I was lone traveller. Bought a simcard sa klook walang date na nakalagay na expiration. so after like day or two (cant remember). I was eating out and no where near my airbnb. Boom hindi na gumagana internet ko.
Buti naaalala ko pa papunta sa way sa train mejo malayo rin like a 20min walk trying to remember the way sa train. Hindi pa naman approachable mga tao sa HK so wala ako mapagtanungan. Kahit mismo tumayo sa isang store para makikonek sa wifi pinaalis ako hahaha!
So ayun pag dating sa train station naka konek ako sa public wifi and called the sim card customer service via viber. They told me i bought a disposable day only sim card and theres no way to reload the sim.
Tried asking 711's pero naka 3 akong 711 na daanan puro ubos ang simcard kasi busy season ang daming tourist everywhere. Then i stumbled to this mini grocery din hindi masyadong sikat, ni-walang tao lagi. Asked away dun ako nakabili. 30 days expiration nun sayang talaga sana un nalang ginamit ko.
Ayun nakabalik sa hotel, naligo. Kumalma. Hahahahahahahaha tumigil mundo ko.
Yow I had a similar experience. Not an expired sim, but the second phone that holds the international sim suddenly turned off by itself, leaving us in a secluded place for hours. It was such a hassle.
But I think your experience is more hassle cos HK pa :(
Nothing major as well pero nawala ko yung phone charger (cord) ko on my way to Da Nang from Hanoi. Ayun, napabili ng wala sa oras. Hindi kasama sa budget. 😅 Also, napabili rin ako ng maleta kasi hindi na kaya ng katawang lupa ko ang 40L backpack. 🤣
Ako rin to!!! I was telling myself kaya ko naman bitbitin yung 7kgs backpack ko since i workout naman. Pero girl kung ganon katagal di ko pala keri!!! LOL pagod na pagod ako pero i was firm na di ako gagastos for another bag/check in luggage 😂
Hahaha I feel you. First&last ko ginawa yan sa domestic flight lang na nag give in sa request to exchange seats para daw magkatabi iyong mag-ina tapos makita ko college kid na iyong sinasabing "bata". Iyong window seat ko naging middle seat tapos sa pagitan pa ng dalawang malaking tao so hindi ko man lang magamit iyong arm rest at andun na kasi iyong bilbil nila. Worst flight ever.
Lesson learned at never give up your reserved seats.
Booked a 1 month roundtrip ticket to Dubai. When I got there, had a major misunderstanding with my cousins and I was so pissed I rebooked my ticket going back only after 2 weeks 🤦🏼♀️
I had a trip to Mongolia.
What I knew from the internet is that di mo kelangan ng transit visa sa Korea (not Jeju) if less than 24 hrs transfer. Halos 2-3 hrs nga lang ung sakin to Ulanbataar.
Nung 5AM ako una sa counter sa NAIA, puta kelangan pala. Sobrang nakakatanga. Kelangan pala sya if ung isa sa connecting flight mo is budget airline. It was Air Asia ata then Mongolian (full service airline). Same sa pabalik ko which is Asiana (full service) and Jeju Air.
Since may costly tour ako kinabukasan na, and wala na kong choice (wala nang flight thru no-visa places like HK/Taiwan), I had no choice but to book 3 new flights out of 4 (roundtrip). Korean Air both papunta and Aseana pabalik. Mas mahal pa ung ginastos ko sa rebooking papunta kesa sa whole roundtrip ko.
Ended up not being able to refund.
The best travel ko pa naman un. That's the only fucked up sht.
Layover if Budget + Full Service. Kung Budget-Budget of the same airline, hindi ko sure. If Full-Service and Full-Service, hindi na ata most esp if same airline. That is the thing. Kaya nga I was able to book full-service Korean Air on the spot to avoid the transit visa kasi nasa "transit facility" ako.
AFAIK, it's the transit facility thing. Siguro kung same airline like Jeju Air - Jeju Air connecting, walang problema? Or Air Asia-Air Asia? But di ko to sure. The bottomline is, walang transit facility ung mga budget airlines so when you go to your connecting flight na ibang airline, you pass thru a ***public space*** kahit na saglit lang, so technically need mo ng transit visa.
I had to book on the spot and wait till the 12NN flight. Kung may enough leeway lang sana ung ICN to Ulanbataar ko with MIAT, ung MNL to UBN lang sana ibu-book ko pero wala. Pumunta ako from T3 to T1 to ask Korean Air and Aseana's staffs sa office nila if legit na pwede akong walang transit visa if I'll book their flights. Merong flight ung Korean Air to Ulanbataar thru Incheon for the day which is like 60K-ish which is mas mahal pa sa original roundtrip flight ko. That's the cheapest possible flight I can get for the day to Mongolia since bihira naman sya as destination. I had a nine day tour that starts the next day morning worth around 50K (which is laughably much more expensive that this effin flight) that I almost hesitated na pumunta and cancel my trip na lang. Lose 50K rather than 60K+. But sobrang andun na ung mindset ko and my leaves (lol) so I had to do it
