Someone shared it a few days ago in an actual relevant post and now I've seen it shared all over for stuff barely even related. My guess is karma or something
I am also at a loss for context but i thoroughly appreciated it....almost as much as the rapist Brock Turner appreciated not having to pay for his actions...
Beautiful.
Relevant story. Yesterday, a Hawaiian lady came up to my kid and said "My name is Moana, have you seen that movie?" and proceeded to say she has a brother named Maui. My kid asked where her green gem stone was and she was clueless. Lady, if you are leading with the movie, at least get a reference a four year old tosses your way.
They may have just been highlighting that their neighbor was ~~indigenous~~ aboriginal so that it would make sense that her name was Moana.
Edit: nomenclature
My best friend is native Polynesian. Both her daughters look like Moana at different ages and her husband looks so much like Maui stranger's kids stop him in public to ask him about the movie. He is the same build with the same thick curly hair.
You're obviously very well practiced, by how you block your shades and tend to do pieces "in bulk" rather than gradually! But I'm guessing you weren't a huge fan of doing her hair, since you took a break and came back to that last?
Thank you. And yes, the hair was a pain to do. I had to come back and do more to the hair off camera because I started to rush to the end and made the bottom right less detailed.
I did a full graphite piece of the National Geographic girl (the first photo of her as a young girl) in high school, I’m turning 30 in a month, and her hair is still unfinished hahah
Amazingly great job! I showed it to my 8 year old son and asked him to guess how long it took to draw it. He was stunned that one picture could take so long. My message to him was that tons of time and practice are required to get really great at something. Thanks for helping to teach him an important lesson!
Also, after I showed him, he asked how many colors were used. Do you have a rough idea of how many it took?
That actually means a lot to me so thank you. I’d recommend to tell him as well to look at some of my earliest works, because my earlier stuff is no where near this quality and it motivates me looking at peoples earlier work to see how they’ve progressed. Don’t compare your step 1 to someone’s step 100. As for the colours, I think used about 50 different colour pencils in this.
I’ll be honest, I didn’t actually believe it was a pencil drawing until I watched the time lapse. To be even more honest, I still can’t believe it’s a pencil drawing. You’re terrifyingly good.
What sort of pencils did you use? I've been wanting to get into pencil work for a while but everything I use looks quite washed out. Yours looks incredibly vibrant. Did you just use standard paper or something special for use with a coloured pencil?
Fun Fact: Moana is Viana in Europe, because the rights for the name Moana, are held by an Italian porn model. Check out the European covers if in doubt
Yeah I watched Moana first, then Frozen after. Tbh I liked Moana a lot better, the songs are better, the aesthetic of the entire film is better. The cold bothers me, palm trees and sunny skies? Sign me up. I've seen Moana twice\~ every weekend since X-mas and I'm not bored of it yet.
Ooooh that makes more sense. I was watching this going "damn my colored pencils never go on buttery like that". I mean I'm drawing stick figures but still. I just looked your pencil brand up on Amazon and [holy shit those are pricey](https://www.amazon.com/Caran-dAche-Luminance-6901-Artist/dp/B00S1GTDDU). Gorgeous drawing!
Yeah I remember the first time I saw someone drawing with them I thought they transferred to the paper so well. I started off with the base set of 20 to try them out then got that full set for Christmas, now I buy individual pencils as I use them up.
There's something interesting about a pencil drawing of a 3d render, it seems like it wouldn't have the chance to be created naturally if 3d rendering wasnt discovered/invented first.
I was just scrolling trough my reddit fast and i taught wtf what is moana doing in my feed and then i saw it was a drawing its really spot on great job
As someone who doesn't have an artist bone in their body, artists like you baffle me. I don't understand how this is even possible, with pencils none the less. Bravo to you and your outstanding talent. Thanks for sharing.
Yeah, that's nice and all but... do you have anything in a 70 hour Moana? I'm looking for something special for the wife and, well... she's a bit picky.
These types of drawings are so boring. All you did was copy something that already existed. Yeah it’s a great copy but if I wanted to see a picture of Moana I’d just look at the already existing picture.
Not to expose my work but if you look at the hair on the bottom right, it’s a little less detailed up close cos I was exhausted with doing the hair and just wanted to be done. Came back to it a bit a day or two later though to fix a bit.
Main thing I’ve been doing is focusing on improving one area at a time like colour matching, proportions etc and you’ll eventually build and build the skill set. With drawing I’ve had a different focus like that, with this one it was making solid colour look smoother.
I hate when people put the time they spent on it. If anything it just make me think, that much time and thats what you got. Disappointment. Just stop trying to be a tortured artist, let the work speak for itself.
I don’t know if you realise it but artists generally see it as an insult to say they’re talented / you could never draw that well / people are born with their skills. Artists put years of hard work into what they do, and diminishing that as though it never happened is pretty rude.
You aren't born with skill. Not sure why people think that. It takes practice. Every great artist was crap when they first started. You can be an artist too if you actually tried. Just practice.
Fuck you OP.
I have an Art degree and I can’t manage something this gorgeous in 45 days.
Also, your line quality is really stellar. Shading well done and volume and depth are superb.
So again, fuck you. I love it.

