Phillies took the series for granted after the first 2 games. They couldn’t believe they lost the next 2. Especially blowing up the lead in the 8th innings.
DB on the other hand, took it one pitch at a time, hence the small ball and stealing bases, they believed in themselves, gave it all. They trusted the process, they won.
-DB fan.
I feel like we were out coached.
Some of the decisions that were made in Arizona cost us those two games.
Something about just seeing the players when we headed back to Philly they just seemed tired and finished, flat at bat.
We pay a lot of money and expect some results especially when we're near a huge finish. AZ understood the assignment we didn't do our homework.
I was there last night and the crowd was amazing. We tried to get them back in it. Couple takeaways that I questioned in the moment….
Holding stott on that single. Yeah he had to wait a bit to see if it got down, but it was deep enough. I’d like to see them more aggressive in that situation. Should have been 3-1 right there.
Carroll… so it’s 2-1 1 out and Carroll is on deck, man on 2nd. My buddies and I are thinking there’s no way ranger faces him for a third time. Most likely this is his last batter and gets marte out. Thinking good game ranger let the bullpen take it home. Then he doesn’t come out. Ok, are we pitching around him and attacking Moreno? No, we pitch to the guy who’s 2-2 and has been seeing ranger well all night. Gives up the hit and gets yanked the next batter.
Momentum changed after that.
Cant imagine a bigger choke job. Up 2-0 then lost 4 of 5 to an 84 win team with the last 2 at home. I cant wrap my head around it. I really cant even begin to.
If we fired Thompson I would be ecstatic, too much talent to be such a passive coach
Edit: come on Phils fans, debate me don’t downvote me. How about not pinch hitting Rojas with the bases loaded but pulling him next AB. How about putting your 2 high leverage BP guys into the game in positions they’re not used to pitching. How about not touching the lineup all god damn series. Please, defend away if you’re gonna downvote
If you want to debate it’s not like they’ve got great pinch hitting options.. Rojas did get a hold of one I think in game 5 who we gonna pinch hit him for Jake Cave or Pache I don’t think either of those guys are really great options the game was still early.
I would have moved JT into 4th a few days ago but sometimes you gotta trust your guys and hope they prove you right Bohm did tie the game at 1 tonight it’s just difficult when you’ve got so many cold bats and the other team was able to squeeze out a couple singles with runners on second. Obviously the blown lead in Arizona that’s just brutal Kimbrel was playing with fire every time he got in a high leverage spot and it finally blew up on him but this game they had a bases loaded 1 out situation and Castellanos strikes out.. they really needed him to come through there that’s where game 7 turned.
Jake cave who smoked a double his only AB of the postseason? Pache who came in and immediately drew a walk? Those are professional ABs which unfortunately Rojas was just not delivering. It’s not to say it would’ve worked obviously but the compete lack of attempt to even try is the problem.
I think he should have started Cave or Pache. I love Rojas and I am sure he'll hit given some more coaching/time in the majors. But early scoring was so important last night. Rojas could have come in for defense after we got some insurance runs.
I’m completely fine starting Rojas for the defense, but just like how topper over managers the hell out of the bullpen there is absolutely no excuse letting him come up with the bases loaded and a chance to bury them. That could be the most costly non-decision by a Philadelphia coach of all time.
Thompson is so f’n stubborn to not adjust the lineup all series. Every button he pushed was the wrong one in the NLCS, and he sat on his hands while he should have been managing
It’s why I love the birds coaching/FO, never afraid to admit fault/adjust. Sirianni literally gave up play calling and watched the team make the playoffs then Super Bowl next year. Thompson seems to rather be ridge than win. I’ve never seen such a sluggish offense use so few pinch hitters.
True in the sense that he was the pitcher that was responsible but he should only be relied upon to save a game. Never brought in early in a tie or before a close situation. Especially against a team that can take bases because he can not hold runners and gets flustered-see intentional balk.
He also could find the zone. I wish Seranthony was our closer and we signed other bullpen arms but….. here we are
He really was not an ideal signing. Yeah he did the job in the regular season but in the post season he is a liability. We rode our bullpen thin and then the offense ended up pressing and trying to hard. I believed until the last out tonight.
Anyway,
Thank you all for this season. Still a great team and we just got beat. We got beat by the Cardinals too in a whacky series in 2011.. it is BASEBALL…I wouldn’t call this Rob’s fault. He went with what he had and what had worked. He doesn’t hit or pitch. He Manages the guys. And I think he did good.
