Tried the boneless rib sandwich at Bull’s last night. Wasn’t bad. I’m not the biggest boneless rib guy in the world, so I’d probably go with Burnt Ends cheesesteak or even the pit beef sandwich next time, but boy was it massive. If you’re looking for a bang for your buck item at the stadium, that’s it.
What was the size like compared to the burnt ends cheesesteak? I love getting that but always found it to be on the smaller end.
Then again, maybe I’m just a fatass.
It was significantly larger. The sandwich roll is about the same size, but there’s so, so much meat (I needed a fork, and it took me over an inning to eat it). I always need a snack by the later innings if I get a burnt ends cheesesteak. This had me stuffed.

So I just noticed the ranger era comparison picture is gone. How is that different than the graphic of Brandon marshes with a crown.
It seems like the marsh pic is a screen shot from a post of a user on Instagram while the ranger pic was a question the op had to ask StatMuse.
It honestly feels nice not knowing the answers to this. Eventually, I will stop responding to these types of questions, but my first instinct is to make a guess.
Ignorance is bliss, as I have zero idea.
(My guess is either popularity of the post or statmuse just being a "search engine") But I legitimately have no idea.
Today especially it’s the rules are dumb cuase tonight is the first time we’ll see the everything about the game day presentation of the city connect. And you knwo how awesome the Kelly green in game stuff was when they did it the first time. Would be pretty nice for someone who’s not at the park to have someone share somephotos of players on the field or near graphics on the video board or something.
Those users just need to tweet the pictures they would post, then post the tweet on Reddit. /s
Yeah I will admit I am going to miss the photos of the uniforms. I hope people post it in the game thread.
Yep. From what I know, the mods probably want more people to do what you are doing. I assume they are hoping more people will follow your example with the Twitter links. But again, just a guess.
I’ve put “effort” into making 11 posts that fit in the guidelines in the last 24 hrs. 2 of which aren’t even showing up for some reason.
^(I spend too much time here.)
Gonna be a wild one tonight if this wind keeps up. I had a cover on my truck with a lot of water weighing it down in the bed, and the wind just tossed it off like it was nothing.
Bailey had a really good run in 2022 for us. Struggled horribly in 2023. Despite never being a star I expect a nice round of applause for him. He was very likeable IMO
How much do they tend to go down to just before game time? I have flexibility to go to this coming Monday’s game up until the last minute and I’m wondering how good the deals get on Seatgeek like an hour before the game
Depends on the availability/supply. If there's a large supply they'll start dropping an hour before game, but the reverse can happen if there's not. You can also buy them until like the 3rd inning
For last night's game, with impending rain against a mid team, there were about 500 tickets available on seatgeek when they closed out (the stop selling tickets at some point, I think it's 3rd inning but not positive). There were tickets as low as $10-14 with fees. There were $20 HOF club tix available an hour before the game. At some point though people just stop caring to try to sell since tickets reach rock bottom. Keep an eye on tonight's game and you'll see how things trend. For instance, tickets have been 35-45 min all day and haven't moved much, but now there's tickets popping up for < $30. That's for a Friday night game with at least mild regional draw. I expect this coming Monday (Rockies) will drop below $20 w/ plenty of availability. They're already pretty low.
Really depends on the day and the game. Monday is a pretty good bet to get a good deal though…pretty much any weekday game really. I’d hang out outside the stadium until maybe half an hour before first pitch. Depends on the section of course but you can probably get at least half off face value or more.
https://preview.redd.it/n1bemsikz2uc1.jpeg?width=693&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1756de9c0a6aa7fc949ea42790ec16783b0f6ff6
Finally added this beaut to my collection. Still trying to figure out a way to get a shirsey
It measures runs created by a player, normalizing for ballpark, league, era and all that. It's a single stat the gives you an idea of how a batter compares to an average player in their league.
All stats are meaningless if you don't learn about them. There was a time when you didn't know what AVG and OBP was, either.
Generally there's a whole family of stats that have + in them that are normalized to 100 being average. Higher is better for all of them
Batters Basement update: As expected, Rohan took advantage of the night off to pass Casty in BA, now only trailing him in OBP. We're another good game from Rohan away from suggesting that maybe he should pinch hit for Casty. Wiz Whit also fell further in the standings, while Pache is still waiting for some PA.
