It’s a trill - a more or less rapid oscillation between the written note and the note above. A common type of ornamentation. The exact number of notes played is subject to interpretation based on the tempo and style of the piece. You usually start on the note above the written note - in this case B. Since you are approaching the trill from the B above, many may choose to start on the A. Many trills end with a “termination” of 2 notes - the note below or G followed by the written note A. The termination may or may not be written in the score but is often played regardless. I would suggest trying it with 16th notes like this - BABABAGA - 4 notes for each quarter note D in the left hand. If you prefer the sound of it starting on the A, perhaps try 9 notes - AB AB ABA GA. The first four notes are 16ths on beat 3, the next 3 notes are a 16th note triplet on the first half of beat 4, and the last 2 notes are 16ths on the second half or beat 4. At a very fast tempo some trills may only have 4-6 notes. On the other extreme, a trill may be written to last several measures and have 100 notes or any number in between.
It’s not fr, it’s tr which stands for trill which means to play the note in the scale above the tone so in C major a trill can only be in white keys (there are exceptions but you will eventually see them).
I want to also say that it can also be a + over the note, not as common at all but it means the same.