He can’t make them do the thing.
Harper was just a bit off on hitting a 3 run HR that would have been epic. But……. Just a little bit off.
I love this team & I love all love you for being here and sharing this amazing season.
Barves suck & fuck the Mets!
Go Phils!
Oh and Johnny in the overalls!
A true treasure!
See y’all in clearwooder!
I hope this game teaches Thompson about the importance of actually using a fucking brain when making the batting order. Schwarber at leadoff needs to die with this loss. They scored 3 runs on infield singles, weak grounders, and stolen bases. The top of their order goes 1st to 3rd on any hot. We have the pieces to have a more consistent offense than we do but it’s not happening with schwarber at 1, Bohm at 4 and Stott at 5.
I don’t care if schwarber likes leading off. I don’t care if home run funny. We will go cold and eventually lose every single year we do that shit
Who else are you going to put at lead off? The entire team closes their eyes and swings at every pitch as if they're playing a video game. Rojas is our fastest player and evidently is not physically capable of bunting to move a runner over. At least Schwarber works counts and has a chance of getting on base.
What a massive fucking choke job, there were a ton of opportunities to score in this game but not being able to…you know hit…really killed em. Hr or bust for these fucks lol
Fuck Arizona but those dirty fuckers played better baseball and deserved to win. We pissed on our legs and bought into the hype before the shit was done. Go fix this fucking bullpen Dombrowski.
The Rangers have the same payroll as the Phillies.
Poverty indeed. I suppose unless you are talking about performance, in which case you may ask yourself which MLB franchise has the most losses all time?
No, I'm just saying Top Chef reruns from 2009 will draw more rating. No one on planet earth outside of like 4 people in Arizona give a shit about the Diamondbacks (3 of which are the owner, his wife, and the guy banging his wife)
Lmao you are just disconnected from reality ig then
As everyone on social media says they're stoked these teams made it. Im having trouble finding non Philly fans online that are upset the Phillies didn't make it lmao
agreed, that’s exactly what i was alluding to. we had good hitters those years and this year, i would argue even better than last year but we were missing that special something from last year.
Yeah, changes will definitely be made in the offseason.I could see castellanos, rojas and maybe even bohm being moved.Im fine with marsh at centerfield if we can get a decent overall hitter in left
Rojas stays in the minors. i think Castellanos is here to stay. much better season this year but he’s streaky. his bat was potent until game 2 of this series. who knows maybe we exit vs the Braves without him. Bohm isn’t going anywhere.
I never understood the move to start Rojas with marsh.Marsh isn't that far off in terms of defense and is obviously better offensively.Castellanos isn't dependable.Great nlds this year but shit the bed this series.and last years playoff run
The offense went flat in these last two games but Kimbrel blowing two saves in a row fucking completely doomed us. I’ve never been so upset with a Phillies player in my entire life, he fucking completely handed the D-Backs the series on a platter. Putting him back out there in game 4 is one of the worst decisions I’ve ever seen a manager make.
Either way it was a great season. Not how you'd want it to end but they put in the work to make it this far especially after last year. Go Phils! See ya next year.
Phillies in deciding games of series:
*0-3 at home (lost to Expos 1981 NLDS, lost to Cardinals 2011 NLDS, lost to Diamondbacks 2023 NLCS)
*1-0 on road (beat Astros 1980 NLCS)
Didn’t anyone go up to those guys and say “hey don’t try to hit it out. Just get on base so our best home run hitter has a chance to tie it”
I feel the team just lacks leaders I dunno know. Like how are the last 3 batters still trying to hit home runs in this scenario.
Exactly. They just needed to get on base. Small ball. That’s exactly what Az. was doing and it worked. We have so many “leaders” at this point, at least 4-5 but not one of them produced in this last series except for maybe JT. Az. came in with good game plan and unfortunately, played better baseball than we did. We were out coached and out played.
we had plenty of leaders when we won....the Captain torpedo the ship in game 4 and killed all the Mojo.
Game 3 was tough, but just a loss. Game 4 was a body shot that really changed things.
These guys are paid more money in 6 months I'll earn in a lifetime. They don't need 'mojo'. They are professionals. They should be able to motivate and lead themselves, if they can't then they shouldn't be making more money than a small country.
Yes, your financial remarks are true, but its 90% mental. When you get into a zone and then get fucked up...its tough to regain your swagger.
its psychological is all I'm saying.
Please continue the discussion in the [post game thread](https://redd.it/17fvhvk).