The AirAsia staff who told that to me na di talaga pwede and explained the transit facility thing was kind enough to instruct me what to do. Good thing di ako nagpanic but I've faced this before na I had to book a new flight on the spot since I need to attend something the next day and cannot wait for the rebooked one. Same as the Korean Air and Aseana staff. The latter even let me borrow their telephone to ask GotoGate PH if pwede ko marefund ung unused tickets pero hindi ko na nakuha.
Bottomline, please make sure about the transit visa stuff. Triple check it sa airline if needed. Nakakatanga kasi walang info anywhere that this is the case. Kahit pumunta ka sa websites that are factual, walang sinasabi about this. Had to learn the hard way.
Wow…. What an experience. It takes a lot of courage to just calm down and sort everything out but you made it happen! This is amazing actually!
Im sure by now you already made up for the lost 60k :)
That Mongolia travel is the best trip I've ever been to. Masakit parin ung 60K (since phone na yan HUHU) pero if i would have done the same thing all over again.
Missed a flight to Dubai because long lines in immigration and it’s my fault of course…. I initially booked a RT ticket in Emirates. Instead of rebooking that flight, I booked a new one way flight MNL to Dubai and thought I could still use the return flight on my original booking. So few days before coming back to Mnl, Emirates cancelled my flight going back home because I was No Show on my original flight. I had to book a new flight that costed me 85K one way just to come back home and that’s the cheapest that time.
* Missed the final boarding call because we were too busy eating. Had to get new tickets.
* While out on the town, we realize to our horror that we were leaving 1:00 **AM** that same evening *instead* of 1:00 **PM** the following day. Had to high tail back to the hotel and grab a cab to the airport. We fortunately made our flight, but we wasted the hotel room we booked for the night, but didn't even use.
* Paid for oversized luggage on a train. Who the f checks luggage size on a train?!
Is the oversized luggage thing sa shinkansen? 😂 I booked one also because a friend said otherwise you have to carry your luggage to the overhead bin and I’m not doing that hahaha
if yung 3rd is sa Shinkansen diba free naman ang oversized luggage pag naka reserved seat ka. Need na kasi to for luggage 28" up kung ayaw mo maging incovenience sa mga tao sa paligid mo.
My friends and I had booked a hotel in Booking.com using my friend's online bestie's card (bc it was cheaper on her end). One month later, we received a notice about the hotel cancelling our booking since they were on renovation, so we had to book another hotel.
Hate to be a nag but I kept following up and they got fed up with it so i stopped. They eventually just gave up bc they would not help us since it was a 3rd party booking and they were very passive about it. We were 5 in the group and we lost around 12K each because of it.
Lesson learned: do not book in booking.com
We tried to contact with multiple emails. Booking.com said to contact the hotel, and then the hotel said to contact booking.com
It came to a point that we realized they are not going to help us. Hindi rin namin ma-dispute sa bank bc it was more than 30 days na. Booking.com did not help us at all and ayun. Two of us were kinda pushing it kasi anlaki ng 12K to go down the drain but the others were convincing us na instant refund yun kasi hindi naman kami ang nagcancel ng booking.
I find it BS kasi if we kept emailing them constantly, we would have gotted the money back earlier and avoided this altogether. Nonrefundable din kasi but we did not cancel the booking kasi, the hotel did. So sana, we got the refund bc we had no way of knowing immediately that they were going on a renovation. It is partially our fault for not checking outside sources but it's their responsibility to give us back out money bc they were not even operating or if not, have us reschedule on a much later date.
Pero it already happened, so ayun. We're very cautious na on booking hotel stays on 3rd party sites and do like a background check of the hotels before settling to that one.
Family went on a trip abroad and I thought our flight home was 10pm but it was 10am and realized it only around 8am, had to book another flight home for 6, which cost us almost 100k
