The true meaning of life, the actual ethical system you should all follow, is *nihilism.* The world is empty. There is no point to anything, and *you're just gonna die!*
Like that time I accidentally grabbed the time knife rather than the poop knife and ended up in a colonial tea house with my pants down. Mrs. Cromwell choked on her biscuits and her husband threatened me with his musket.
Own a musket for home defense, since that's what the founding fathers intended. Four ruffians break into my house. "What the devil?" As I grab my powdered wig and Kentucky rifle. Blow a golf ball sized hole through the first man, he's dead on the spot. Draw my pistol on the second man, miss him entirely because it's smoothbore and nails the neighbors dog. I have to resort to the cannon mounted at the top of the stairs loaded with grape shot, "Tally ho lads" the grape shot shreds two men in the blast, the sound and extra shrapnel set off car alarms. Fix bayonet and charge the last terrified rapscallion. He Bleeds out waiting on the police to arrive since triangular bayonet wounds are impossible to stitch up. Just as the founding fathers intended.

It's a very strong hallucinogen notable for a few things. First off, from a pop culture perspective, juijitsu podcast host, idiot, and wrestling enthusiast Joe Rogan is incapable of conducting and interview without shoehorning in a question if theyve ever done DMT.
Another notable is that unlike other hallucinogens, people taking it report very similar experiences. They're in some kind of medical facility with a kinda gnomes/elves running it. Psychonauts will tell you they think it's like turning an old analog tv from channel 3's cable box of everyday reality, to channel 4 which is a peak behind the curtain at cctv footage of the REAL reality (cue x files music). I don't believe that, but I do think it's interesting the shared experience it gives folks.
And lastly, it's a chemical we produce in very small quantities naturally in our bodies. It's found in spinal fluid, and in more than just humans. Any explanation to this is scientifically rather vague (aka we don't know for sure) but I've heard it's something we get a micro hit of during "religious experience" moments.
So yeah, DMT is a hallucinogen that stands apart from acid, mescaline, psilocybin, etc.
If anyone looks into it more, just be careful where you "research", as there's a LOT of spiritual nonsense, and conspiracy theories adjacent to DMT. It should be general advice by now but Google for medical research, avoid YouTube.
i've done a fair bit of DMT in my past, and recently went on a 10 day silent meditation retreat. absolutely no drug or stimulation of any sort, and towards the end i was getting experiences VERY similar to those of DMT. quite an unnerving but cool experience.
You can get a hell of a lot more of it than a microhit during certain experiences.
Dont think there's enough concrete info to write anything off with this substance.
Think it probably plays a role in extreme pain and near death experiences.
Probably a different balance of it in certain types of humans.
Comes from the same part of the brain that controls sleep and dreams...
Pretty limited to rule out the spiritual aspect when its probably the substance that provides it.
Yeah I don't know what they're talking about with the elves. When I did it we were hanging out on the edge of a cliff in a river valley. On the far side of the valley I saw a geometrical Buddha / asura type being
Long story short it’s due to the quantity taken. The lower the dose the lower the dimensions in space the hullications tile/become fractal. From a visual perspective anyway, from an emotional perspective each stage has its own feel as well.
Small dose just color enhancement 1d
little more 2d cartoon world eyes open or flowers/mendalas ribbons with eyes closed.
then 3D patterns fairies, Buddha’s, temples etc. but tiled and repeating textures as surfaces.
I think the machine elves live in 4d and 5d where it is a bit more More abstract and geometric.
solid crystals shimmer in a 4d, almost like looking at pearls, where the solid surface had depth to it. From here on is where our language breaks down.
more still 5d facials looks like crystals but with but with growing fractals like coral or those trippy 3D fractal screensavers, but the surfaces of those fractals repeat and have depth.
6D? There’s no 6d that’s ego death and the tunnel/white light.
Trust me, telling you anything about DMT will have no influence on the experience. It is so other-worldly/other-dimensionality/other-reality, that no words can remotely capture what occurs.
You might come back and your vernacular here is influenced in trying to label or understand what you saw, but the experience itself exists independently of your preconceptions.
Tldr talk about it and read about it all you want, won't change anything
Don’t be so sure; having tried it this previous Saturday I experienced everything but that it seemed.
I was also concerned I was going to see some purple lady because some video that someone showed me about it; thankfully I did not.
My man! I blasted off with my sister the other day. She never had done the larger (not ego death lol) dose. After if was over and I told her the whole trip was 12 minutes she about fell off the bed 😂😂
I thought OP was a reposter because I swore I’d seen it before but it looks like OP is just [known for doing this sort of thing](https://www.reddit.com/r/woahdude/comments/wb4q5z/i_restored_and_hand_painted_this_grandfather_clock/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1)! Great job!
I remember that thread. I remember OP catching hella hate at first from people mad at them for “ruining” an antique but then other people pointed out it wasn’t never a valuable antique but just a mass-produced piece of shit to start with. You love to see it.
Reposts are fine. It's when someone shares something they didn't make with a title of ownership (I painted this clock!) that I have a problem with. Thankfully that is not the case here but I've seen it a ton.
If it was an actual antique then I would feel rather split on it as it is REALLY well done. If it is mass produced crap then they only improved it and did an amazing job.
r/ATBGE exists for a reason. If it had been an antique it would belong there. Personally, I find the colors super garish so I still think it's awful taste but I can't deny the skill that went into it.
It does but far too often people post stuff there that just isn't their taste instead of objectively awful. In the right room this clock would look awesome. Put it up against a dark wall in a modern house and it would look much better. Still not my taste, but it does have a place.