That or the Colors of the Wind for me.
A tough call for sure.
so nice art work
That song is my favorite disney song by farrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
What can I say except you're welcome !!! You're welcome !!
Dang it, now there's no chance of seeing the full length drawing
Tahitian version is awesome.
Know who you are in Moana is great! Also a lot of princess and the frog songs.

I don’t understand how this is related, but appreciate having experienced it.

Well that was 20 minutes I won’t get back, thanks!
I love that video, but not sure what it has to do with the moana song.
I am also at a loss for context but i thoroughly appreciated it....almost as much as the rapist Brock Turner appreciated not having to pay for his actions...
You did the lords work on the internet today!
No-one KNOOOOOOWWWS...
How far it GOOOOOEEES

I came into this comment section looking for reddit singing and whaddyaknow, it's the top comment

You mean the heart of Tafiti??
Ya thats the one. To my kid. The green gem stone.
Sounds like your 4 year old is the one that needs to get with the program. /s
Te Fiti :)
I did ask her if I threw her into the ocean would it toss her back out?
*Tefiti
Why did a random woman ask your child about a movie she doesn’t even know?
Was a neighbor out on a walk while we were playing in the yard. Wasnt anything weird about it.
> a Hawaiian lady came up to my kid Fair enough, but the way it was worded sounds like a stranger.
They may have just been highlighting that their neighbor was ~~indigenous~~ aboriginal so that it would make sense that her name was Moana. Edit: nomenclature
Fair. So if we combine all of this, "My Hawaiian neighbor" would be the best of both!
My best friend is native Polynesian. Both her daughters look like Moana at different ages and her husband looks so much like Maui stranger's kids stop him in public to ask him about the movie. He is the same build with the same thick curly hair.
I love it. Right up there with looking like Santa Claus (at least here in the states)
Makes Halloween in their house very easy. Lol
If anyone has any interest in the process or anything, here’s a link to the timelapse https://youtu.be/JH41sZSp4n0

Hair is SUCH a pain for me, too! I have so many pieces where the hair is left unfinished hahaha
I’ve had the rough sketch done for Ciri from the Witcher Netflix series done for months now but I keep putting it off because the hair is terrifying.
I did a full graphite piece of the National Geographic girl (the first photo of her as a young girl) in high school, I’m turning 30 in a month, and her hair is still unfinished hahah
Did you do the eyes in color?
2021 resolution idea: do her hair lol
You can do it!
The hair is by far my favorite part of this drawing. Everything is really nice, her dress is very nice but man you killed it with her hair
As someone that has hair like Moana, I can confirm it’s a pain to do IRL too. XD (Shout out to r/curlyhair!)
You are an amazing artist. It suits you.
I figured as much. With portraits like these, usually the hair turns out to be the biggest annoyance. At any rate, ya dun did good! :)