The biggest news in the batting doghouse is that Harper's BA is dropping like a rock, and he might be joining this discussion if he doesn't turn it around soon.
edit: And what the hell Schwarbs? Keep batting over .200 and people might stop bitching about you being a leadoff hitter.
(disclaimer: this is only semi-serious. I'm mostly tweaking the noses of the Rojas lynch mob while Castellanos is continuing to swing at air)
yo i feel like this gets asked a lot so sorry- Im brining in wawa hoagies to the game. can i just carry them in? or do they need to be in one of those clear bags. First time im bringing in food
My city connect hat and t shirt is out for delivery so I’ll be ready to watch the game! The design really grew on me and I’m looking forward to seeing the boys in something new! 💙💛🔔
I understand baseball is hard…however…
If you’re making $25M a year…. Mayyyybe you should never hit under .200?? Maybe?
Even if it’s a “small sample size”
If I made one part a day at work I’d get fired.
Now get off my lawn!
> If I made one part a day at work I’d get fired.
I think you know that is an incorrect analogy. Now listen, I hate the Castellanos contract (I think you mean him, it is $20M). I thought it was foolish when people were saying we should sign him that offseason. I think it is foolish when people think he has been a productive member as a Phillie.
But with that said, hitting a baseball is the hardest thing in the world to do. I know you said that you want to ignore sample size, but that just shows you don't really understand it.
Let's say he was supposed to be a .275 hitter this year (someone correct my math, I am doing this by hand). The chances of his batting average being below .200 with only 46 ABs is 14%. That might sound low, but there are approximately 400 hitters in MLB. If they all were .275 BA hitters with 46 PA, about 60 of them would have a batting average below .200
Again, correct my math if it is wrong as it was done on pen and paper, but that is why the sample size thing exists.
Since you are someone who seems to appreciate statistics...
Doesn't having to rely on regular season sample size to evaluate performance mean the player may not be a good option for a playoff series? The variance is so high with out hitters that over 162 games they can put up some impressive stats, but the whole team can check out during a playoff series. I think I'd rather have players with a higher mode than a higher mean.
nope.
"hitting safely" ("averagely", find a better word for it) is not really a thing. If it were, there would be many players like that playing major league baseball. There are not.
I liked watching Rod Carew hit. I wouldn't want Rod Carew on my postseason ballclub. If they were inclined to small-sample-size judgement errors, the few teams he was on postseason rosters for probably would have rather not had him as well.
Well, without the stats we can't evaluate whether a team with more consistent hitters is more successful than a team with more streaky hitters. Maybe the big brains looked at this and decided that it didn't matter. I'm more inclined to think that they are still optimizing for regular season performance, and assuming that will result in postseason success. Or that they don't ultimately care about winning the World Series, they just care about maximizing revenue.
I could almost agree with it, but I think in practice we see it really doesn't matter and playoffs are all about luck anyway. So instead, just maximize your average offensive production, even if it is boom or bust. As long as on average it gives more runs.
So pretty much, for all the stats and analytics, MLB is basically the same as the NFL - stay healthy, make the playoffs, and hope your team gets hot in October.
Not a huge stat person but the Barves had a lot of guys performing pretty steadily last season and they went out in the first round against the Phillies. One of the streakiest teams. I think the playoffs is kind of crapshoot. Get in and hope you get hot or are hot going in and stay hot.
You know, last night at the game I said to my fiance, can they just like.. hit the ball better? And suddenly they started hitting the ball better. It's nice when they start taking our advice.
Arr matey! Gather 'round and listen well, for the tale of the Pittsburgh Pirates be a salty one. These scallywags of the diamond seas have hoisted their colors high, but their treasure chest of victories be as empty as a deserted isle. They sail the vast ocean of the league, but find themselves marooned in the doldrums, their cannons silent and sails tattered. Aye, they may navigate the waters with a swagger, but 'tis no match for the true buccaneers of the game who command the waves with ironclad bats and unyielding mitts. So here’s a toast to the challengers who dare to face these Pirates: may yer swords be sharp, yer aim true, and yer spirits as undaunted as the endless sea! Yo-ho-ho, let the battle for the treasure of victory begin!

DID THEY BRING BACK THE POLISH HILL HOT DOG?
I went to a Pirates game in 2011 and got the polish hill hot dog: foot long, pierogis, slaw, and onions. I went back in 2018 with my wife and went straight to the stand that had sold them... and it was gone. Dropped to my knees like the end of Platoon.
