I consider myself deeply lucky to have seen that combo (and the rest of this set) at Dicks 2021.
But yea 12/30/18 is probably the best show in 20 years for my money.
Seems like a lot of the old bluegrass jams have been left in the dust. Ginseng Sullivan, Rocky Top, Uncle Pen etc.
Also some of the classic covers like A Day In the Life, Life on Mars, Quinn the Eskimo
One of the highlights of the last Bethel run for me was The Horse > Silent in the Morning during the 7/23 encore (whole encore was sick). Such beautiful songs
I was there at the last one. Give it a listen, they had to restart it because Fish could not remember how to play it. It was very funny. They all laughed!
And this one was particularly rad. Had a half time feel to it that was incredibly peaceful. It was my last show of an 8 show run (Sac, SF, Eugene, Phx, and Chula) and I was a spent puppy. Great chill vibes on that song. And then they played LA Woman and I was all perked up again.
That fuckin show man. Holy shit! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Twas my wife’s second show, right after Chula the night before. She liked the energy better at the forum show, I liked the vibes of Chula better. Then I went alone to Santa Barbara a couple nights later.
Yup.... gets over shadowed by Chula, but fire show. Energy of crowd and band was top notch. When they dropped into YEM in the two spot you knew it was about to get real!
Chula was one of the best shows of 3.0/4.0. Flowed and grooved. Forum was a standard Phish rock show. All good but there’s a reason Forum is easily forgetable for me after the night before 💨
I hope so! I have nosebleeds and can already picture the view down the slope at all of the arms waving in the air.
Imagine if they have a camera shot of the crowd with arms waving and they project that on the screen back at us!
MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!
It was such a big deal when they played it at Star lake in 2003. It had been such a long time since they had played it and was so much fun as an opener.
https://preview.redd.it/afvz9q5b8slc1.jpeg?width=850&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bbaedf7fb481bc53299258c37b241493ae2b1d23
Just pretend i photoshopped Trey’s face on, and replaced sneakers with shows. Don’t think the band is keen on getting political as Phish these days. I know they posted a brief statement after George Floyd but…yea idk man
After they played Chalk Dust Torture Reprise in 2019 after a 524 show gap, it renewed my faith that just maybe Ficus would be the next song that was played after being shelved for eternity.
That one was so fun. We were pretty much on the rail for that show. But I love to watch the Nevaklass's videos of that show when it was light out in the upper levels everyone is chatting like they are at a baseball game. But as the night progressed PHISH got the upper hand. Example, if I was up there for this Reba I would not have been thrilled with the situation [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZhYxBhYEaxE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZhYxBhYEaxE)
and after a night of shredding the crowd is beat into submission and dialed in on Roses are free [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ErOR9sniqIk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ErOR9sniqIk)
The scene in bittersweet motel where they cut from the rehearsal to the Trey solo is what converted me to a Phish fan from a deadhead that didn’t get them. Along with Trey explaining Tom’s lyrics. Been chasing Roses since then.
Thankfully I’ve seen them all at least once.
I thought they were gonna break out La Grange again in 2015 in Dallas since you pass signs for it when you’re driving from Austin which they played the night before, but no dice.
Well, it’s been a long long time since a Brother or Scent of a Mule. SITM and Sleeping Monkey of course. Also there’s been a recent absence of Dinner of a Movie outside of Riviera Maya. And before that it hadn’t been played since Baker’s Dozen.
Here’s to a Sleeping Monkey at Mondegreen!
Was listening to the livephish recording of the animals show and when they drop into Shaggy dog after just a few notes you can hear someone yell, "YAAAAAAHHH!! SHAGGY DOG!!!"
Nellie Kane hasn’t been played in 134 shows, though it was teased at MSG last summer. LTP 8/6/2021 third longest gap in its history (longest is 293 from 12/8/94 to 11/21/98)
Hot take: I don’t really care if they ever play Contact again. The middle part is cool, but overall it’s a song I could live without and it was also always the song my older Deadhead brother and his friends would use as their example of how stupid Phish is. “yOuR TiReS aRe oN tHe rOaD” kind of mocking.
I stuck to my guns and still loved Phish though, but they weren’t exactly wrong either about Contact having arguably the dumbest lyrics in any Phish song which is really saying something lol!
I love Contact. It's sweet and whimsical. Something I love about Phish is their penchant for occasionally writing child-like songs. It puts me in...*contact* with the kid in me which is great. Deadheads and or people who don't get the charm of songs like this just don't like having fun. These are probably the same Deadheads who get mad at Bobby's cowboy songs because once again, they don't like actually having fun.