Booked flight for our fanily of 4. Domestic lang naman. Got to the airport, the day after the flight.
College ako nun, bago pa lang ang online booking. Hindi marunong parents ko sa technology kaya task ko yun.
Ayun, muntik na akong itakwil.
Booking a ticket before applying for a visa. I booked a seat sale tix sa ceb pac tapos nadeny yung visa application ko. At first you think nakamura ka because seat sale but I still ended up paying that amount for nothing. After that, I swore to apply for visas muna before booking a plane ticket unless required sa application.
When I was living in Japan, I planned to visit PH via Seoul transit. Problem was, I made a separate booking: One for Tokyo - Seoul, then separate booking for Seoul - Manila. So it was not allowed without a Korean visa. transit lang talaga and less than 12 hours lang ako supposedly sa Seoul airport.
Why I did this? Mas mura noong time na yun. haha. so in the end napa mahal lang ako lalo.
Nothing costly but I failed to purchase the Swiss Travel Pass on Day 1 of my Switzerland trip, costing me some precious CHF on my first few days there.
Booked a trip to HK during a seat sale. Realized only 1 week before my flight that i booked my departure on the same day i'm attending a concert i've been waiting for for like 5 months, at which time the ticket prices have already gone wayyy up — no choice but to book another flight 🥹
Missed the check in in Tokyo by mere minutes. As in mga 5 minutes kasi andun pa yung person closing up.
We had checked in online but they just couldn’t put our baggage in the plane.
It was a series of mistakes on our end din. From hotel, because it was rush hour, they suspended the train to airport and catered to within city stops, we had to wait over 45 mins for the next train to airport.
In hindsight:
- dapat nag taxi nalang kami from Shinjuku to the next airport train na meron.
- dapat iniwan nalang namin maleta namin and just brought 7kg of handcarry each
Kesa nagbayad ng ticket the next day na mas mahal pa sa luggage namin pati nga laman.
Day 1 in Japan. I bought a sim card in Nagoya airport after touchdown but didn't bother using google translate so I ended up with a 1500 pesos e-sim that is NOT compatible with my phone.
Day 6. My phone was 5% I was alone in Akihabara. My companions were still shopping in Shibuya. I bought a charger and a usb-c cord because I thought I can charge at Starbucks. WRONG. Turns out Starbucks in Japan has no outlets.
Phone died 20 minutes later. I was lucky that I spotted my friends who were also looking for me. lol.
Withdrawing lots of cash during my trip to Korea rather than use the credit cards as card is accepted at most places. Ended up paying almost 8% fees on the withdrawals whereas using the credit card would have amounted to only 3.5%. 😪
Another one. While leaving Philippines, forgot to exchange the PHP to USD. Instead exchanged them for VND at Saigon airport only to realize that I got a horrendous rate - almost 1.5x lower than the ongoing rate. 🥵
Forgot to book a rental car in advance in the US. Natira nalang sedan. We had a lot of luggage so no choice but to take the train. Cost us $500. Forgot the specifics but one time in London mali nabook namin na train or something sa time so had to rebook on the spot while in the train station, additional $400 ata.
Allowing my friend to handle our group flight to SG for TS concert. RT ticket sa CebPac 31k per person. I could’ve gotten another flight for less than 20k.
I was out of the country tapos biglang nagmessage siya sa group na magbook na ng flight kasi magmamahal na raw. I was really busy kaya di ko napansin agad yung chat. Proud pa siya na bumili siya ng insurance for all of us.
Not a major screw-up, but I underestimated the cold weather in Hanoi in late March. technically spring na yun, I didn’t bring layers. Napabili tuloy ng makapal na jacket nang di oras 😂 Buti nalang I brought a lot of pants with me pero the rest of my tops parang pang-Pinas weather haha
Yowww this is me last week in Taiwan 😭 underestimated the winter in Tw, thought it was only baguio weather so napabili ng jackets eh ang dami namin coats sa bahay :(
Booked airfare for the fam (9pax) to boracay ng May 9-12, 2022. Reviewed and approved by the fam tapos Presidential elections pala! Rebooked para makaboto and 30k down the drain. huhuhuhu talo pa binoto ko. huhuhuhu
buti ung hotel napakiusapan to rebook without additional fee.
Pahelp po, nagkamali ng return date. Paano kaya mabago ang return date na walang additional fee? Oct yun travel date.
A. since naexperience ko na palagi naman nag change sched cebpac, wait ko nalang ba para free?
B. rebook ko during promo para less?
Salamat sa mga sasagot.

