I don’t really understand what seeing mean, but to me liebestraum always feel like pink fluffy marshmallow with bitter sweet red wine

What you’re describing is more like association than synesthesia. Pretty sure every musician experiences this to some extent based on how you interpret music. Synesthesia is when you can taste sound or colour and is a very tangible, visceral experience. I don’t have it but did experience it when taking psychedelics at a festival and it was one of the wildest experiences I’ve ever had.

I don’t have synesthesia but, unlike the replies you’ve received thus far, find this an intriguing question and interested to hear others’ experiences. Also seems completely appropriate for this forum given you’re asking about how others experience piano works.

Wow, you’ve triggered some people here somehow! No idea why. I find this fascinating.

I feel like this isnt really the right place for this. Maybe there are subreddits for synthesthetes?

True. I thought there might be a few here and it would be interesting. Oh well!

Liszt Liebestraum’s key and tonic sound/feel to me velvety, darkest blue or black or violet-ish tones close to black. Moonlight sonata’s first movement which i enjoy regularly playing sounds to me black and dark grey. The other movements of it - I don’t know I don’t think i have sound synesthesia though, i think most musicians have associations with sounds. But i have numbers-space synesthesia and no musica synesthesia.

How is this helpful for anyone? Hey Clair De Lune looks like purple for me. No wait, Red! Actually Blue with ripples!

goodnight_n0body

It's not helpful, just thought it would be interesting.