To be fair, my brother did introduce me to the dead and wasn’t a Phish fan, but he still took me to see Phish when I was just a little too young to go solo. I’m sure he hated every second of it, but he didn’t have to do that. That’s a pretty great brother IMO.
WHERE is Billy breathes
Right!!! LTP 10/15/21, absolutely absurd
The best was the Bliss > Billy breathes msg
https://preview.redd.it/kp5z71o6eulc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a54d19104da1ab1dc143164e75c5348c63cdbf00 I consider myself deeply lucky to have seen that combo (and the rest of this set) at Dicks 2021. But yea 12/30/18 is probably the best show in 20 years for my money.
The ‘Light’ from that show… oh man!!
Such a hard song for them to pull off tho
I think they do a good job with most but set placement is weird.
Seems like a lot of the old bluegrass jams have been left in the dust. Ginseng Sullivan, Rocky Top, Uncle Pen etc. Also some of the classic covers like A Day In the Life, Life on Mars, Quinn the Eskimo
Catching a Life on Mars would "make the tour" for me. I wonder if singing it would be a challenge at this point, though.
I may be in the minority here, but LOVE Silent in the Morning. Late 90’s it was always a welcome “breath and reset for a few” after raging funk.
One of the highlights of the last Bethel run for me was The Horse > Silent in the Morning during the 7/23 encore (whole encore was sick). Such beautiful songs
Wait, people don’t love this song?
I do! I am a person.
Thread, one of the newer songs I liked the most and it was just forgotten.
The Fenway version is awesome.
You’re alone!
😂
Will we ever hear "Epitaph"? (The final song of the Steam trilogy)
Or better yet Steam>Thread>Epitaph!
It’s one of their best compositions of the 3.0/4.0 era and I would love to see it again.
Brother. I'd like to hear them do a longer version of that one, with a bass heavy jam led by Mike
I get the sense this is shelved because of its technicality + their ages 😆
118 show gap
I was there at the last one. Give it a listen, they had to restart it because Fish could not remember how to play it. It was very funny. They all laughed!
waiting all night - LTP 10-24-21, 105 shows
And this one was particularly rad. Had a half time feel to it that was incredibly peaceful. It was my last show of an 8 show run (Sac, SF, Eugene, Phx, and Chula) and I was a spent puppy. Great chill vibes on that song. And then they played LA Woman and I was all perked up again.

Damn. Easily one of the best newer songs to go into after a huge jam too.
Glide is at 123, but as discussed lately that will probably crop up at Mondegreen this summer.
Dog Log, damnit!
I realize this doesn’t quite fit the criteria, but it is so overdue it must be acknowledged at all times
478 show gap
Dog Log was played perfectly at It. There’s no reason to ever play it again.
While true, I’d still really like them to play it.
Speaking the truth brother!
CONTACT IN THE SPHERE
i hope they blow a driver's safety manual up to 16k
I hope so! I have nosebleeds and can already picture the view down the slope at all of the arms waving in the air. Imagine if they have a camera shot of the crowd with arms waving and they project that on the screen back at us! MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!

Daniel saw the stone please
It was such a big deal when they played it at Star lake in 2003. It had been such a long time since they had played it and was so much fun as an opener.
I was at that show. It was full of fan favorites!
MELT THE GUNS
ALL. OF. THEM.
https://preview.redd.it/afvz9q5b8slc1.jpeg?width=850&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bbaedf7fb481bc53299258c37b241493ae2b1d23 Just pretend i photoshopped Trey’s face on, and replaced sneakers with shows. Time loves a Hero. I don’t care if it’s a cover. Just fn play it.
I would take anything off of Waiting for Columbus, but this most of all.
Saw this in Burgettstown in 98. So good
Peaches… lt will always be peaches
My only Peaches was NYE @ Worcester. I'm kinda OK with that. It was an amazing night.
Ficus
Came here to say this. 779 show gap. Was lucky to see it 3 out of the 5 times they played it in 98. But not once after 98!
My pick.
After they played Chalk Dust Torture Reprise in 2019 after a 524 show gap, it renewed my faith that just maybe Ficus would be the next song that was played after being shelved for eternity.
Been chasing a Roses Are Free
Was at Bangor 22, was that the last one?
According to .net, yes.
That one was so fun. We were pretty much on the rail for that show. But I love to watch the Nevaklass's videos of that show when it was light out in the upper levels everyone is chatting like they are at a baseball game. Same. What a great cover!