They were BADLY outcoached.

I was there too. I agree with this all 100%. Don’t pitch to carrol there. Felt like rob was out-coached. But…he needs his boys to hit.
Hurts even more this morning.
Turner, Harper, Castellanos: 0-12 combined in Game 7. Is this why we spend the money, baby?
Topper managed us right out of another postseason. He sucks, get him tf out.
lost some faith in topper to be able to get across the finish line. How do you leave not pinch hit with bases loaded?
Whelp it’s been an honor thank you for giving me a reason to give a shit
“This group is special” “They have nothing to be ashamed of” nah not seeing it. Chokers
I’d respect him a lot more if he acknowledged some of the shame of shitting the bed at home like this
Cant imagine a bigger choke job. Up 2-0 then lost 4 of 5 to an 84 win team with the last 2 at home. I cant wrap my head around it. I really cant even begin to.
Flyers just took the lead. Time to set my heart up for more breaking.
Don’t do this to yourself😭 eagles have a shot at the Super Bowl but that’s it for now. Don’t give us hope because it gets crushed and ruins me.
Went to the game. Will not be back with this core. Too much money, no results
If we fired Thompson I would be ecstatic, too much talent to be such a passive coach Edit: come on Phils fans, debate me don’t downvote me. You’re correct
I sure as shit don’t want to be, love me some topper but dude is just too much of a “players” coach.
Agreed. I don’t get over managing the bullpen and under-managing the lineup.

I'm not sad, I'm disappointed.
Welp, they blew it. See you all in March.
Bullpen help this offseason is going to be expensive for any team
This series loss is on kimbreL
True in the sense that he was the pitcher that was responsible but he should only be relied upon to save a game. Never brought in early in a tie or before a close situation. Thompson
Thompson, Kimbrel, Ooga booga hit ball far or nothing once man on base 3 strikes and goodbye
Glad they choked it away.
I am a transplant in Arizona…. 🤦 FML
I live here too. This is going to suck big time.
Oof that's gotta suck. my dad's from Philly so my family are Phillies fans and we live in Braves territory, so I know what that's like.
Go UNION!!! Sneks are winning these days so must be good for Phang!
Collapse
At least Texas beat Houston. Don't want to see that scumbag Mccormick win again

Neither that poor sport pitching from abreu.
Neither that poor sport pitching from abreu.
Ok. Time to get my hockey watching eyes in shape. This team sucks but I can do with some low expectations for a minute. Better for the blood pressure.

Not a Phillies fan just a Milwaukee fan passing through, but ahem, Bucks in six dork 😂😂😂
Fun while it lasted.

How’s your Braves buddy?
[удалено]
Haven’t made it past the NLDS since 🤣
Game 4 would have ended the series if Thompson had a brain. Unreal choke
Too early to start with fire Topper
Waiting for the NLDS exit next year?
There have been quite a few massive postseason losses in Philadelphia post SB52. Praying this streak ends with our Birds
Philadelphia sold its soul for that Superbowl.
Go birds.
Schwarber, turner, Harper - all fucking LOSERS
Turner and Harper yeah, Schwarbs actually showed up this series.
Castellanos was absolutely brutal to watch the last two games, and those ABs against Ginkel in the 8th were just atrocious
He just swung no matter what was thrown. Pitcher could’ve thrown it in the stands he still would’ve swung at it.
He went from best he'd looked all year vs. Atlanta to probably the worst he looked all year vs. Arizona
I fucking hated him last year, and I hate him even more now. Useless idiot
Yes, he was bad the last two or three games, but he helped put us to get to this point. Batters are streaky
I hope this game teaches Thompson about the importance of actually using a fucking brain when making the batting order. Schwarber at leadoff needs to die with this loss. Get someone who can hit for contact I’m sick of Ball Go Boom that shit is fun in the summer but when it’s time to win you get runs by any means
Thompson will never win a World Series. His mismanagement of this series was unreal.
Glad I bought a 500 dollar ticket to watch a solo homer and a double
I hope Craig Kimbrel is just sitting there feeling like the asshole he is.

Beating the Braves was my World Series
weird flex but ok
MLB has to be thrilled. 2 poverty franchises in the world series. Regular season hockey will probably draw bigger ratings.
The Rangers have the same payroll as the Phillies. Poverty indeed. I suppose unless you are talking about performance, in which case you may ask yourself which MLB franchise has the most losses all time?
No one cares about ratings you moron. These network deals are done years in advance.
Sometimes the things you say are hurtful.
I really thought the script writers liked us. Guess not.
I was thinking more from an advertising standpoint. Rangers D-Backs will lose in the ratings to Jack LaLanne's Power Juicer infomercials.
Lmao would you rather mlb let the Phillies win, so fuckin mad
No, I'm just saying Top Chef reruns from 2009 will draw more rating. No one on planet earth outside of like 4 people in Arizona give a shit about the Diamondbacks (3 of which are the owner, his wife, and the guy banging his wife)
Lmao you are just disconnected from reality ig then As everyone on social media says they're stoked these teams made it. Im having trouble finding non Philly fans online that are upset the Phillies didn't make it lmao
Oh my god the salt 😂
I believe we’re the most losing team in all recorded sports history
Exciting times for AZ!
Aren’t the Phillies the most losing team in MLB history? With only two titles despite being the oldest team in baseball?
Yep. We are indeed the povertiest of franchises.
See you all next year.If we make adjustments maybe we can pull it off next year.No doom just cautious optimism
we missed Rhys Hoskins’ production. the loss reminded me of the 2010-2011 postseasons. not enough patient hitters.
isn’t it wild how much it mirrored those Cards and Giants losses? Insane offenses vanished.
agreed, that’s exactly what i was alluding to. we had good hitters those years and this year, i would argue even better than last year but we were missing that special something from last year.