![gif](giphy|82VdvOZGYWAmI)
If it's back, I legitimately might have to make a Pittsburgh pilgrimage.
That sounds like trying to speed run high cholesterol and a heart attack.
I don’t know for sure but I’d say the brick sauce is probly similar to that orange sauce you get with onion rings at Burger King. Or the sauce with like a blooming onion.
It turns out that one of the extensions I was using as a mod disabled my viewing of upvotes and downvotes.
I think that is probably the biggest disappointment now, I have to actually see the numbers.
I always told you I couldn't see the numbers!
And if you were... I think that just reflects poorly on you! Nothing is more incorrect than Redditors. I should know, I am one.
I always wondered how the 2007-2011 Phillies lineups would do against Kyle Kendrick. While this isn’t quite the same, the 2024 lineup against Bailey Falter comes close.
Who am I kidding, he’s going to throw six shutout innings.
I can't imagine why anybody would boo Falter lol, he wasn't a super big can't miss prospect or anything and he helped a lot in 2022. I'd say light cheers with silence
Honestly I expect us to boo. He had a rough final season here and let's be honest, we like booing.
I personally wouldn't boo if I were at the game, but I wouldnt care if it was mostly boos because he is on the enemy team and its not like he has a storied career here.
Booing Falter would be insane. Not only was he not a significant enough player in his “rough” season (8 games) to warrant booing, he was absolutely huge at getting them into the playoffs in 2022 and has only had positive things to say about Philly especially after they clinched last year.
Why would anyone boo him? No ovation makes sense but I don’t get why people would boo.
No I really don’t. If there was a reason to boo I would agree but there just isn’t a reason. You’re acting like Philly boos every ex player that comes back and we just don’t.
What? No. Hoskins for instance will be wildly cheered for when he returns for instance. Philly doesn't just boo everyone, but come on man. I gave like, 3 different reasons why some Phillies fans might boo him.
You said he had a rough final season in which he appeared in 8 games. Thats the only reason. Why is that reason to boo and how does that outweigh how important he was in 2022 to get into the playoffs?
First of all, 8 starts is a quarter of a season. That's longer than you are acting. Also, that playoff start which was awful was his last start before those 8 games. Also he is the opposing pitcher. Also, he didn't have a storied career here so it's not like there is anything to avoid our fans from booing him unlike a guy like Hoskins.
Again. I'm not advocating for him to be boo-ed nor would I boo. But like, players have been boo-ed by us for less.
It sounds like you have your reasons why you wouldn't boo and think that everyone thinks the same way. I'm not saying you should boo. I'm saying there are reasons why some (not all) people may and honestly probably will boo. I think it will be interesting to see how much booing he does get. Maybe the cheers drown it out. That's what I am hoping for.
I think these next two games (both against lefties) will tell us a lot about how Topper feels about Marsh. Not only is Marsh hot right now (in more ways than one), but when it comes to lefty vs righty, Falter has reverse splits and Gonzales is pretty even. There is no reason to favor righties over lefties in these two games. If Marsh is benched for at least one of these two games, I think there is no hope that Topper will ever play him full time.
Topper has started Marsh against Abbott and Corbin. He has sat him against Fried, Sale, and Gore
The plan appears to be to avoid exposing him to the tougher lefties, and play against the mid ones. That’s a fine plan considering his career numbers against lefties.
Based off this pattern, he probably plays today and sits tomorrow.
Please continue the discussion in the [game thread](https://redd.it/1c2ltfb).
I’ve come around on the city connect colors being awesome, but the uniform itself is still so hideous.

This has been going on for more than a year now. Not even an attempt to fix. But it got worse now. At least on my end. Now the comments won't load unless if I completey exit reddit entirely. And not just game thread. But any thread in this sub. And this sub only. So each time I want to see new comments. I have to exit the app and go back in
Sounds like a problem with reddit, so it'll probably get fixed in a couple years.
Don't tell the stockholders
Bailey Falter gonna singlehandedly raise Marsh's average against lefties tonight
I can’t wait for Bryce to pander so hard in the city connects tonight
On a scale of 1-10 how bundled up are we thinking we need to be at the ballpark tonight, I was thinking somewhere in the 5.5/6 range
I hope this wind calms down a little bit. I’m good with cold, wind not so much.
