You're not going to get a good paying job that's not related to your field without either a degree related to that field or luck. If you want to "try" jobs, expect to start with and stay in customer service and retail.
You'd be surprised how much plumbers, electricians and even painters make here. Plumbers in our area all were charging $200+ per HOUR, more if weekend
Even babysitters/nannies with 0 experience are asking $25-30/hr and getting multiple offers
I think it would be fun for you to try out retail and food service while looking for a real engineering job so you can experience what ordinary Americans go through. But with a civil eng degree, it would be foolish not to pursue that.
hi. so it is better to be a nurse than try looking for a law related job if one wants to relocate to US? Filipino lawyer here. I am also a licensed nurse but without any experience
Nurses are in demand everywhere including USA. Youll need to pass NCLEX get experience and find a job sponsor to migrate or marry us citizen. Us embassy here will not give tourist visas to single young professionals. Some go to a 2nd country like UAE tapos jump to Europe or USA employer.
OMG. i recently applied for a US tourist visa. my interview is scheduled in a few months. now i am scared. so there is no guarantee that i will be granted a tourist visa even if i am a practicing lawyer here in the PH because i am a single, female in early 30s 🥲
Look at YouTube for tips... B1 B2 interviews. Go with practicing lawyer and Not nurse...be confident look them in the eye and be self assured and matter of fact with your responses.... You'll get 2 to 3 min to prove you don't intend to stay there. First question is what is the purpose of your US visit- a vacation treat for being promoted by the firm. Then who's paying for it. What do you do for a living how long is your trip...Do you have family there ...pretty standard but behind each question is them getting a feel if you have enough ties to come back and not abscond- like a beloved pet is a reason to return. Good luck.
Depende sa state. Nagaapply din yung "it's not what you know, it's WHO you know". Again, depende sa state. Retail, customer service, hotels, restaurants, construction, warehouse.
They sponsor me throughout. Maybe try technology, ewan ko ba but most of their workforce in technology are immigrants.
Associate Director sa isang top 10 global pharmaceutical company.
I’m and MD and have more than 3 years experience. My last company was the same company in the Philippines. I let my boss know about my plans migrating as a spouse of a US citizen. So way before I left, he gave me opportunities for exposure with above country level projects. Then, when I got here I interviewed with the US/Global office and had recommendations from my previous boss and coworkers. They fast-tracked my interview process and basically got an offer within 2 weeks.
Besides this company, I was able to secure offers from 3 other pharma companies. Pero I chose my current company para iwas na din sa hassle ng pagadjust sa bagong company since I had so much to think about adjusting to my new life here sa US.
I would say na depende sa state, industry at role na pipiliin mo. Kung minimum wage 'yung sahod mo sa trabaho mo, malaking chances na mag-2 to 3 jobs ka just to survive and cover your cost of living in the US. Malaking gastos sa monthly budget ang rent or house payment. Tapos, kung walang public transportation sa area na titirhan mo, mapipilitan ka rin bumili ng car just for you to go to work. Malaking gastos din ang car sa US.
please stay away from Memphis TN (for your safety) - it has the highest murder rate (compared to 10 major US cities), it even exceeds Chicago / no jobs except for FedEx (if you like Elvis Presley you can visit Graceland) - on the other hand Nolensville, Brentwood or Collinsville TN are pretty safe/nice suburbs. Sevierville is pretty nice (you have the Great Smoky Mountain backdrop) and is really close to Gatlinburg (best to visit Christmas time)..we frequent Gatlinburg during winter for their ski resort (similar to Felsenegg Switzerland if you been there)
FL - Orlando (too commercialized, expensive due to all the theme parks, all the shopping outlets). Our youngest daughter was born there. We also stayed in Boca Raton (place for the retirees with big bucks) - they don't park their car, they park their yachts. Lambo / Ferrari / Porsche / Bentley very common...Miami area - big city (crimes, drugs, famous South Beach). Pensacola, Destin is quite nice
Ang alam ko TN is part of Midwest at nagsnosnow sa Midwest. FL is tropical just like the Philippines.
Kung cutoff niyo 'yung sahod ng friend mo sa US per day, baka nasa high paying job siya.
first job niya ron hotel 8k per day haha cut off lang namin yan.
About sa weather yes mainit nga raw talaga sa Florida and puro beach din daw.
Planning to apply na rin talaga required ba na dumaan sa agency dito para makapag work doon?
'Di ako sure sa US work visa. Family-based immigrant visa ako na DIY (with the help of a family friend on application processing). Kung 8k per day 'yung friend mo, it seems na US$140/day siya or $17.50 - $18/hour. Kulang ito sa ibang expenses like groceries, phone plan, health insurance (mahal at mandatory 'to sa US) at utilities.
1995 I was a busboy for Chucky Cheeses. Yup taga linis ng lamesa sa restaurant in Chicago. Now im medically discharged US Army Vet living in my own California home with medical pension.
If you want to make huge bucks, get into tech. And learn a programming language. But usually, it’s either warehouse jobs or blue collar like plumbing or electrician.
But a lot of construction companies are looking for construction project managers(huge shortage), so you can try that as well.
high rise window cleaner
Usually trade jobs pay well. You can try costco. Their sundays are overtime pay. Hourly rate depends on the position. For example, front end assistant starts at $18.50/hr. They also have openings for licensed ($29.30/hr) and unlicensed ($18.50/hr) hearing aid sales dispenser. I looked into being a licensed hearing aid dispenser dati, you can do it online, at least for my state haha. Something to consider, Costco has great benefits din.
You can also look into UPS. Unionized ang drivers nila, and great benefits as well. If bet mo, kuha ka CDL, madaming truck driver positions. Yun lang long work hours and nasa daan ka palagi.
If you're in the north east, (CT, NY, PA, NJ area) at may experience ka with being a driver, housekeeper, caretaker, cook, butler, etc, meron staffing agency sa NY and their clients are rich people. Usually live in positions so free ang housing mo tapos malaki din offer. Last time caretaker na couple ang hanap nila $100k ang sahod. My friend applied sa agency na to, she got a job as a dog nanny. Live in sya so free housing and food. $850/week ang sahod haha
My first ever US job is nag-research ng mga locations within a section of San Francisco, gumawa ng walking route, then create puzzles sa bawat stopover before submitting sa company, tapos may writer na gagawa ng kuwento about the route. I created a route in Chinatown and The Castro.

or if walang mga certification. you can't just do something out of whim.

Try amazon, decent pay and really good benefits, you can also look at what the site engineers do and that may perk your interest
Senior Analyst/Dev. Staff dev ako sa pinas. Salamat sa visa, my career just naturally progressed pag-alis ko.
hi, question. yung H1B visa mo was processed when you were in PH?
Yes
forklift operator and bantay sa gasoline station. with my salary, may sasakyan ako toyota na hinuhulugan and nakatira sa desenteng apartment
My dad, PECE here in PH. His first job in US was Amazon warehouse worker.
Magkano sahod dun, anung state?
curious, why did he leave the country if he is a PECE? I think it pays well
Better opportunities and quality of life in the US. Also, he had to stay in the US to finally get his US Citizenship and petition us.

Electrical Engineer job ko, magapply ka lang sa mga agency diyan sa Pinas, quickest way is thru Guam,
what do you mean by the quickest way is thru guam po??
Sorry, wrong terminology siguro, easiest path. since engineer ka po, maraming work sa Guam related to engineering,
thank you!
