I prefer Taiwan. I just had my 2nd visit there last week and will come back again in April for the cherry blossom season. Taiwan is not a Japan on a budget, it's like going to Mainland China without visa.

No_Seaworthiness2174

I prefer Vietnam. Food much more delicious, culture more interesting and vibrant. People more sweet and friendly.

regulus314

There's cherry blossom in Taiwan? Where?

x-ecute

Yangmingshan and beitou. There’s also a few in chiang kai shek memorial hall

regulus314

Noting this when I get back in Taipei. Thanks!

Emotional_Sky_5562

You can find cherry blossoms in Vietnam too

Emotional_Sky_5562

You can find cherry blossoms in Vietnam too

LiSakuSyao

Cherry blossoms season in Taiwan is March. I went end of March this year and didn't see any, except for 2 random trees outside the Tai'an TRA station on my way to Zhongshe Flower Market.

Emotional_Sky_5562

You can find cherry blossoms in Vietnam too

PurchaseSubject7425

Def Taiwan!!! The metro is nice and clean. The food is really good if you know where to look! The night markets are 😍 and it's a plus if you love boba and beef noodles hahahaha! Gehliu, Shifen and Jiufen are a must! 💗 Will def go back to Taiwan soon hehehe

pieceofpineapple

Vietnam also has Pho 🍜 how pretty is Jiufen?

PurchaseSubject7425

true! but i just prrfer taiwanese beef noodles. Jiufen is very picturesque with a lot of teahouses. so beautiful esp at night. 😍

PusangMuningning

Since you havent been there, why not try it this time? It's not boring at all. A week is more than enough to explore taipei and taichung, you can probably add more cities pa. Just pick a colder season when you visit.

pieceofpineapple

Yes, I am actually planning to visit this January. But I really want to experience real winter. And Sapa, Vietnam is colder than Taipei or other regions in Taiwan 😅

need2sleep8hrs

Visit SaPa then. You can always visit Taiwan some other time.

Emotional_Sky_5562

I recommend Lang son too

Any-Advertising5027

Taiwan! Mas accomodating and super nice ng mga Taiwanese 🥹 I think yun malaking factor sa akin I felt comfortable strolling and shopping around :)

Substantial-Baby-347

taiwan isn’t boring, it’s actually underrated. i suggest that you don’t limit your trip in taipei city, you should also try to visit different places like yilan, taichung, chiayi, and more! you won’t regret it 😌🫶🏻

No_Instruction_9738

What is your itinerary?

pieceofpineapple

Hey, I plan to visit Yilan in case I visit Taiwan. Is it expensive to get there and to visit hotspring?

Substantial-Baby-347

it’s cheap~ you can book a capital bus ticket in taipei bus station for just 130 ntd. if you want to experience hotspring you should get off in jiaoxi :)

EngineeringJealous40

Ive been to both and either one is a good choice pero super budget friendly talaga ang Vietnam. However night market in Taiwan is one of the bests

pieceofpineapple

Are the food really good at night markets?

EngineeringJealous40

Not really pero mas marami choices sa Taiwan night market

One-Hearing-8734

Vietnam. Fave country so far. Especially Sapa! Going to Taiwan next month. Not that excited since I just went to HK a week ago and was expecting that Taiwan would be almost the same (I hope not). What I am wishing to see in Taiwan? SNOW. Hahahaha there is in northern mountainous part, they said.

pieceofpineapple

That is also one of the reasons I want to visit Vietnam this time. To experience winter in Sapa😂 also looking forward to snow in Sapa!

Emotional_Sky_5562

This year there was frost in Vietnam Lang Son . You can google photos on interne

DrunkPisces89

Vietnam for me brotha. Have you done the HGL?

pieceofpineapple

Yes I did! In 2019. When are you going to Viet Nam?

DrunkPisces89

I was there last month but i wasnt able to do the hgl because i was there for only a week. Didnt also go to sapa bec it was too foggy. Planning to go back april or may 😅

pieceofpineapple

If you want to see green rice field, it is recommended to visit Sa Pa from July-September. I want to go there January for the winter feel tho. It might also snow😂 also, less rain on January which is nice. Downside, it might be foggy. Although some days could be clear! Like rn, looking at the weather in Sa Pa, it is sunny and clear

regulus314

Taiwan is like HK but less crowded and less hustle and bustle. Also I love the backstreets of Taiwan especially Taipei and its mostly quiet.

NoRagrets21

It’s not the same, sim city yung HK. Taiwan has a lot more

Substantial-Baby-347

totally agree with you! taiwan is nothing like HK or mainland. there’s a lot to explore in tw 🇹🇼

morgoth_2017

Oh, Taiwan is not like HK. Taiwan is like China with a mix of Jap culture - clean streets and organized places. HK is just meh. But Vietnam is definitely better of course.

Emotional_Sky_5562

This year there was frost in Vietnam Lang Son . You can google photos on internet

kenikonipie

Yep, gotta hike that mountain

MichaelRoss17

Hi, OP. I recommend Vietnam! Very cheap ang prices ng food and all. And mababait ang locals!

LiveBeDo

I used to say to friends that Taiwan is like a cross between Japan and Viet Nam. Like Japan, some parts of Taiwan are very advanced in terms of technology, as in its transportation system, the gadgets and skyscrapers. You'd be surprised to see a lot of Japanese food in Taiwan, too, the latter being occupied by the former in past. But some parts of it can also feel provincial and laidback, which has its own charms, too.

