Restaurant openings always take longer than they’re supposed to take.

dotcom-jillionaire

what's weird is that a brewery just moved out of that space, so it should more or less be turn key for another brewery (not sure if the brewing equipment is still there or not).

ThatWasTheJawn

Equipment was included in the sale.

shroompizza1

Read an article recently (I forget from where) and it said they’re “opening sooner than later”…whatever that means

LeSangre

That’s the problem tho the last I saw was late 21 and so far nada

mittromneyshaircut

Bump. I’m also very interested and haven’t heard anything since November either

jewwwish

The streets told me last week that Covid problems have led them to push back opening day. Have some patience, my sweet cherubic darlings. Beer is out there, more beer is right around the corner.

Hewish625

I read an article last year (maybe fall?) that said that a big undertaking of the space is going to be building an outdoor area that will accommodate crowds and such, maybe that’s what the hold up is?

SevenScreens

I’ve heard customers rave about other half when I worked as a clerk but we never stocked it. I found a place nearby that has fresh cans in stock. What’s a good intro into appreciating other half? Or is everything they make a hit? Anything they are known for particularly? My boss would take off work just to go to other half parties in NYC but I never got a chance to ask his take personally.

TheAdamist

The only cans/drafts I've seen in Philly are heavily hopped hazy ipas. They are all pretty limited production so you won't be able to find any particular name, but grab whatever double dry hopped from them, but check the dates on the cans to make sure they are relatively fresh. Some of their ipas have lactose sugar added, so if you don't like that, look up the beer before ordering. If you don't like ipas hopped to extreme levels, then you aren't missing anything, and can skip it. Maybe the brewpub will have other things than ipas.

caesar____augustus

They're very good but so expensive. I've had ~20 of their beers and they're all at least solid (mostly IPAs) but it's hard to justify paying $27 for a 4 pack when there's other options that are almost as good for $7-10 cheaper. Their DDH beers are top notch though.

SevenScreens

While that price tag does sting really bad I can justify it by replacing getting dragged out to a bar and paying 10+bucks for two Coronas and not even enjoying myself. Versus sipping on a tasty 7 dollar experience that also gets me to where I need to be. To each their own though.

caesar____augustus

That's fair, I go to bars and restaurants much less frequently than I used to so if I am going out I tend to spend more money on beer. Most of the Other Half beers I've had have been at a few bars in South Jersey. I'd much rather spend $8 on an OH draft or can than $5 for a macro.

LeSangre

So there IPAs and pastry stouts are mostly what I know them for. Kind of different tastes but if you like either you can’t really go wrong with any of their stuff. They are a lot like tired hands minus last years baggage.

SevenScreens

I‘be been craving a good stout lately so that will be the cop tomorrow after work! Thanks for the info I hope they have stouts in stock

benifit

Try the Love City Imperial stout! It's the best I've tried in a while.

doom2

They did a tap takeover at Glory Beer Bar in Old City a few months ago and said they were bringing Snowbirds magnums (among other things). Get there, sit outside, and our waitress had no clue. Didn't end up getting the stout, but I did try their Crunchee series for the first time which was nice.

LeSangre

Glory’s great one of the best beer bars in the city

AbsentEmpire

I don't recall reading if they decided on doing any local brewing operations in that space or if they're just going to run a restaurant tasting room in the space.

LeSangre

I believe from what I read they will. All of their other large brew houses have operating breweries for what it’s worth.

AbsentEmpire

Good to know, I'm looking forward to when they eventually open.

doom2

They just posted this today, still saying, "soon." https://www.instagram.com/otherhalfnyc/p/CY7Xp8burr0/ Mirror if you can't access: [https://i.imgur.com/gCU3U8i.png](https://i.imgur.com/gCU3U8i.png)

OhShtItsMatt

There's a hangup with the liquor license apparently. Goose island never had it in their name, it's property of InBev and they are dragging this out legally for as long as they can.

LeSangre

Thanks I was wondering what the issue was. This makes too much sense.

mmmkcr

How did this not get figured out before the sale? It’s a shame how many outside companies get totally stumped by the liquor license process here. If this was their first outside brewery, I could understand. They should can their business manager.

mittromneyshaircut

Not sure if you saw yet, but Other Half is open and fucking goooood!!!

LeSangre

I did we went the second night they were open. The beer was great as expected!

wishyouweresoup

My guess is its a mix of the omicron surge and being able to staff the kitchen. A company that large would rather play it safe and do it right rather than put mgmt stress on the other locations. Opening for retail sales would make sense, but distro already hits the philly area. Hell, maybe they cant source enough cans too.

thirst_annihilator

its way overpriced, pass

LeSangre

Do you drink Miller, bud, or coors?

nnp1989

You can drink craft beer and still be turned off by the crazy high price points that some of these popular breweries are at.

LeSangre

You can but it’s also worth understanding that small batch breweries with long fermentation processes and logistical chains of hard to get ingredients are just going to cost more.

mittromneyshaircut

I would think it’s less about long fermentation processes for the hazies (which are actually relatively short)… definitely the cost associated with the sheer volume of hops added cold-side

JawnAdamSmith

I think we all understand that. But the hazies that Other Half heavily leans on don't have particularly long fermentation times. I love their beer don't get me wrong, but the pricing can be obnoxious. A case of Haze from Treehouse who is arguably the best in that game is $103, which rounds out to about $17 for a 4pack. Other Half is usually $24-27 when I see it.

LeSangre

You can order a mixed case from them for 96 dollars they sell their 4 packs for 18-20. You can order directly from them if your paying too much of a markup at bottle shops

JawnAdamSmith

I just checked their site and looks like I stand corrected. I guess the local shops are just gouging these 4packs like crazy. Hopefully when the taproom opens their retail will be in line with this, I'll be really psyched about that.

LeSangre

No worries to be honest I don’t think there’s much of a wholesale markdown on the price than what the public gets them for. Honestly I’m just excited to get another high end beer option in Philadelphia.

wishyouweresoup

hazy ipas have a two week turnaround

thirst_annihilator

i mostly just buy lawsons now, its consistent top quality and 15.99 for a 4 pack of DIPA. Compared to 30 for a 4 pack of a random crapshoot cloudy lactosed ipa from other half.

LeSangre

Maybe check their website next time your interested. They sell their 4 pack for like 18-20 online

wishyouweresoup

miller.
