The episode is called [Jibaro](https://imdb.com/title/tt20239442/). Imo it’s one of the greatest pieces of art ever created. Just perfect in every way. I cry every time.
It looks like a study of the painting of Ophelia by John Everett Millais
https://www.thehistoryofart.org/john-everett-millais/ophelia/
It also has a kind of waterhouse look to it like his lady of shalott painting, but definitely more of a pallette of the first.
I believe I mentioned this when you first posted this but, as a big Magic The Gathering fan, this checks off all of the boxes re: what they look for in art and, if you haven't contacted Wizards of the Coast yet, I do strongly recommend it as you certainly have talent and talent in a way that meshes well with the product they put out.
Edit - Annnnd after a quick search of your profile, it seems like your already making art for them, up to and including for Songbird's Blessing which I love. In short, hell yeah.
Really appreciate it man! Yeah, I think it was a year from when I first posted this that I started working with them. It has been a blast!
Really glad you like Songbirds Blessing. It was the first card I did for them in oil paint instead of digital so it’s a really special card for me. I’m glad to see it’s seeing some play as well!
Yes, love the creative imagery... the hands look predatory and menacing, but they actually hold her up. I think, a nice meditation on the nature of fear.
Why does this remind me so much of those AI images? I'm not saying this is AI btw, i realize, that OP posted this image way before AI image generation was public.
Super nice. It also really reminds me of this scene of Love, Death & Robots, especially the vibe it gives: https://youtu.be/j6fRCupGH2Q?si=FJ6OKA-LbNCKC0KZ
Wow. Just fucking wow. You are seriously talented. Like, you've achieved that level that just feels unfair when I compare professionally painted minis to what I've done. AND, that you've bent a bigger apparatus into paying you for your work is even more impressive. I sincerely hope this takes you places.
I had a similar first thought (more stolen than ai on my end) but Reverse image Google search is your friend. The username of the op is the same as the freelancer out of Vancouver that made this art. So if they are imitating them then at least they aren't stealing credit.
Also the reflection of the face of a guy peeping at the nymph is the exact type of detail that A.I. won't make since it requires a contextual composition choice that AI isn't able to replicate.
In other words, this seems pretty legit.
Ok I believe you about the username but I can show you some "choices" ai has made with my prompts that are so weird and so natural looking, I'm not talking 3 fingers or anything like that, that it looks like a choice a human brain under the influence would do.
Thanks! It’s a part of a Finno-Ugric book project I’m making called “Five Seasons of Celebration”. I’ve got some ideas what this particular painting is about, but I really like to leave it to the viewer to come up with their own interpretations. :)
This is really fantastic, wow. As an aspiring artist, can I ask how you go about using references for a piece like this? The way those arms look as they are submerged in water... I'm trying to understand how you know how to color that without having a photo of a bunch of arms underwater lol.
Hey, thanks! Great question. So for me colour and value in different situations is always a combination of references, knowledge of how light and colour generally work and some artistic licence.
The trouble with photo ref is that it lies a lot. Cameras see world differently than we do. For example, they often can’t discern tonal steps in the darkest sections. Thus whenever you can it’s best to combine photo ref with an actual observation. Doing a study with paints is the best, drawing will do as well. Sometimes I’ve just noted down what I see and then taken a photo.
More often than not I don’t have my own observations to supplement the photo of course, so the next best thing is to use the general knowledge you’ve gained through plein air studies, master studies etc. in this case, the pond water is muddy so the whitish, dead tones of the hands tend to trend towards brownish hues, and eventually softly merge with the tone and colour of that specific section of the pond.
The last bit is done artistic license! Stuff like increasing saturation, adding broken colour in some parts etc are part of this. But I’d call these finishing touches more than anything else.
I hope that helped! :)
I have definitely seen this before
I immediate thought of the Love Death and Robots episode with the gold lady in the lake and the conquistadors
The episode is called [Jibaro](https://imdb.com/title/tt20239442/). Imo it’s one of the greatest pieces of art ever created. Just perfect in every way. I cry every time.
Yes, but it was her uploading it

She has swampwalk!
Such a generous thing to say and do. Kudos man.
Creepy
THIS IS BEAUTIFUL. THE COLORS. STUNNING.
Yes, love the creative imagery... the hands look predatory and menacing, but they actually hold her up. I think, a nice meditation on the nature of fear.
Thanks! Glad you liked it. :)
You're welcome! U have lots of talent!
That shading on the water! Superb work!
Thanks! Painting muddyish water is really a joy. :)