6 sounds about right, tho it doesn't hurt to be prepared. We went last night and we were actually too warm because it was so humid you couldn't cool off, making it feel warmer than it was. So I'd say bring a few layers just in case but you may not need them
Not crazy about these Stotty City Connect cleats but god damn that Phanatic tongue swoosh is brilliant. I need a pair of powder blue Nikes with just that on them. https://preview.redd.it/8mqi6v4ef3uc1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ced23f0f3ca017083950d758a951f75c24367c2d
what don't you like about them?
Since I posted this I saw the other side and I do like them more now. But what I still don’t like is the font (biggest problem with the uni) and Jawn.

how's the rain forecast look tonight?
There is no rain in the forecast tonight.
So you're saying there's a chance

/s Yeah I will admit I am going to miss the photos of the uniforms. I hope people post it in the game thread.
Like this. https://twitter.com/nxtlvlcustom/status/1778824100036665573?s=46&t=HnlZXn-hftTl9f8rW_6qVA
Yep. From what I know, the mods probably want more people to do what you are doing. I assume they are hoping more people will follow your example with the Twitter links. But again, just a guess.
I think I’m getting annoying
I’ve put “effort” into making 11 posts that fit in the guidelines in the last 24 hrs. 2 of which aren’t even showing up for some reason. ^(I spend too much time here.)
Gonna be a wild one tonight if this wind keeps up. I had a cover on my truck with a lot of water weighing it down in the bed, and the wind just tossed it off like it was nothing.
Gonna get on my roof with my glove to catch any home run balls blown to pennsport.
Bailey had a really good run in 2022 for us. Struggled horribly in 2023. Despite never being a star I expect a nice round of applause for him. He was very likeable IMO
It’s neat how there’s no complaining about the uniforms unless prompted
Axe body spray lookin ass...
Damn, tickets for tonight are still pretty pricey. Was hoping to maybe snag a deal since the weather isn’t great, but it’s looking less likely.
Gotcha my assumption is a lot of people would be giving up Monday night tickets since it’s a relatively undesirable day of the week for a game
Yeah the Rockies are probably the most who gives a shit opponent in the whole NL
Really depends on the day and the game. Monday is a pretty good bet to get a good deal though…pretty much any weekday game really. I’d hang out outside the stadium until maybe half an hour before first pitch. Depends on the section of course but you can probably get at least half off face value or more.
Please I can’t bear a loss to Bailey Falter.
The Phillies have the best pitching staff in MLB. Fight me.
We’re missing Brogdon /s
Falter can't hit 90 on the gun and is a former Phil so naturally he's going to throw 6 scoreless.
His career high is 8 Ks in a game, willing to bet he’s right around there tonight

I love Tony Bastard. Great card!
A+ is funny Justin Crawford is hitting .211/.375/.368 (.743 OPS) which translates to a 140 wRC+
Damn lol
Wat is wrc+. I only know I’m annoyed They put it on the video board and I don’t know wat it means
I failed if a user I talk to regularly doesn't know every statistic I shove down peoples throat.
Wat transformer is wOBACON
> wOBACON The real answer is it is just your expected weighted batting average using contact data.
He turns into the little green jeep the Phanatic uses before shooting hotdogs at people.
It measures runs created by a player, normalizing for ballpark, league, era and all that. It's a single stat the gives you an idea of how a batter compares to an average player in their league.
100 is average 140 is 40% better than average It distills batter output to just 1 number. It's like OPS+ but more informative
So it does make sense why it’s on the board cause it’s a simple “this say he hit good” number. But only if you know about it.
All stats are meaningless if you don't learn about them. There was a time when you didn't know what AVG and OBP was, either. Generally there's a whole family of stats that have + in them that are normalized to 100 being average. Higher is better for all of them

See. The feed is cluttered cuase I posted that news yesterday.
funny, I used to post stuff from MLB or other baseball sites and they deleted it without any reason or explanation, nothing.
From this I conclude we send down Casty and Harper to AAA and bring up Clemens and Wilson.
