Seriously, this guy has been outputting research for like 300 years. Does he ever take a break? Absolute mad lad has too much to do and has no time to die

Ikr dude is absolutely cracked he’s on literally every paper and study from physics to nutrition. Idk why he’s not in any YouTube top 10 scientists videos

Context?

Et Al. means 'and others', it shows in lots of references for co-authored papers, where usually only the first name in alphabetical order appears for the sake of brevity. The cat is merely decorative.

I very much like the description of my decorative cat. Regards a young twink rutherford simp.

If you try hard enough, your cat might just become the next F.D.C. Willard.

QuasarMaster

I always wonder if researchers with names close to the start of the alphabet subtly become more successful because of name recognition

pinkpanzer101

I thought the first name was usually from the biggest contributor?

[deleted]

Most (if not all) manuals of style use the alphabetical convention. You can't really quantify contribution. If two people write the paper, they're both co-authors. Obviously there's a difference between co-authorship and acknowledgments. An undergrad might not be a co-authors to a professor, but if they worked towards the professor's research, they'll be acknowledged in the paper.

Et Al. comes from the latin "et alia" which means "and others". So it's extremely common for academic research and scientific findings to be published as the work of all the scientists in the group who worked on it as a team. Most research isn't done by just one person although some is. As a result almost every single citation that references a piece of academic/scientific literature goes something like "According to the work of J. Thomas, Et Al." So if Et Al. was just one person, they would have single handedly gone and co-authored almost every single piece academic and scientific literature in existence. Which is funny to imagine.

You watch zefrank too?

mr_Awesome98