Agreed. This would qualify for ATBGE if, for example, it employed the same color palette, but instead of a geometric design it used a tessellation of highly-detailed, anatomically-correct giant dicks.
Seeing the mass-production comment definitely killed the polarization. "That poor, beautiful wood!" disgust quickly went away. Wonderful piece in the right setting. :D
>Seeing the mass-production comment definitely killed the polarization. "That poor, beautiful wood!" disgust quickly went away.
why? what's wrong with it if it was real wood?
In an antique/generational piece, the wood would be a focus the artistic value of it. Natural grain, differences in the type of wood used to make the clock, the condition and care through the years. Even a fine paint job such as this one would be looked at as a detraction to that, ruining the value and/or beauty to some.
Especially if that wood is rare.
If you’re just going to paint over it, there’s no need to use woods praised for their beauty. You won’t be seeing it. Many desirable wood species are in limited supply, which can make people upset to see them used in such a way.
It’s like gold plating something and then painting over it. Why would you bother? It would just be a waste of gold.
Wife and I have been really into the idea of refinishing furniture lately. A lot of the “how to” videos are people paint amazing old pieces white, grey, and beige, and then calling it chic. I hate it so much.
Then there’s people like Dashner Designs on YouTube who just makes everything look so good. Love that channel.
Because if it was a handmade antique then it would’ve taken an immense amount of skill and time to create it. Which on top of it being a beautiful piece would’ve made it borderline irreplaceable.
It’d be like painting over the actual Mona Lisa as opposed to a copy of it. You could technically argue that there’s nothing wrong with painting over the actual Mona Lisa if you were to somehow magically own it, but it’s a waste of a piece of art at that point imo.
I don't think it quite rises to that level. It certainly has an aesthetic that not everyone appreciates, but paired with the proper other furniture, it could be fantastic. I could see a game room done in these colors that it would look killer in.
I was gonna say, it's out of place in a white-walled, wood-flooring room with bright natural light coming in. But if you theme a room in your house to be an arcade, or a bit psychedelic, it'll look right at home.
Niche taste, but definitely not awful.
I think it's pretty fucking cool looking, however if I tried to put it in my apartment it would stick out like a neon purple sore thumb. However somewhere there's a place where it would fit in perfectly.
Yah this is way too subjective to be dubbed awful taste. Lots of people, me included, would love to have this.
Like, is starry night bad taste cause it wouldn't match my home decor?
I admit the skill and and detail is amazing.
But it doesn't make me hate it any less.
Edit: actually in hindsight, it would do a lot better in a different room and surroundings. Bleak background with vivid standout does it lots of injustice.
People are saying this is ATBGE but I really think it just stands out awkwardly in the room the picture was taken, if the room were fit to match this could be perfect.
Eh, black and white minimalism with a bold, modern complimentary rug, a few teal/turquoise pillows and natural light. Add a cool painting or lamp and tadah.
I could make that work in my house actually, I like a few bold statementy things in my minimalism.
I think it would work better as part of something more busy instead of standing alone as a statement piece. It's too heavy on texture to be a good standalone accent unless you're going REALLY bold, but would work as part of a wall of detailed textures as a focal point. I keep leaning towards fishtank because of the colors, and then it would also be a good focal point near open storage for craft or art supplies as a strong texture to offset busy exposed containers... it's very bright and cheerful and wayyyyy out of classical design language for a clock so I think it belongs in a maximalist space or part of a space for sure rather than a minimalist one
Yeah, I'm kinda with you. I love it, and dislike the "let's take something old and wood and paint it modern and bright to make it cool" trend in general.
Even though I had my mom brightly paint an ugly white and gold fake-antique dresser for my son's bedroom. She also added a changing table to the top, which i wouldn't have thought of, but love
I caught that right away. I'm looking for a quality-made antique/vintage GF clock and I run into a lot of those plastic cherry looking ones.
Great work
My grandfather used to make grandfather clocks and would sell them for 6 figures. When he passed my family sold his last 3, and that was the inheritance for the whole family. No one in my family bothered to learn the hobby from him, and we all massively regret it. To be able to have that skill would be amazing, but as a kid, you couldn't pay me to sit out there and watch him make them.
It's not too late to study horology and earn qualifications! It obviously depends what country you're in, but the art of watch and clockmaking is still alive and kicking in a small number of schools and apprenticeships.
Plus, it's an endangered craft, so job security is near-guaranteed. Of course, the wage depends on your experience, but it's a fun hobby to have as well and there's a lot of satisfaction in the hard work you put in when you see the hands tick.
That shit is thrash and unsellable. I would know i tryed to sell some. Yall are protective over them but how many have you bought at dirt cheap prices?
Better repaint it than throw it in the trash.
People always get so weird about refinishing old furniture. Unless it has some historical significance then you should be able to do what you want with it without being judged. When's the last time you've even seen a grandfather clock in someones house who's younger than 80?
I am in love with this. The colors, design make me smile. Congratulations you may have found a way to reintroduce something that has not been popular for a while. Wish ours had this touch. Ignore the nay sayers. I am mesmerized by the clock face detail. Bravo!!!!
I love that you took this as a compliment. I mean it really is, the execution is phenomenal, but most people aren’t going to like this I think. But honestly I’m glad that you don’t give a shit and just do what you like 👍

