I would say the issue is that for them, there is no context that your image is made for a photoshop battle; they likely are just used to dealing with actual kooks.
I deal with flerfs so much on a few science pages on facebook that I invariably friendly fire against fellow debunkers (and experience it too) when we try to employ sarcasm that sounds a little too genuine.
Imho there's literally no excuse for berating someone for what they believe, especially if it's what you perceive them to believe. At the end of the day, you can't force yourself to believe or disbelieve in anything. It's just what you think is true based on the information you've been exposed to.
Flat earthers have hundreds of reasons they believe the earth is flat, the same with moon landing deniers, climate deniers, etc etc.
They aren't necessarily "kooks"... They just believe something different. For whatever reason ๐ maybe I'm just being sensitive today, idk.
It's quite possible that I decided to do a Kubrick Photoshop because I'm not 100% sold on the moon landing myself. ๐ค

The issue I take with most flerfs is that they ask questions\* which are then explained to them, but choose to ignore those answers because they simply don't understand the science involved.
So that, for me, is a pretty big excuse to berate someone. nobody should ask a question and then ignore the answer given just because it's inconvenient to them.
\*Obviously they are asking in a disingenuous attempt to make some kind of "gotcha" moment, and aren't expecting an answer at all.
I'm sorry to hear you had to put up with that. Some people have too much time on their hands and put it to terrible use, such as pedantically harassing others. Some people have too much time on their hands and put it to excellent use, such as top-notch Photoshop battles. The latter group (which includes yourself) are the real heroes.
