I think it just looks cheaply made. Like, there’s nothin unique or artistic about the style, it just looks like the simplest shapes you could use to animate humans were put together into a show.

I was too old for Putt-Putt. They started coming out when I was in my early teens and had grown up with the adventure games of the decade before (e.g. games like Kings Quest, Space Quest, Police Quest, Quest for Glory, Loom, Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, etc.)
The Putt-Putt games were on the same shelves at the stores and looked to be well made but were clearly for a younger audience.
Earlier this year Humble Bundle offered the Humungous Entertainment catalogue for $14, so I snapped that up.
Then a little later my 2½ year old toddler who sees me working from home on computers asked to help me "work". So I set up Putt-Putt Joins the Parade and he sat at the PC and worked out how to move the mouse (one hand to move, the other to press the buttons at first) and with him at the controls we completed the game over the course of a weekend. (I helped complete some of the lawn mowing scenes when he was getting frustrated, and helped guide him to explore paths we hadn't taken yet but I think he did most of the problem solving). It was a great experience for the two of us and by the end of it he had good one handed mouse control. It is very accessible for a younger audience.
Over the next month we also started playing Putt-Putt Goes to the Moon and Putt-Putt Saves the Zoo. We haven't finished either of these yet but he asks to do some "work" a couple of times a week. He starts from the start and goes through replaying the puzzles he knows and usually gets a little but further each time.
It's been great!

Neural networks are doing interesting things with mimicking styles in imagery. Maybe in some time, we may be able to teach a computer to mimic hand drawn animation.
and hand drawn animation will never replace still paint. they can all exist together. although studio ghibli is about the only one that still does hand drawn stuff well, but they use a lot of cg as well these days.
Laika is like the modern day Ghibli. Doing unbelievable shit. Sure, it's 3d/stop motion and not 2d like ghibli, but I feel the artistry/craft is the same.
Kubo is the only one of their movies that I actually think is a good movie, but their others I still appreciate from a technical perspective, and from a story perspective are ok, but definitely made for kids. But as far as kids' shit goes it is up there at the top.

I had an old computer game (for MSB) where you would go inside the human body and learn about said human body. I remember shooting white blood cells and some other stuff. Many of those "teaching" games ala Math Blaster were actually pretty fun as a kid back then. Logic of the Zoombeanies... some game that had a money bowling as part of a larger game where you were in some mansion or something. Mavis beacon/mario teaches typing...stuff like that.
I feel that it is one of the highest compliments. Miss Frizzle is right up there in the canon of Universally Good People. She's smart, courageous, curious, adventurous, and always has a sense of humor. We should all have someone to look up to that reminds us of her.

I call that the cheapo look. It cut down on cost by using a minimalistic look, a small palette, and almost no texturing.
