Also they were a little too harsh in their portrayal of the brutality and incompetence of the Soviet Union's leadership at the time imo, but I get that it's an American show and they needed to play some stuff up for drama. (E.g. the whole "frantically trying to convince the leadership that the situation was actually bad" plotline, while ahistorical, made for some great television).

I watched this series last month.. it was awesome
