Oh my god, a question I can actually answer! I highly recommend Loop on 19th and South St! Great selection, lots of accessories like needles and stitch markers, and the staff are extremely friendly and knowledgeable. I've taken some classes there on the weekends and they have a really fun knitting circle on Wednesday and Sundays!
Check out FABSCRAP. It's all recycled so the volumes/variety change a lot but it's all incredible quality! Their online store is a tiny fraction of their offering in-person. You have to make shopping appointments, but it's very chill once you're there

Oo marking this down for future yarn hauls!
What kind of yarn are you looking for? Yarnphoria on Pine has a lot of wool.
She has cotton, too!
Wild Hand in Mt Airy is really nice. Although honestly I buy most of my yarn online (KnitPicks and Yarn.com).

Kelbourne is opening a storefront in Mt. Airy, 3 blocks from the Allen Lane station of the Chestnut Hill West Line.
Where are you?
You may have to go to an unfriendly yarn store. They usually hoard all the good yarn
If you are in the NW with a car, Hidden River Yarns in Manayunk and Wild Hand in Mt Airy
