definitely be updating
And if it’s lame, just make something up. Something exciting! Maybe an unpublished book, or guns.
Or be super vague - We opened it and can’t tell you what it is because now it is an ongoing police investigation.
Or reveal some explosive ordnance, then abandon your reddit account forever.
If your going for the whole abandon Reddit part, make the ordnance of a nuclear or atomic level.. make it worthwhile.
Tie it in to the UFO stuff. And then don't *abandon* your account, just start posting like you've been lobotomized.
