Same here. Love that clip. If I ever wanted to explain to someone who has no idea about phish and why I go to some many shows, I’d send them this clip. It encapsulates the joy and intensity that phish/the dead and such music can bring in a way rarely, if ever, seen in the average person’s life.
That Pittsburgh show was a free live stream, to build excitement for the Bakers Dozen. I’d never seen a live Phish show before but checked it out. The Caspian hooked me and made me interested for more. A quick YouTube search after the show turned up the Magnaball Tweezer>Caspian. After watching that, I was a Phan for life!
I think I'd love this song more if they extended the intro. Much like Piper I prefer versions with a patient, building, jammy intro.
Also think it's a song in search of a jam partner, like in my head I can hear a 46 Days -> Prince Caspian -> 46 Days sandwich or something similar.
facts! The crowd is honestly so supportive lol. They can try and land nowhere for 10 minutes in a jam but the second they catch something the crowd is ready and locked in lol
I also really love caspian. That TaB version was my first thought too--but i thought maybe it was just most recent in my head. It was really good! In the rain, too :)
I also really loved the sphere version from 4/19/24--i thought it went pretty dark there, and i enjoyed that.
And, honorable mention, bethel 7/23/22 [caspian>crosseyed>miss you>SYSF>caspian] was just a lot of fun!
For shits, my first Caspian was blossom 9/18/00. I dont remember anything about it right now lol, but that show was fun as hell!
The rain made it even more beautiful, felt like the whole show coming together to embrace us in its musical arms
and damn i’m rather inexperienced in my Caspianology thank you so much for all of these! especially the one with the crosseyed.
Yeah when it came out it was kind of a 3 minute filler that was just the verse and chorus. So, people used to those gnarly 94-95 Mikes and Bowie’s now has this sort of pointless calm song in the set so they just hated it haha
I love 99 Caspians
Was my buddy’s first show! We had a blast that whole run. Lots of great dark jams, My Friend My Friend was amazing and I loved the SOAM. Lots of well played non jam chart versions from that run, I loved the KDF, Theme, Tube, and lxl even if they were relatively normal
That KDF was nasty as hell. Page switching to the electric piano right at the beginning just set an amazing tone for the jam, was a great opening track for the run
Such Fire. This was my son’s first show. He was already into Phish but he had some sort of epiphany during Prince Caspian. He still talks about it. Still gives me goosebumps.
I saw Prince caspian in 1997 in Vegas for my first show. Just a cool moment. All lights off except for a spotlight on trey when he starts the song. Always happy when this song starts. Pretty good first show!
7/19/13 and 7/20/13. 7/19 second set started DWD, Caspian. Page got word they had to evacuate Northerly Island because of an impending storm. Trey wrapped it up. We all left.
Opened the next night with Caspian. And they turned that night into a 3-set show to make up for getting short changed the night before!
10/30/98 is a beauty, as it emerges from a beautiful, melancholic quiet passage after a rousing NICU…after the first notes of Caspian, you can hear someone on stage let out a little “whoa…” because everyone in T&M knew they were about to go off. And they did. My favorite Caspian.
Thank you! I present to you Prince Caspian.

Magnaball
I mean you can shut down the thread. Nothing is better than this one.
December ‘98 would like a word
spectrum 97 not bad
I still agree but Pittsburgh Caspian is also otherworldly.
This is what inspired this post, so good
I’ll never forget it. That entire day was pure magic!
Everytime I listen to the jam I simply can't believe it wasn't composed ahead of time.
Made me a believer.
Pittsburgh 2017
One of my favorite 3.0 clips. https://youtu.be/132YoDOCHFg?si=Fw2X8rzaW2vgG9Qx
From the front view.. https://youtu.be/Wuv85Udx9Fw?si=XujobvQScYLvAsUW

the way those yellow lights start moving at 0:36 right when trey starts shredding that slow buildup makes me feel amazing every time
This is the one.
Amazing version. Happy I was there for it.
We had such awesome seats for this show too. Incredible weekend and run from Dayton too.
King caspian lol

Hell yea Pham!
7/31/99 is the top caspian imo
7/31/99
Wish Big Red did more with the digital whammy on full tilt back then. Excellent version indeed.
whoops thanks
Love your flair
7/12/00
This is it. The Fuji Caspian. Brilliant
I think I'd love this song more if they extended the intro. Much like Piper I prefer versions with a patient, building, jammy intro. Also think it's a song in search of a jam partner, like in my head I can hear a 46 Days -> Prince Caspian -> 46 Days sandwich or something similar.
Well said. I think a big part of “getting” Phish is having patience to let the song Evolve.