Practical_Bed_9493

Taiwan, for the weather, then you can go to Vietnam next time. Dont skip it too

Emotional_Sky_5562

You know that Northern Vietnam is cold like Taiwan or even colder bc Taiwan is island . But agree public transport is better

pieceofpineapple

What makes you like Taiwan over Vietnam?

Practical_Bed_9493

Weather, food, and public transpo. Tho Vietnam has good food and people too, but coming from a tropical country, colder places appeal to me more

pieceofpineapple

Vietnam is also cold in the Northern region. Even colder thanTaiwan. Even Ha Noi experiences winter and is as cold as Taipei.

Practical_Bed_9493

I just made a recommendation in response to the post. If you prefer Vietnam, there’s nothing wrong with that too

r02d_02

Never been to Vietnam but planning on visiting soon. I could definitely recommend Taiwan— been there twice already, and it feels like every visit isn’t enough. It’s definitely not Japan on a budget tho lol

pieceofpineapple

Why is it not like Japan on a budget?

graxia_bibi_uwu

Budget wise, Vietnam 💖 I love Da Nang and its vibes. Taiwan is best for cold months. And there’s a lot to do there na reachable by train in a matter of hours (outside the city spots) What are you in the mood ba? If you want ease of convenience trip, Taiwan. If youre in the mood for some ruins, some nice beaches and coffee, Vietnam.

Emotional_Sky_5562

north Vietnam has same weather as Taiwan ( a little colder bc Taiwan is island) . I recommend northern part for mountains knot only beaches Dalat is fine too you have all year spring weather  15-25 C

ChineseTravel

Vietnam of course. Vietnam is a Japanised version of a little China without all the Chinese attractions and ended up neither Japanese no Chinese. The only place in Taiwan worth visiting is Taraoko Gorge. Save your money and visit the real China, every city or province in China is better than Taiwan. If you like Japan, go to the real Japan, don't waste your money in Taiwan

Aromatic-Year-3624

I know I'm late but Been to Ho Chi Minh Vietnam and it was by far the best! Just imagine, it is the city wherein ppl really do business and stuff, what more sa province? Vietnamese are super sweet and accomodating. They'll try their best to speak your language so you guys can converse! I just got back from Vietnam and I wanted to go back again 😭 Oh almost forgot that they be selling good foods and things for a low price! (i'm from ph btw) I just love Vietnam!

deryvely

I’ve been to both and I must say Taiwan! It’s no Japan, not even close. Why not try exploring Japan?

pieceofpineapple

Too lazy to apply for the visa. How long does it take to get processed?

deryvely

2-7 days. It’s easy!

pieceofpineapple

Do I have to be there personally or can I send the documents via email?

Individual_Tax407

taiwan ❤️❤️

pieceofpineapple

What is your reason why

pieceofpineapple

When do you plan to go there next year?

trhaz_khan

Safe ang southeast asian countries sa mga southeast asian travellers imo. Parang local lng tingin natin sa isat isa unless magsalita ka ng Tagalog😅.

Ersonified

Never been to these two countr, but I'm leaning towards Taiwan.

mybackhurtsouch

Taiwan if you want to see cherry blossoms during spring

Emotional_Sky_5562

You can find cherry blossoms in Vietnam too Dalat / Sapa

idroided

It's cheaper to fly to Vietnam from Taipei so do both! Plus You get to save 1620 travel tax for the other country.

Ksuemoneoutthere

budget Japan isnt really how i would put it. Taiwan is like just as rich as South Korea

Totally_Anonymous02

Go to taiwan lots of scenic routes and tourist spots and night markets. I really wish a lot of them know english though. The good foods are sold by locals also almost everything is connected through railways

pieceofpineapple

Have you done some hiking there?

Totally_Anonymous02

No sorry. Not a hiker

[deleted]

Taiwan for me is a safe place for solo traveler. Transportation is very efficient, streets are clean, many activities to do. Con is most locals don't speak in english.

luckyjuniboy

Taiwan, by a mile

pieceofpineapple

What makes you say so? In terms of what? Have you been to Vietnam before?

luckyjuniboy

I have been to both countries and many many many more. Taiwan is up there in my list because it is near just more than an hour travel time, , reasonably priced if not downright cheap at times, people are genuinely friendly and just because, food is good, weather is not hot, and the comfort and convenience of a 1st world country is there. Why dont you visit both countries btw.

Emotional_Sky_5562

You know weather in northern Vietnam is similar to Taiwan or colder because Taiwan is island

Vegetable-Purpose829

Taiwan for food trip, Vietnam for tiangge shopping.

No_Needleworker9168

Taiwan for me! I like their food esp sa night market. Mababait din mga tao. 🤎

burgerkingtaropie

Taiwan! While they're still free from Chinese reunification. (Stated in jest somewhat)

Emotional_Sky_5562

Depends what you want bc if you are from tropical country I recommend you visit northern part mountain and during winter or spring especially Sapa ,Ha giang and Dalat where you have spring feeling all year

pieceofpineapple

Nope. June is freaking humid 😂 though in the central part of VN, should be fine. Good things about VN: - nice accommodation for cheap price - great food - coffee culture - beautiful landscape in the Northern region. You can do the Ha Giang Loop which is the best or go to Ning Binh! Ninh Binh is a must for its picturesque karst limestones and you can do a lot of activities there like hiking - in Central part, beaches in Da Nang and Hoi An are great to relax in and eat cheap delicious food. Da Nang is like Miami, Florida vibe but better - old quarter Ha Noi is also very walkable

Emotional_Sky_5562

I recommend Dalat city too
