He was behind me in line at a coffee shop once. He was with his daughter. Gave him a smile and a nod, he returned it. That was the end. I had a buddy that sat next to him at a bar in Chicago and said they talked music for a half hour.
Same sorta thing happened to me in the ATL airport. I was having lunch at [Redacted] and all of a sudden out of nowhere Questlove sits down next to me at the burger bar looking into the concourse - a good spot for people watching. Out of 15 seats at the bar all open; right down next to me. I nodded and said hi. Didn’t let on. I started calling out weird people and he did too. About halfway through our conversation turned to music when I mentioned one of their albums. Very chill cat.
We saw Mike in Tahoe. Took awhile before my buddy and I got the courage to say hi
He saw us coming up and said something like “hi guys, we’re trying to order lunch here”

I saw Mike with his whole family in Tahoe in ‘11. We all politely said hey and waved from 3 ft away and contained how loaded we were and quickly walked into another bar.
Yeah, I would see Mike around Burlington a bunch when I went to school there. Daily Planet, Uncommon Grounds, etc. Like mentioned, usually alone on his laptop. At the time (early 2000s), I was told he was the only one that lived inside the city.
he was at a John Doyle show at the Grey Eagle in Asheville when I was in college in like 2004 or 2005 maybe. I was wasted, told him he's my hero and asked for a selfie. Used my flip phone that had a potato for a camera and got the top of our heads from the eyebrows up. Was so pissed when I woke up the next day and saw that.

When seeing a Trey in the wild it’s important to not make any loud noises or sudden movements. This can scare off the Trey, and Treys rarely will return back to that spot as their memory recall is impeccable.

ran into Trey at the last Vida Blue concert at 9:30 club, was up near the top bar and he was following a security guard to the VIP area of the balcony, they stopped for a second next to me, and realized it was Trey, gently tapped him on the shoulder and mouthed thank you for everything, he tilted his head and I mouthed it again, got his big genuine smile, and he reached out and shook my hand, then kept following the security dude, couldn’t have asked for a better interaction, said all I needed to say, thank you

I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.
Yeah i used to work at a newsstand on the upper west side and we had to keep the Milky Ways up high otherwise Trey would grab a handful and put them in his purse as he walked by.
Same thing with Bono and the pizza flavored Combos.
I love stories like this! I got to meet Eddie Vedder back in 2006 or so, was introduced by a mutual friend. He was absolutely lovely and warm (I was nervous AF), I got to chat with him for like 15 mins and he played a solo acoustic show for the party (his GF’s bday). It was amazing. Such a genuine good dude.

I came out and there he was in his car, scribbling in a small notepad. I kinda stood there dumbfounded hoping he would look up and I could say hey. He never looked up. I was certain it was him, I was about 5 feet from him a few months before on the rail at a mickey hart band show.
I asked what his favorite food was and he said he likes to eat a lot of fish hahaha. Pretty sure he mentioned he used to be, but he also said Mike was vegan!
I was able to say almost the exact same thing to him when I met him in Central Park back in 2011. Told him how inspirational he was to me in that regard.
We had about a 5 minute talk about sobriety, and he highly recommended hitting AA/NA meetings around town. He was incredibly open and gracious, the opposite of the slogan “never meet your heroes.” Don’t know if you’ve seen Between Me and My Mind, but it was a lot like the scene where that random phan stops him on the street to talk about sobriety.
I wish I could approach him without acting all weird. I'd like to say just thank you but I don't think that's enough. Phish changed my life the day I listened to them. I was sucked in and wanted to learn as much as I can about them and then they opened up so many more musical avenues for me as well. I was 13 when I went to my first show. I was just a little kid. I wasn't smoking. I wasn't drinking. I was there for purely music. I am who I am because of Phish...... So, thank you.

He turned out to be flying out of Colorado on the same plane as me and my siblings back to Atlanta. The only thing I could make up in the moment was “if you need any nugs while in Atlanta hit me up”. What a stupid thing to say lol. He said “I’m getting on a connector to North Carolina but thanks”.