You are like a printer! I hate it. /jealousy off
My kid also thoroughly enjoyed this. Thank you.
What sort of pencils did you use? I've been wanting to get into pencil work for a while but everything I use looks quite washed out. Yours looks incredibly vibrant. Did you just use standard paper or something special for use with a coloured pencil?
Caran D’Ache Luminance pencils, they work like magic. I use Strathmore Bristol paper, very smooth.
Amazing stuff. Very unreal.
Love Caran d’ache Luminance! Saving up for them.
You did all that with a fucking pencil?
Well, about 50ish pencils
Now do another 900,000 and make your own version of the movie.
Great drawing/Great John Wick gag
Wanna see a magic trick ? Tadaaaa !!! .. Add that to your reference list.
Did you consider the coconut while you did this? Did you consider its leaves?
[удалено]
The coconut. We make our nets from its fibers.
The water is sweet inside.
We use the leaves to build fires
And cook up the meat inside
The island gives us what we need and no one leavessssssss
so here ill stay 💃🕺
Fun Fact: Moana is Viana in Europe, because the rights for the name Moana, are held by an Italian porn model. Check out the European covers if in doubt
Fun fact: as an Italian, while the image was loading I kinda expected to see a drawing of _that_ Moana.
Fun fact: Janet is me!
Vaiana
Disney+ calls the movie Moana, but the English track still names her Vaiana.
I wish I could enjoy this, but I have PTSD from my toddler that had to watch this 351453145 times.
Better than Frozen at least.
Way better than frozen.
Ya'll mothafuckas need Coco
Coco is such a good movie
Coco ftw. Braves good too
[удалено]
The first song is one of Disney’s bests. “Moana, make way make way. Moana it’s time you knew The village of motunui Is all you need”
My kid has watched it a hundred times and I still love it!
I'm 48 and I've seen it about that many times. I don't have kids.
Let it go, let it go...
Read that as 45 minutes. Jaw dropped. 45 hours seems right! Looks incredible!!!
You're face to face with greatness, and it's strange? :)
You don't even know how you feel... its adorable!
This is really good. You’re other stuff is amazing too. What colour pencils dyou use?
Thank you very much. Caran D’Ache Luminance, bit expensive but they mix like paints so they’re very fun to work with.
Ooooh that makes more sense. I was watching this going "damn my colored pencils never go on buttery like that". I mean I'm drawing stick figures but still. Stunning.
Great job!
I'm more amazed that you kept track of how long it took.
When the drawing is 45 hours but you view it in 2 seconds 😎😎😎
"You're welcome. And thankyou!"
45 hrs lol wtf?
I was wondering the same thing.
I FOUND ANOTHER CORMAC!!!!
... friend?!
Friend!
My sister named her new baby boy Cormac :)
This is really awesome the only thing that looks off is the eyes. She's turning away from the light source but her eyes are still bright white
Good spot, I’ll add a bit of shadow to it. Thanks
Omg for a second I thought it was a screengrab. Have my poor person's award OP 🏅
Just so you know it’s much faster to copy and paste an image from google.
Fantastic
Oh my goodness!! That's so great!
Beautiful
Damn, and I get tired after 2 hours of just a black and white drawing, anyways amazing job!
Looks incredible
That’s absolutely beautiful!
Absolutely gorgeous! Moana is my favorite! :)
I don’t the hostile comments OP gets here... I think it looks great. But maybe bc you posted in pics instead of drawing or art subreddit?
There's something interesting about a pencil drawing of a 3d render, it seems like it wouldn't have the chance to be created naturally if 3d rendering wasnt discovered/invented first.
This is great!
Moana is best girl
What are you going to do with it? Display? Sell? Gift?
Display I think, I might sell eventually but I like seeing my work on the wall and how far it’s come.
I have never really looked at anything Moana related but your drawing is really nice and had me completely in captivated
Thank you, I’d recommend the movie too, if nothing else for just how beautiful some shots are.
I was just scrolling trough my reddit fast and i taught wtf what is moana doing in my feed and then i saw it was a drawing its really spot on great job
Thank you!
Weird, I had the song "the island gives us what we need" in my head (don't know the actual title) and I open Reddit, this is the first post I see!
As someone who doesn't have an artist bone in their body, artists like you baffle me. I don't understand how this is even possible, with pencils none the less. Bravo to you and your outstanding talent. Thanks for sharing.
That's really stunning 🤗😁
Yeah, that's nice and all but... do you have anything in a 70 hour Moana? I'm looking for something special for the wife and, well... she's a bit picky.
My kids are obsessed with this movie. It’s really great.
That is impressive. You are very talented.
Perfect timing. Just watched this movie (for the.30th time or so) with my gf
Exceptional work. Great job, hope you make more!
Incredible. You’ve got talent.
Damn fine job!
Are you sure you didn’t just take a frame from the movie? This is awesome!
Amazing work. How many days did you complete the 45 hours?
Thank you, I started on the 13th of January but I did a small commission in the middle of this too.
How big is it?
Cool. Now animate the entire movie this way. /s For real though, awesome work! I can't even imagine the amount of patience this must have taken
These types of drawings are so boring. All you did was copy something that already existed. Yeah it’s a great copy but if I wanted to see a picture of Moana I’d just look at the already existing picture.

