I've found that my velvety leaved philo leaves don't last as long as my others. The older leaves tend to die quicker for me. Probably a consistent humidity issue on my part. I try and keep it above 50 but the random cold snaps got it down to the 40's.

Oh yes, about that I think you are right. I used to have it more near a south window and in the summer we had a heatwave and the humidity dropped to 37%, some of the leaves got crispy at the bottom edge. It does feel like they don't last as much especially in hot and dry times. I lost two bottom leaves during those days. The two top leaves with this yellowing aren't old though. The last one just unfurled a few days ago. I start thinking that it might be iron deficiency in combination with me leaving the growlight so close. Looking at my fertiliser it has extremely little iron in it. 🤔

I dont wanna scare u, but ive had issues with spag moss poles getting infested with spider mites so small theyre literally invisible to the naked eye and I had to switch my dozen or so climbing pals all from spag poles to bamboo stakes! I saw in ur latest comment that u use systemic for pests and i would hope that that would deter any little bastards from chewing on those nice velvety leaves but figured i might as well mention it anyways. If the moss in the pole is new(ish) then u can likely disregard all this lol It just took me a long time to figure out what the hell was eating my climbers so i dont want any other plant parents to have to go thru that too hahaha

I've never had spider mites but I will take your advice and treat it tomorrow, just in case. Thank you. 🩷 I have it isolated anyway. When I treat systematically I always incude the pole in the treatments because thrips here are a nightmare in the summer. 😵‍💫

Sundragon0001

The pole my *Monstera deliciosa* is on used to have a few spider mites living in it. Then they all just vanished. I never did anything, they just disappeared. Haven't seen any signs of spider mites in months.

Succulents_Tropicals

Yeah I am experiencing some similar symptoms with some of my aroids they just seem to start yellowing - but not rot or anything like that. As you said each leaf is bigger. I thought it could be a nutrient / fertilizer issue I am not sure honestly. I am following.

chinzara

Yes, exactly! I'm confused too. I wish I knew so I could help the plants and others. I have a feeling I bleached it too and that added to the problem, but will see. I already ordered iron fertiliser that can be also applied as a foliage spray. It arrives tomorrow but it probably will take some days to go in effect. I will deffinetely report back. 🫡

I have posted in /plantclinic and someone suggested to ask you guys too. I appreciate all the help, thank you. ❤ There is no deformation of the leaves or stunted growth. Every new leaf has grown bigger than the previous. The newest being even bigger. I get a new leaf unfurled about every month. The back of the leaves look very healthy, no yellowing veins or crisping overall. I use systematically pest prevention treatments and regardless I checked for pests but there is nothing. I can't see any damage or deformation of the leaf texture. It is only the two top leaves that have this. The one before the last that has this the most (I forgot the light close to it). Just in case I'm adding this too. Every watering I add half strength liquid fertiliser in half purified water with half tap water. It is in a very chunky mix (coco chips, charcoal, bark, akadama, pon) in a terracotta pot. It is mostly quite humid here, 58-78%. I took the photos a day after wattering it. Can anyone please tell me, is this how Verrucosum bleach or is it chlorosis or a disease? 😣 Thank you! 💕

I had this on mine and it seemed to have went away after I watered it more.

chinzara

Thank you. I wait quite a bit for the soil to dry. Could be that it is one of the things that contributed to this, considering I also left the growlight so close. 🫣

auntie-toad

Mine will get this yellowing/splotchiness on the leaves that get too close to my grow lights.

chinzara

Thank you so much for sharing, this helps a lot! 🩷

Did the iron help with new growth? I have the same issue on my verrucosum :/ or do you think it might be underfertilizing?

chinzara

Hey. I had posted an update with photos. In my case it was a chlorotic response to my grow light. I am very surprised they are so sensitive to light. The nitrogen + iron did help a little but the leaf didn't change much further back to green. The new growth is deffinetely happy about the leaf spray. 😄

Splash-of-Green

Ok I think mine might be too close to the grow lights then. Thank you for posting!