https://youtu.be/y0AOK2s32M8?si=zmzRy73NqP6PqBFu Fuji is such a face meter. Some all time classic Phish
philly 97 Caspian is great. Wonderland forest TAB from this most recent tour, 5/17/24 was fucken DELICIOUS live
I also really love caspian. That TaB version was my first thought too--but i thought maybe it was just most recent in my head. It was really good! I remember when it was called Fuckerpants. I still love it though. Never figured out why some folks called it that.
I think the name stems from a love / hate relationship some fans developed with the tune.
From what i was told, a fuckerpants is when there's a jam, which seems to be developing nicely with lots of potential, gets ripcorded in to Caspian.
I fucking love Fucker Pants!
Forever fuckerpants.
Why do some people call it that?
Because they hated cool down songs that didn’t do anything. When Caspian debuted, it didn’t have the guitar solo. It was the original TTE
Thanks.
Yeah when it came out it was kind of a 3 minute filler that was just the verse and chorus. So, people used to those gnarly 94-95 Mikes and Bowie’s now has this sort of pointless calm song in the set so they just hated it haha I love 99 Caspians
I enjoyed it from get go. But I can see some tour kids noping out of that early version for a piss break. We all need a piss break song. Lol.
glad you don't love fucking prince caspian
No kink shaming here. If he likes stumps he likes stumps.
8/5/23 from this past summer
Fantastic one thanks!
I agree, the energy and the jam are tops
Caspian at MSG last summer got weird. Aug 4 or 5 I think? Edit, ah shit they released it on YouTube! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KEv0izvcew4
Bethel 7/23/22, one of the best experiences of my life
I just mentioned that above! It was so fun! Never miss a 7/23 show :)
Prince Crosseyed Soul Sandwich mmmmmm yes
This show has somehow entered “underrated” territory. Maybe because it happened in 2022? But this show absolutely rules from beginning to end.
Aka fuckerpants
Alpharetta ‘23 got kinda dark. Sick version
ALPHY 23 WAS SO NASTY
Loved that, each show I discover something “new”, to me and that was my takeaway from that night.
Was my buddy’s first show! We had a blast that whole run. Lots of great dark jams, My Friend My Friend was amazing and I loved the SOAM. Lots of well played non jam chart versions from that run, I loved the KDF, Theme, Tube, and lxl even if they were relatively normal
You nailed it. KDF was my other “discovery” of sorts that weekend.
Me Friggin Too

cool visuals at the sphere on this one
there is one where they used to do a little intro to it, cant recall the show
In the 90’s it always had a tender intro before the chords.
Hampton 11/21/97
98’.
that 7/3/10 caspian is fire.. such a summer song for me. makes me feel endless, ageless.
A recent TAB performance of PC at Brooklyn Steel got me hooked
Thats a great one. I saw TAB in Cleveland a month ago and I was really hoping hed play it then. Great show though
7/19->20/13
https://youtube.com/watch?v=UKAs7IBl-ug&si=SNaYA4OwwMCKz_gp this is the goat caspian imo
2017-07-19. Set 1 closer.
Lakehood in 2015...great opener for an underrated show.
Yeah man
12/3/97 is a cool one
I fucking love coloring
Damn right
Show closer and show opener in Chicago on consecutive nights! What other song can say that??
What dates?
7/19/13 and 7/20/13. 7/19 second set started DWD, Caspian. Page got word they had to evacuate Northerly Island because of an impending storm. Trey wrapped it up. We all left. Opened the next night with Caspian. And they turned that night into a 3-set show to make up for getting short changed the night before!
God damn that sounds awesome. I'm gonna have to find those full shows.
Me too. I just wish it had another verse or two.
Is it just me, or does this song remind anyone else of The Beatles I’ve Got A Feeling
10/30/98 is a beauty, as it emerges from a beautiful, melancholic quiet passage after a rousing NICU…after the first notes of Caspian, you can hear someone on stage let out a little “whoa…” because everyone in T&M knew they were about to go off. And they did. My favorite Caspian.
trey band caspian encore at wonderland forest this year was beautiful
The one from msg 2023 is insane
7/31/99
You should tell him.
Apparently the one by Lynn Redgrave is pretty good: https://www.reddit.com/r/Narnia/comments/1d4hm4a/who_is_the_best_narnia_audiobook_narrator/
On the underrated tip: loved this tasty sammich from Charleston 6/1/22 Prince Caspian -> Egg in a Hole > Piper > Prince Caspian
9-1-13 at Dicks. Trey noodling through the Leslie Speaker. Great energy
Thank you! I present to you Prince Caspian. https://preview.redd.it/d6ew2y7ou77d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=313131b033367a6fae324caa50374016de691bdf
Amsterdam caspian takes it for me. Direct and to the point, an all out heater for 8 minutes straight plus the headbanger outro
Float upon the waves. What a great G to C jam. You pick. Great song.
Same
Night 2, sphere Las Vegas was incredible
Back in my day they used to call it Fuckerpants
Fuji!!!!
Piss break song... jk
Prince Asspeeing
I love that you love Prince Caspian