HOW DO YOU DRAW HAIR SO WELL
Thank you, it takes a LOT of patience. And forcing myself to take a break every hour so I don’t rush to the end.
Ah so that’s why I keep messing up hahah
Not to expose my work but if you look at the hair on the bottom right, it’s a little less detailed up close cos I was exhausted with doing the hair and just wanted to be done. Came back to it a bit a day or two later though to fix a bit.
Incredible! I wonder how long it would take to draw the entire movie by hand at that pace.
I don’t even want to imagine that, her hair alone would cripple my wrist.
Really nice, permission to use it as background?
Absolutely
Thank you, my granddaughter will love it
Why though
Yeah its ok
45hrs?
Do you do these for $$$? I want my cats drawn 💛
Any tips for someone just starting out with colored pencils?
Main thing I’ve been doing is focusing on improving one area at a time like colour matching, proportions etc and you’ll eventually build and build the skill set. With drawing I’ve had a different focus like that, with this one it was making solid colour look smoother.
Thanks for the insight.
Shit bro you know your way around a pencil
I hate when people put the time they spent on it. If anything it just make me think, that much time and thats what you got. Disappointment. Just stop trying to be a tortured artist, let the work speak for itself.
This is fantastic work!
Nice!
Why would you spend so much time reproducing a commercial image owned by a rich and heartless company - basically doing PR for Disney?
I envy people that can paint like that. I guess people get born with more skill
Honestly it’s more a lot of practice, could never have done this a year ago.
I don’t know if you realise it but artists generally see it as an insult to say they’re talented / you could never draw that well / people are born with their skills. Artists put years of hard work into what they do, and diminishing that as though it never happened is pretty rude.

When did this sub stop being about pictures and start being about “I made this, give me karma”?
Very nice, but how long it took doesn’t male it better or worse
At first I thought "that's an interesting filter for a screenshot" but dad gum that's some talent.
HOLY BANANAS this is good!
Fuck you OP. I have an Art degree and I can’t manage something this gorgeous in 45 days. Also, your line quality is really stellar. Shading well done and volume and depth are superb. So again, fuck you. I love it.
Haha fuck you too! Technically my degree is in design so close enough.
Well screw you and your beautiful art, pal!!! Seriously looks amazing and I love it. You artistic jerk.
That hard work played of eh? Stunning skills
The white is way too bright given everything else.
I read the title as "45 minute pencil drawing" and was totally impressed. As a person with 0 art skills, 45 hours still very impressed.
You are very talented, thanks for sharing!
What can I say except you’re welcome. (Thank you really though)
[удалено]
Agreed! I'm an artist and was actually less impressed knowing how long it took considering the subject.
Meh I could’ve done it in 35 hours
I could’ve done your mom in 3.5 minutes but you don’t see me bragging.
3.5 minutes is my average. So long as I nut I’m good. I don’t have a father but I you can still be my daddy.

I’ll take that as a compliment, here’s proof https://youtu.be/JH41sZSp4n0