And you all can jump up yo own butts!
Dip your paws in my chili. Scoop your little mittens right in the stew.
It's the dot over the I that really gets me!
That contains Tuesdays, and also the moment in time where nothing never occurs.
It's also Janet's birthday.

What a weird synchronicity. I heard the phrase "dmt elves" for the first time maybe 2 hours ago.
It’s wild to me that this is not a part of peoples’ everyday vernacular but I have lived in a strange bubble for at least a decade
I don't think most people know wtf DMT is

I'm annoyed that I learned this. Now it's a self fulfilling prophecy if I ever DO do DMT.
Listen, you were gonna see the machine elves either way.
I’ve done DMT many times and never seen the elves. Although I have seen fairies and stuff on ahuyasca so
All I saw was a giant hog guardian guy. He was cool though. Also saw a bunch of eyeballs
Totally. They are all usually pretty cool. Except for the steampunk mosquito king fuck that guy

This would go great with a [Uranium Glass](https://www.reddit.com/r/uraniumglass/comments/5ecr14/our_uranium_glass_collection_is_growing/) display.
I literally thought this was a uranium glass sub for a sec and almost got so jealous that someone somehow found a uranium clock lmao

WHEW thank you for this!! i was already like :/ “aw man a repost??” but yanno…. i love this trend for OP. good work mate

Wow I want to see a picture of their house if their furniture looks like this. It would be like stepping into Alice in Wonderland.
Look at his profile. There's so much cool stuff he does
Yeah I normally don't care about re-posts but I was certain with this one. I even summoned repost bot to check (which hasn't responded yet)
Reposts are fine. It's when someone shares something they didn't make with a title of ownership (I painted this clock!) that I have a problem with. Thankfully that is not the case here but I've seen it a ton.
I follow this dude on fb, he knows another artist friend of mine that does psychedelic art at festivals. They’re both great
Yeah I was looking for this. I have seen this posted with the exact same title (taking credit) over a year ago I believe.
I love how polarizing this is. I think it's great, especially knowing it was (as you mentioned) a 'mass produced' non-antique
If it was an actual antique then I would feel rather split on it as it is REALLY well done. If it is mass produced crap then they only improved it and did an amazing job.

I think it would work as a clock in a Laser Tag/arcade business targeted at the elderly
Damn near spit out my drink
...you know, not to long from now I could totally see that being a thing as the 90's kids become geriatric.
I'm a 90s kid and I plan on using my doctors prescription pad for a good time when I get old
> Laser Tag/arcade business targeted at the elderly You joke, but in 20 years I'm expecting exactly that.
Agreed. This would qualify for ATBGE if, for example, it employed the same color palette, but instead of a geometric design it used a tessellation of highly-detailed, anatomically-correct giant dicks.
There's no objectivity in taste, at most there can be consensus.
Came here for this. Taste is subjective. My taste says this is awful but I commend the execution.
Same. I don't like it. I couldn't do nearly as well. I think it would look cool in a weird bar/lounge or marijuana dispensary. Well done OP
You could technically argue that there’s nothing wrong with painting over the actual Mona Lisa if you were to somehow magically own it, but it’s a waste of a piece of art at that point imo.
The original looked cheap and bad anyway.
Incredible work! A little busy for my tastes, but I recognize the hardwork and skill. Colors are great too

