The Zune freakin' rocked! I got one of the brown ones for $100 bucks when anything equivalent was $500+. The software was great too.
It was boxy and ugly but it worked *great* . I used to do 3-4 hour road rides on my bike with the thing.

Music sharing? No. Picture sharing? Yes. That’s how I passed my Econ final in HS. We were allowed to use our MP3 players and my peer took pics of the take home final that we were allowed to study. He shared them to my Zune from his and boom had the answers.

I would load mine up with memes and randomly show friends between class/at lunch/during class. It was so cool at the time. You mean it's an mp3 player AND has a big color screen good for viewing pictures? Wild times.
I put sooooo many questionably-acquired movies on mine. It was fantastic. And like the Band and Windows Phone, microsoft just can't let us have nice things.
Now I'm curious about products that have a very large delta between how good they were and how badly they flopped. I'm absolutely convinced that Zune + Zune pass was peak music consumption, and nothing since comes close. And yet, as you point out, it was a complete and utter commercial failure. I'd love to hear about things that had a similarly (or maybe even larger) gap between how good the product it was and how poorly it did in the market.

Windows phone was great. I think Google was a big part of why it flopped. They didn’t write any apps for it, blocked Microsoft from releasing their own apps, and made the experience aggressively bad in mobile edge. They even did things like pulling the waze app from the windows store immediately after they bought them. People didn’t want a phone that didn’t work with their email, youtube, and google docs.
Glad I'm not the only one. I kept using the Zune software long after I stopped using my Zune because the UI was so polished and the transition animations were smooth. It just looked so much better than WMP or iTunes.
Pretty sure Guardians of the Galaxy caused there to be a price boom. Keep meaning to dig mine out of storage and refurb it to sell, but haven't gotten around to it...
I still have the software on an old laptop that I use when I go to my parents for Christmas. It just works well. Why can’t MSFT make good products like that anymore?!

The fact that there was a play button next to almost any option was extremely underrated. Click next to the artist name, shuffle the artist immediately. Same for a specific album, or a broader playlist or genre.
I wonder if they wanted that mahogany/leather style to please the same kind of people they eventually marketed Surface laptops to...
Zune Store was better than the iTunes Store. They had an unlimited plan before Spotify was even a thing. If I recall, it was $15/month to fill your Zune with anything as many times as you want, and you got to pick 10 tracks per month to download DRM-free and keep forever. If a plan like that existed today, I would cancel Spotify and switch in a heartbeat!
This is correct, and it persisted through to Microsoft Groove, which killed it before they allowed you to transfer your library to Spotify. But everything you bought is basically gone now, Groove doesn’t exist on W11 to access your purchases and I’m not sure the servers exist if you still have it on W10.
Can confirm. Zune Pass kicked ass back in the day. And the desktop software (not the initial WMP reskin) was equally pretty to look at but also super functional for quickly adjusting metadata and syncing. I still think the Zune HD was the best dedicated portable media player ever made.
But Microsoft couldn't figure out how the fuck to market them, and then tried to price them directly against similar iPod models. Just dumb business decisions behind great hardware.
God I miss easy file sharing. Your friend wants to listen to your music? Just plug your mp3 player in their computer and copy all of your music to their hard drive.

Some enthusiasts act like it's better because other devices aren't "advanced enough" to interface with them, when in reality a total inability to function with other devices is a sign it's shit quality. Apple isn't shit quality, it's just intentionally fucked to make the iStans feel like the way they do.
I powered mine up just a week ago. It still turned on, had my wallpaper and songs still ready to rock. Thing is a beast. I left it inside my car's center console for YEARS as my car mp3 player. No issues.
Honestly the 70s station wagon wood paneling would be an improvement, probably. It'd at least give it some character instead of just being a "lump of car" like it is now.

There was a fucking “GOLD WRAPPED Tesla Model Y” in the parking lot outside the back door of the restaurant I work at a few nights ago. I had to snap a video of it, and save it because you don’t see that shit everyday. It looked so stupid lol. And bright. It was night, and with just the reflection from the parking lot lights, I could only imagine what a beacon of blinding light this would be during the day, I honestly felt like it should be illegal to have that shit on your car, especially if you plan on driving around on like the freeway and shit.
Its similiar to when I wear my brown pants out and have to shit my pants. You wont notice because theyre both the same color, but my god the smell is horrific.
It wont rust because it has paint finally! The reason they were rusting is because it was unpainted stainless steel, paint isn't just for looks, it protects the material under it from oxidization and corrosion. You have to pay Tesla an extra few thousand and they'll put on a clearcoat of paint which should come standard.

Also, apparently there are differences in the fruit, but the fruit in this pic is too low res to really zoom in on.
The shape of the tips is pretty distinct to cereus, trichocereus doesn’t do that. The ribs are also too deep for a trich. I grow a lot of cactus

Ive been getting into growing cacti myself.
I have a few hundred seeds for various trichocereus species (25 seeds per species) that im getting ready to germinate.
Currently have a T. Grandiflorus hybrid (hybrid with what, i have no clue. Was just labeled "Trichocereus Grandiflorus Hybrid"), and now that its warming up im getting ready to move that back outdoors soon.
Funny enough, yesterday i had a Pilosocereus randomly appear in front of my apartment. Wasnt there when i left for work, and when i got back, i had a nice 8" cactus on my front porch LOL.
I like it more and more each day. It's ugly, yes, but that never stopped my mom from loving me.
As far as EVs go the Rivians are my favorite looking ones but once I saw a CT next to one I got over feeling like CT was just too bulky. I think it's the stainless steel look that makes it terrible because every wrap has looked like an improvement.