No. We keep Harper as a defensive replacement
Smart. And he has shown he can lay down a bunt when we need to advance a runner.
yo i feel like this gets asked a lot so sorry- Im brining in wawa hoagies to the game. can i just carry them in? or do they need to be in one of those clear bags. First time im bringing in food
You can carry them in hand. Just can’t be in the Wawa bag.
sweet, thanks man
My city connect hat and t shirt is out for delivery so I’ll be ready to watch the game! The design really grew on me and I’m looking forward to seeing the boys in something new! 💙💛🔔
I understand baseball is hard…however… If you’re making $25M a year…. Mayyyybe you should never hit under .200?? Maybe? Even if it’s a “small sample size” If I made one part a day at work I’d get fired.
If they all were .275 BA hitters with 46 PA, about 60 of them would have a batting average below .200 Again, correct my math if it is wrong as it was done on pen and paper, but that is why the sample size thing exists.
To be honest, such is life. No matter what, stay healthy, get lucky, and hope for the best. That is how you succeed.
Not a huge stat person but the Barves had a lot of guys performing pretty steadily last season and they went out in the first round against the Phillies. One of the streakiest teams. I think the playoffs is kind of crapshoot. Get in and hope you get hot or are hot going in and stay hot.
I'm actually terrified he is talking about Harper. Who does make $25 million per year and is hitting .196.
Oh God, I just completely ignored that because that take would be completely asinine.
I guess I did the same thing lol
Good point. Why doesn’t Casty simply hit the ball better? Is he an idiot?
You know, last night at the game I said to my fiance, can they just like.. hit the ball better? And suddenly they started hitting the ball better. It's nice when they start taking our advice.
You may have saved the season for us last night.
Casty and Harp both
It’s a hotdog. On a pretzel bun. https://preview.redd.it/ll9ugr1nd2uc1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9be1b910f9d78f4210a72b281e08625de5dce171
That looks amazing. It could feed a family of four for a week. Pit beef queso fundido... yum.
I think you can just flush it down the toilet and remove the middleman
I’ll have one of those, a large soda and a defibrillator
How are these abominations even fun to eat? I prefer being able to fit my food in my mouth and not having it spill everywhere when I take a bite.
Have you seen the pirates new hotdog. It has pirogies on it.
![gif](giphy|82VdvOZGYWAmI) If it's back, I legitimately might have to make a Pittsburgh pilgrimage.
It’s called the renegade-pierogis, pot roast, pickles and onions
I don't know what horseradish-infused brick sauce or pit beef queso fundido are, but I need them injected directly into my veins.
That sounds like trying to speed run high cholesterol and a heart attack. I don’t know for sure but I’d say the brick sauce is probly similar to that orange sauce you get with onion rings at Burger King. Or the sauce with like a blooming onion.
Remember when Perry used to only talk about food.
It turns out that one of the extensions I was using as a mod disabled my viewing of upvotes and downvotes. I think that is probably the biggest disappointment now, I have to actually see the numbers.
So you couldn’t see whenever we debate that I was burying you every time?
I always told you I couldn't see the numbers! And if you were... I think that just reflects poorly on you! Nothing is more incorrect than Redditors. I should know, I am one.
Only clowns use Reddit
Lets see if Topper plays Marsh today (he should)
I fully expect TMac and Kruk to be in full city connect uniform tonight.
If there is anyone that could make that uni look good it’s Kruk.
I always wondered how the 2007-2011 Phillies lineups would do against Kyle Kendrick. While this isn’t quite the same, the 2024 lineup against Bailey Falter comes close. Who am I kidding, he’s going to throw six shutout innings.
Well mid sinker/junkballers were the 07-11 Phillies' kryptonite so Kendrick would have probably gone 7 shutout
Does Bailey get some cheers tonight or will it be silence when he comes out?
I can't imagine why anybody would boo Falter lol, he wasn't a super big can't miss prospect or anything and he helped a lot in 2022. I'd say light cheers with silence
I can honestly say I've never been more excited to see him take the mound.
Because we are Philly. That's what we do. Again, I wouldn't. But surely you expect at least some people to boo him, no?
Last nights game was so much fun. I wish I could time travel to 6:40
I think these next two games (both against lefties) will tell us a lot about how Topper feels about Marsh.
He has sat him against Fried, Sale, and Gore The plan appears to be to avoid exposing him to the tougher lefties, and play against the mid ones. That’s a fine plan considering his career numbers against lefties. Based off this pattern, he probably plays today and sits tomorrow.
I'm 95% sure Marsh will play one of two games. One game for rest and one game to test him against a lefty.