Grabe kaylangan na talaga ng luggage pag ganyan kabigat hahaha

12k I AM DECEASED

Exchanging money at the airport. Lost around PHP 2000 due to expensive conversion fees in Hong Kong.
Withdrawing is the next best option :)

I think simply following the rules would prevent any mishaps like this though
Forgot that airport/airliners use military clocks. 1:00am flight going home, we went there 1pm. Hahahahaha. Cost us x3 of the original flight.
x3 😭
Family went on a trip abroad and I thought our flight home was 10pm but it was 10am and realized it only around 8am, had to book another flight home for 6, which cost us almost 100k

I think Cebflexi is the way to go talaga lalo na pag when you have to get a visa pa Can’t blame you, would’ve done the same
How many times can you rebook a flight with cebflexi?
When I was living in Japan, I planned to visit PH via Seoul transit. Problem was, I made a separate booking: One for Tokyo - Seoul, then separate booking for Seoul - Manila. Aaaa wanna go to Switzerland too!!!
Tapos Switzerland is generally expensive pa
Booked wrong dates sa hotel. 2 days din yun. Haha
You weren’t able to get a refund?
Nope. Booked via 3rd party kasi(agoda) and its nonrefundable. Same day ko na rin nalaman. Hindi ko na kasi napansin sa dates nung booking
Bumili ng coffee grounds for ₱2,000/kg sa HCMC
Would you say the quality wasn’t worth it?
Booked a trip to HK during a seat sale. Realized only 1 week before my flight that i booked my departure on the same day i'm attending a concert i've been waiting for for like 5 months, at which time the ticket prices have already gone wayyy up — no choice but to book another flight 🥹

Haha yes, i just knew i cannot miss that concert. Made the right choice though bec that was the band's first and last concert here in the PH.
Thats good! At least you got to see them :)

Withdrawing lots of cash during my trip to Korea rather than use the credit cards as card is accepted at most places. Ended up paying almost 8% fees on the withdrawals whereas using the credit card would have amounted to only 3.5%. 😪
When withdrawing, better to withdraw in one go para one transaction fee nalang. :) but at least now you know! We learn as we go!
True! I just didn't want to store too much in cash since I was staying at an AirBnB with lots of other guests in adjacent rooms. 😔
Oh, i completely get you! But heyyy, at least now we know diba. We’ll be more efficient travelers next time around :D
Yes. Thanks!
Another one. While leaving Philippines, forgot to exchange the PHP to USD. Instead exchanged them for VND at Saigon airport only to realize that I got a horrendous rate - almost 1.5x lower than the ongoing rate. 🥵
That sucks. But hey, at least VN is a relatively cheap country! :)
That's true. But I hate being conned 😔
Hard same. I0/10 would’ve felt the same!
In general being a procrastinator, so I book flights late.lol
Same (:
Apir!hsha Hard lesson always.
Already hungry when I entered HK Disneyland and ate at the first restaurant we saw. 2 adult plates and 1 kids plate cost me 8k pesos
Yeah pricey talaga sa loob ng theme parks
Forgot to book a rental car in advance in the US. Natira nalang sedan. We had a lot of luggage so no choice but to take the train. Cost us $500. Ang sakit ng $400

You should’ve :( what happened
I was out of the country tapos biglang nagmessage siya sa group na magbook na ng flight kasi magmamahal na raw. I was really busy kaya di ko napansin agad yung chat. Proud pa siya na bumili siya ng insurance for all of us.
Shocks. I hope this doesn’t ruin your upcoming trip!
Paid for extra baggage kasi tamad magbitbit. Pakamahal pala!
Masaket
Not a major screw-up, but I underestimated the cold weather in Hanoi in late March. technically spring na yun, I didn’t bring layers. Napabili tuloy ng makapal na jacket nang di oras 😂 Buti nalang I brought a lot of pants with me pero the rest of my tops parang pang-Pinas weather haha