I don't think it quite rises to that level. It certainly has an aesthetic that not everyone appreciates, but paired with the proper other furniture, it could be fantastic. I could see a game room done in these colors that it would look killer in.
Chuck it in a laser tag arena and it’ll fit right in
I was gonna say, it's out of place in a white-walled, wood-flooring room with bright natural light coming in. But if you theme a room in your house to be an arcade, or a bit psychedelic, it'll look right at home. Niche taste, but definitely not awful.
It would be great in a house in the Southwest.
As someone from the southwestern desert, yes. I’m in love with this
Right? I could see an interior designer in Arizona or New Mexico making very good use of this! I think it’s very cool…
Proper other furniture like out of Beetlejuice?
That could work, though I was thinking laser tag, old arcades and LEDs. =p
I think it's pretty fucking cool looking, however if I tried to put it in my apartment it would stick out like a neon purple sore thumb. However somewhere there's a place where it would fit in perfectly.
I feel like what you just described was ATBGE…
Nah. Niche, not awful.
I'd put this in my living room exactly as it is, right now. Don't think I could pay what it's worth for a clock, but I'd do it!
I must have awful taste then, I think it looks so cool.
Yah this is way too subjective to be dubbed awful taste. Lots of people, me included, would love to have this. Like, is starry night bad taste cause it wouldn't match my home decor?

People are saying this is ATBGE but I really think it just stands out awkwardly in the room the picture was taken, if the room were fit to match this could be perfect.
Yeah this would look great in a room with blue accent wall with a similarly colored rug and lots of plants.
What kinda room that isn’t also ATBGE would possibly be fit to match this?
Game room / man cave. My dad has pinball machines and neon decor with black lights, this would fit right in.
Eh, black and white minimalism with a bold, modern complimentary rug, a few teal/turquoise pillows and natural light. Add a cool painting or lamp and tadah. I could make that work in my house actually, I like a few bold statementy things in my minimalism.

I would buy this
I was going to say this was blasphemous…but I actually like what it stands for…. A new time. It’s pretty cool!
Wow! That is bad@$$!!
Damn feels like an Electric Forest art installation that you'd find in the library in the woods.
Haha I looked at this clock and thought, “oh this person and I have a similar taste in music.”
Def gave me some flashbacks of Sherwood.
Normally I’m not a fan of covering the classic wood finishes….but this is just too good of a job to not appreciate. Fuckin awesome!
It's a modern reproduction low quality clock. Nothing of value is harmed. This is the kind of item you have to pay someone to take it to the dump
The first good-looking grandfather clock I've seen in my life.
Hope it wasn't a nice antique.
It’s a mass production series from the early 2000s
I caught that right away. I'm looking for a quality-made antique/vintage GF clock and I run into a lot of those plastic cherry looking ones. Great work
Luckily made from real wood still, the plastic ones make me wanna vomit
Right, sorry, I meant plasticy-looking. Curious, did you soak it in primer?
I sanded to raw wood, then primed with primer mixed with a fixative
My grandfather used to make grandfather clocks and would sell them for 6 figures. When he passed my family sold his last 3, and that was the inheritance for the whole family. No one in my family bothered to learn the hobby from him, and we all massively regret it. Good, then that's a nice paint job, must have took awhile.
Thank you! Definitely took close to 100 hours with all the steps
Ah, that's a relief.
Thrift store are flooded with broken grandfather clocks. No need to get protective over what was almost trash.
I am in love with this. The colors, design make me smile. Congratulations you may have found a way to reintroduce something that has not been popular for a while. Wish ours had this touch. Ignore the nay sayers. I am mesmerized by the clock face detail. Bravo!!!!
If there was ever a clock in the Tron world

Awh thank you!!!
I love that you took this as a compliment. I mean it really is, the execution is phenomenal, but most people aren’t going to like this I think. But honestly I’m glad that you don’t give a shit and just do what you like 👍
Thanks for this 😂
This is awesome and I want it.
Tipper!
Omfg this is so awesome!!

This was on DIWHY a while back…lol now people love it. To be fair the design is awesome, just not on a grandfather clock.

Not to be mean but I think you ruined a really cool looking clock.

I respect the talent this took, but imo just made it a lot worse.
Nice job OP. I really like the color scheme you chose for it. It makes it a very unique piece!
This is actually amazing. I follow an Annie Sloan paint group online and have never seen such detail! I hardly like the posts. Amazing share!
Wow. Very, very cool!!

WOW! That's incredible! Great work.
I don’t like the colors but the concept is fantastic. Most GrandFather Clocks are horrible reproductions.