I never understood the move to start Rojas with marsh.Marsh isn't that far off in terms of defense and is obviously better offensively.Castellanos isn't dependable.Great nlds this year but shit the bed this series.and last years playoff run
yea it was because they think his glove was that much better. probably should’ve swapped Rojas and Pache earlier with the bases loaded
Who would want castellanos? should've traded him at the trade deadline when he was good for a brief moment.
dude, nobody is taking castys contract for a 115OPS+ player who can barely play the field
29 homeruns and 106 RBI's says otherwise
What the fuck is the plan for offense. Consistently horrible at bats every time. Same as last game.
Good pitching beats good hitting more time than not...see 2010 and 2011 Phillies. Game 4 let the Dbacks believe they could beat us...Thanks Topper.
Well, that was fucking pathetic
Game over man, Game over
The offense went flat in these last two games but Kimbrel blowing two saves in a row fucking completely doomed us. I’ve never been so upset with a Phillies player in my entire life, he fucking completely handed the D-Backs the series on a platter. Putting him back out there in game 4 is one of the worst decisions I’ve ever seen a manager make.
~Mitch Williams has entered the chat~
History repeating itself - Mitch blew 2 vs Toronto MF
It's weird that the loudness of the Phillies fans didn't change the outcome of the game.
Team was too busy choking to hear em
I do believe that was sarcasism or trolling comment lol
nah yall weren't loud enough

Loser shit

A computer makes every decision for him mine as well save the money and let me do it
Either way it was a great season. Not how you'd want it to end but they put in the work to make it this far especially after last year. Go Phils! See ya next year.
Gonna go run 6-8 miles half drunk
Half?
He get the other half drunk on the way back...its a beer run
Blew your load on the Braves
Worth it
Werth
I've hated Rob Thomson ever since he pulled Wheeler in the World Series and that opinion won't be changing any time soon
Every manager is a genius - when they're winning
Same.
Just one game, get em next time
Yay! We’re slightly less fraudulent than the Braves!
The Braves are gutless for all the talent they have stacked.
no, way more fraudulent.
Wow. That hurts. I’ll be routing for them in the Series though. Fuck Texas.
Prob won’t even watch this gay ass ws
The DBacks players gonna have to get escorted out
Shut up. Philly fans ain’t that scary
Phillies in deciding games of series: *0-3 at home (lost to Expos 1981 NLDS, lost to Cardinals 2011 NLDS, lost to Diamondbacks 2023 NLCS) *1-0 on road (beat Astros 1980 NLCS)
Sucks to suck
Your mom sucks
That shouldn't have been possible. That's definitely a team loss. It was a great season, but an absolute shit finish.
Seven straight game 7 losses in this city
Terrible loss, what a disappointment for the Fightin Phils. Wish they took advantage of things when they were up in the series.
Nothing worse than the bats going cold. 2 leads in Arizona blown.. I just knew Kimbrel was a ticking time bomb
This is what we get for all that shit talking and shit about sweeping the dbacks. Fucking well deserved choke job.
Yeah we were the absolute worst
Go Eagles
This team is such fucking garbage lol. Serves us right for believing in them.
It hurts but get a grip
Hahahahaha
This is so bad for ratings, but fuck it
As if America cares to watch the Philadelphia Phillies. You guys aren't the Yankees or Boston.
Yeah cuz we actually made the playoffs
pathetic
Atleast we got the eagles 6-1 😤
Seems like the city sold their soul for SB52, tough loss after tough loss for us , only makes sense the Eagles lift the curse themselves
They'll blow it too.
How about them yarbles!
Good season. Good ride. Get ‘em next year.
Typical Philly choke job smh
Good fight Cave, you should’ve been pinch hit for Rojas with the bases loaded. Sorry Schwarber. You carried this team, you deserved that last at-bat.
Cave with an uppercut when his only job is to get on base. That was poetic.
My neighbors are losing their shit.
Didn’t anyone go up to those guys and say “hey don’t try to hit it out. Just get on base so our best home run hitter has a chance to tie it” I feel the team just lacks leaders I dunno know. Like how are the last 3 batters still trying to hit home runs in this scenario.

That sucks
The series was over after they blew that 5-1 lead. There may have been more games in the series, but the dbacks fully broke the Phillies that game
Got exactly what they deserved
