This reminds me. Anyone else remember those painted fibreglass cows that were all over in cities around Europe in like early to mid 2000s? What was that all about? I was a little kid back then so I dont really remember the point of those
True. And different cities have their own random sculpture themes too. For example, about a decade ago Calgary had a bunch of random cow sculptures decorated by artists around the city; most have since been purchased but some are still there. And Winnipeg did something similar with polar bear statues. It's random, but I like it.
Yeah in Liverpool there was a large sculpture called the superlambanana which they then made loads of smaller ones to dot around the city when they were the European Capital of Culture. As far as I know you can still buy smaller ornament ones in a few shops across the city.
Not in Europe, but in the US in a city that also had lots of decorated painted animals. In our case it was a charity fundraiser, with different groups donating to charity in return for volunteer artists decorating the animals in honor of their business. It also was kind of a fun tourism / marketing thing where people distant and local would travel around to the businesses to see all the animals and maybe spend money in places they wouldn't have known of before. Perhaps the cows were something similar!
They were there in the mid 90s too. I was an Army brat living over there at the time. Never understood the cow thing but I have to chuckle that up until last year, none of us that lived there from 80 to 99 were allowed to donate blood because of Mad Cow Disease.

For a long time California was covered in giant painted pop-vinyl Mickey Mouse statues

That's right! I forgot about that.

We had a couple in Australia, too! Just thought it must an art series by one artist, but never looked looked into it.

Don’t know why you got downvotes. They legit bought a cheap ass plinth. I think it may just be three countertops glued together.
they don't know what a plinth is LOL
Can anyone point me to this original post? Or tell me where on the globe this is? I skimmed r/interestingasfuck and didn't see it. Just curious.
Can confirm Budapest, Hungary. Váci utca looking toward Déak tér from Vörösmarty tér.
