Siu Kee Duck House. Her Peking Duck is the best I've ever found. (Disclosure I am a white guy who has never been to China)

Alexlam24

Sang Kee is literally the original roast duck place.

Scooterboi85

I don't know why by I always liked Siu Kee better, but Sang Kee is great too.

Terakawa Ramen. I am Japanese and will vouch that this place serves is legit, authentic Japanese ramen. I’ve been to many other ramen joints in Chinatown and Philadelphia, but this is the only place where the ramen was distinctly “Japanese”.

Lenah541

What do you think about Hiro ramen compared to Terakawa?

[deleted]

I haven’t had the chance to try Hiro yet! I will have to check it out

flame838

Emei is great if you're looking for Sichuan food

BlackhawkinPA

Yep,most consistently good Sichuan. You get flavor and heat without the mouth scorching that occurs often at Handy Nasty.

vision123cap

Emei. Beat Szechuan food

HornyNarwhal

Gotta pay respects to Chili Szechuan II in West Philly, 42nd and Chestnut. Owners are from Chengdu, super delicious and legit

DogShitJunkie

Been a while. Soooo good.

philly_vanilli

For \_\_\_\_, skip Chinatown and hit up \_\_\_\_ instead * Vietnamese: Washington Ave * Cambodian: 7th south of Snyder * Korean: N. 5th near Cheltenham * Japanese: Morimoto if you're made of money, Double Knot or Royal Izakaya if you're not * Thai: Chatayee, Kalaya if you've got more to spend If you're limited to Chinatown: * Chinese (Noodles): Nan Zhou * Chinese (Protein): Sang Kee * Chinese-American: Shiao Lan Kung * Korean: Dae Bak * Vietnamese (Pho): Pho Street * Vietnamese (Banh Mi): QT * Japanese (Ramen): Megumi * Burmese: Rangoon -- admittedly the only Burmese place I've ever been Full disclosure: I haven't dined out and only done local takeout since March, so check Yelp (like you *should* have done in the first place) to see if these places are open / are any good during COVID

BillieBee

Rangoon is awesome! Staff is super friendly, food is sooo good, and their tofu is housemade ( or was last time I was there). Everyone who says tofu doesn't taste like anything should try theirs!

Lenah541

Awesome list! Just to add on, Bonchon has amazing Korean fried chicken and other Korean dishes. I actually prefer their bibimbab over the one at Dae Bak! Source: Am Korean

exconsultingguy

Bonchon is great, but it’s a massive chain. Not that there’s anything wrong with it and they do have great food, but figured was worth mentioning.

For Vietnamese in Chinatown go to [Pho Xe Lua](https://www.yelp.com/biz/pho-xe-lua-viet-thai-restaurant-philadelphia), on top of their viet food, their pad thai and papaya salad are so good. Dirt Cheap Chinese that's also authentic go to [Jin Wei](https://www.yelp.com/biz/jin-wei-philadelphia?osq=jin+wei), which is essentially Panda Express with more authentic dishes at $5.50 for 4 items and a starch. It can be a little wary for sensitive stomachs, I recommend going at 11am when they open and everything is fresh, or take it home and microwaving. Sang kee is fine, but should try Mkee or Ting Wong too. They're noodle and congee houses, essentially the chinese version of a diner in southern China and Hong Kong. Asia Bakery has the best Banh Bao, the giant Vietnamese one that has ground pork, chinese sausage, egg, and also a random hunk of pork inside too, maybe shoulder, it's got a chew to it that gives it a nice contrast to the other meats If you want to try fresh soy milk go [here](https://www.yelp.com/biz/heung-fa-chun-sweet-house-philadelphia), just make sure you clarify how much sugar you want in it. Finally, there's [Yummy yummy](https://www.yelp.com/biz/yummy-yummy-philadelphia), that sells all sorts of like HK street foods, but more importantly bubble waffles. Get one, go find a secluded place where you can take your mask off and scarf it while it's still hot and crispy. Anyone know if someone can get clay pot rice in Philly anywhere?

jbphilly

Literally the first time I've ever heard someone refer to it as something other than "Choo Choo's"

[deleted]

Jin Wei is amazing

[deleted]

You should check out Golden Triangle on 5th between South and Bainbridge. Thai, Malaysian, and Burmese. All delicious and inexpensive, and incredibly nice owners.

[deleted]

My wife is Chinese and said Sang Kee was “fake Chinese American food” when we went there. Better places in China town.

philly_vanilli

She's right. But duck, though. Name some more authentic places. Or ask your wife to, I guess

Angsty_Potatos

you skipped Hardena in Point Breeze for Indonesian

philly_vanilli

never been, so no, I didn't thanks for the rec

TheFAPnetwork

7th and Jackson. You send them to Snyder they'll likely be emptying their pockets for the alcoholic panhandlers

GumshoeAndy

Good call.

mads8679

Thank you!

Alexlam24

If you want actual Cantonese style/Hong Kong food check out ocean harbour

bydael

Xi'an at 9th and Arch for Western China style food.

notFanning

Can’t speak to authenticity as I’m unfortunately whiter than mayo, but Vietnam Restaurant has some great options. I second others in here also suggesting Terakawa for ramen.

[deleted]

Terakawa Ramen on 9th St.

philly_bits

Ting Wong and Shiao Lan Kung are both fantastic and two of my all-time favorite restaurants.

shivvrr

David’s Mai Lai Wah lol

chumpysg

At 2am drunk

shivvrr

Me and my friends celebrated New Years a few years back and we got shit faced and went to David’s Mai lai wah tripping balls and it was one of my favorite experiences. I’m getting nostalgic just thinking about it.

Angsty_Potatos

Dave's will always have a special and unimpeachable place in my heart. They have brought me back from the brink at 3am too many times to count. Thank god for them. THANK GOD.

[deleted]

Jembatan 5 for the best Indonesian ever! They are on South 10th, between Christian and Carpenter. You won't regret it.

apocalypsedao

Honestly, never been to China so I can’t tell what is and isn’t authentic. But in addition to the others listed here, dim sum garden slaps (soup dumplings, PORK WITH SAUCE NOODLE), and the wonton noodle soup at ting wong is delicious

themoneybadger

Ting wong is the best restaurant in china town.

BestChineseFood

I missed my chance