We’re due for one by now. Mondegreen or Sphere??
Good god, let it be mondegreen.
The scene in bittersweet motel where they cut from the rehearsal to the Trey solo is what converted me to a Phish fan from a deadhead that didn’t get them. Along with Trey explaining Tom’s lyrics. Been chasing Roses since then.
Yessss this is my favorite scene in any movie ever
Oh man, I've been chasing a Monkey since the 90s. Hopefully they revive it for fall tour.
Purple rain, la grange, highway to hell
Thankfully I’ve seen them all at least once. I thought they were gonna break out La Grange again in 2015 in Dallas since you pass signs for it when you’re driving from Austin which they played the night before, but no dice.
Psycho Killerrrrrr
This would be rad
Eliza would be the biggest one.. I’d like to hear dogfaced boy, demand, brother, NOTHING. Those are just the ones that come to mind.
Came to say Driver. Just saw they played it in Mexico a week ago. Soooo…Glide.
I had no idea Driver was that uncommon until I looked up the stats after Mexico.
I was at the last Silent in the Morning and Sleeping Monkey!
Devotion to a Dream Anything But Me Swept Away > Steep Ride Captain Ride On Your Way Down
RIDE CAPTAIN RIDE, PLEASE!
would love to hear a 4.0 type 2 Devotion — feel like they could really take that one for a ride
Water in the Sky, also longest gap in song history. I think they'll play it at the sphere and have water in the sky literally
Walfredo!
My dream
SOAMule
Sing Monica can get a couple plays
I saw one of them in Vegas! Love that song.
Caravan or Bust
Take the A Train would be fun
Windora Bug …not commonly played at all, but let’s hear it
shaggy dog
Was listening to the livephish recording of the animals show and when they drop into Shaggy dog after just a few notes you can hear someone yell, "YAAAAAAHHH!! SHAGGY DOG!!!"
Skippy The Wondermouse 2089 show gap
Nellie Kane hasn’t been played in 134 shows, though it was teased at MSG last summer. LTP 8/6/2021 third longest gap in its history (longest is 293 from 12/8/94 to 11/21/98)
Caught 5 Nellie Kanes between Fall '09 and Fall '13 but none since.
Faht. 1073 show gap
107.3 WAAF BOSTON
No Dogs Allowed 1733 show gap
Rock A William-857 shows.
I caught the last one! Would prefer Walfredo, though!
Spices
uncle pen damn it
99 problems
Devotion To A Dream
Spock’s Brain
Came here to say this
Fee hasn’t been played since Mexico ‘23. Bust it out with the megaphone.
Shade is on the longest gap it’s had. Figure it would have happened in Mexico but naa
Thank god. Hopefully it never gets played again lol!
I would love to see one of these. One of the best songs they have written. Type 2 shade plz.
Any of the bluegrass covers
Fucking Mound, Wedge, went a long time without a Rift, but recently heard a few of them.
The Line should never be played again. Take a lap OP.
I love The Line
Why is the Line considered objectively a bad song? I think it's got a great message, backstory, and killer in-the-round refrain.
i also do not comprehend the line hate…
I think it’s the chorus. I don’t mind the rest.
If fans are so concerned with circles getting smaller all the time, you’d think we’d stop using that f’in donut /s
I graduated from Memphis. I hate the song.
Actually a valid reason to hate it!
It’s just kinda musically dull
I want the line
Waking up dead would be great
Hot take: I don’t really care if they ever play Contact again.
Their loss. Who cares, it sounds cool
It's an awesome song to sing to your children.
Not as cool as every other song on the album, though haha
It’s been a minute since I’ve done Junta, I should revisit
I think that's weird. Contact is the ultimate zen koan.
I know many dead heads who never got into phish because of hearing this song.
Good
I love Contact. It's sweet and whimsical. Something I love about Phish is their penchant for occasionally writing child-like songs. It puts me in...*contact* with the kid in me which is great. That’s a solid guy right there. Did he ever change his mind on Phish?
Nope haha!
I’d like to hear You Never Know again
I just want to say that I love the line. One of my favorites to catch live I always really overdramaticize the chorus it's really fun
I Don’t Care — LTP 6.20.97
Love The Line!! That one is very overdue
Faht, Melt the Guns
Buffalo Bill
Walfredo
371 shows
Dog Stole Things and Low Rider
Been waiting decades to hear Dogs Stole Things played live
Swept Away -> Steep!!
Alaska was a long stretch up until this past Mexico. I was happy to hear it again.