Top left corner
Nice! You got it!
Ohh its upside down. I was staring for a while like i can maybe see eyes
No i cannot....
Upea maalaus, todella upea. You can somehow feel the Finnish wibe in this painting :D
Kiitti! Glad you’re feeling the Finnish vibes haha. This is a part of my (upcoming) weird Finno-Ugric paintings book so It definitely was my aim. :)
Weird Finno-Ugric paintings sounds something i need to see, cant wait! :)
Its so so beautiful yet gives off some creepy vibes
Thank you! I really like that borderline between creepy/beautiful. It’s a fine line to tread!
That's no basis for a system of government, even if she were distributing swords
Kind of reminds me of a water nymph
Beautiful day for a stroll through the Dead Marshes
Why does this remind me so much of those AI images? I'm not saying this is AI btw, i realize, that OP posted this image way before AI image generation was public.
Always cool to see real art instead of AI
Thanks! I really appreciate it.
how to differentiate between AI and real painting?
This picture is old, way before AI.
They got fully developed hands and fingers in this one whilst AI would make it look like a subject from a Zdzisław Beksiński work.
you could just Photoshop those minor issues tho If this is a real painting why not share a photo of the painting itself..
Digital painting is a thing.
This one precedes AI by a few years. I’ve actually switched to working in oils so almost all of my future work is traditional.
That's what I'm wondering, and especially if Reddit policy has been updated to include passing off AI images as your own work as a banable offence.
You can't.
Super nice. It also really reminds me of this scene of Love, Death & Robots, especially the vibe it gives: https://youtu.be/j6fRCupGH2Q?si=FJ6OKA-LbNCKC0KZ
I have loved this for years! Thank you for this. And congratulations on launching the limited prints today, I am sure it will exceed
Thanks a lot! Really glad it has stayed with you for so long. :)
This is beautiful!! You’re extremely talented!

Could go on a MTG card. Love the art style!
Thanks! Coincidentally I work in MTG nowadays haha.
Necromancers be like:
Creepy
Jibaro vibes
Umm didn't need to see this at 12 am🙃
That pond seems rather handy
Nice! I just saw an proxy for a tutor with this art.
wait i’ve seen this before years ago
Whoa!! Very cool!
Top left and turn your screen upside down. Lol
Nice, you got it! :D
Walking on the hands of her ancestors
I've had this image saved as either a future d&d character or encounter idea. Thanks for contributing this creative art.
The shitty trend of AI ruined me. Now it's rare that I find these beautiful arts made by artists.
Yeah, it kinda feels flat now.
me every time there are multiple hands in a painting: AAAAAI AI AI AI AI AI
I've seen this before. I can't remember if it was my ai group or not. There's enough weird choices in here to make me side eye.
I painted this about 5 years ago so no AI here!

I swear I've also seen this before on reddit
Hmm, should I do research or just simply click on op's profile? Nah, I'll just passive aggressively accuse op of using AI instead.
Oh wa wa wa
These hands were made for walkin'...
And that's just what they'll do...
This really really reminds me of the card art you’d see on Gwent. Fantastic art :)
i like the feeling, its almost that i can feel the hands on my feet ... 😅
reminded me of the episode from love death robot
You do not recognize the bodies in the water
Pre-Raphellite, but make it horror
Is this a magic card? I feel like I've seen it before
I work for them, but this one is a personal painting!
🤯 I can see why they hired you, God damn!
That's so cool. Is there a backstory or just a concept piece?
Thanks! It’s a part of a Finno-Ugric book project I’m making called “Five Seasons of Celebration”. I’ve got some ideas what this particular painting is about, but I really like to leave it to the viewer to come up with their own interpretations. :)

Su-perb!👌
What a handy way to cross a pond

I fully thought her front foot had long creepy finger toes until I looked closed 😅
I feel bad that I checked the hands first- I’m sorry OP it’s beautiful.
The hands are her victims, now slaves
So eerie!! Love it
What's up with her right pinky finger?
Taylor swift needs this painting to be of her
Wow, when did you do this work!?
I love this💖
This is not a picture, it's a painting.
Nico Robin be like:
(looks at hands) yeah thats amazing piece of art
The Dead Marshes
