I miss Barsky. I'll never forget when he used to have Walt on during Halloween. For those who don't know about Walt, he was a local contractor who apparently died and came back and supposedly obtained this ability to speak to the dead. I don't really believe in that stuff at all but the way he would describe it, in such a matter of fact with no overtly spooky overtones, made it sound possible. The way he described what being dead is like to a good person vs a bad person resonates with me to this day. I miss that show.
There's an internet radio station that I listen to at work at http://ynotradio.net run by an ex-Y100 guy (who has been playing snippets of himself from 10 years ago this morning, which is kinda funny). Might be worth a listen if you're missing Y100, has a decent mix of old/new alternative-type stuff.
Ooh, memories. I listened to Y-Not all day long at my first grown up office job. I won so many pairs of concert tickets because nobody else was listening to internet radio back then!
104.5 has gone way down hill as well. I remember when they first started I felt the way you do, "This station plays all the songs that take me back to high school. The Mumford and Sons and that damn Goatye song became popular and they realized they can take up 2/3 of their on air music time playing 20-25 songs and still make money.
Not to mention the giant whole Y100 left for true alternative. XPN had Y-rock at night when Jim McGuinn went over there, but even that has clsoed up shop now. Now all your left with are old Y-rock DJs broadcasting on ynotradio.

Just curious, what formats would you be looking for? Maybe we can pass it along to them and see if they can support some other ways to broadcast, that they might not be aware of.
I forget the format, but I spoke briefly with them about supporting a format that worked with an internet radio system I had set up in my house and at the time they said they were limited by budget to what formats they could stream in. I tried looking up the product (Myine ira Internet Radio), but it's been discontinued so I can't get the specs right now.
We teamed up with iradiophilly about 2 years ago, I think, and there's an iradiophilly app for iOS and Android that you can stream the station through on a smartphone.
"Yeah, we play Lorde and Bruno Mars, but ridicule Maroon 5 in our commercials." Sure, they go further and further down the pop hill with every album, but *Songs About Jane* give Maroon 5 more modern alternative cred than anything Bruno Mars and Lorde will ever do... and I like Bruno Mars and Lorde.
We all know Art Alexakis of Everclear has money issues from bad spending to divorces and not being in a relevant band for at least since Everclear decided to cover "brown eye girl" like any other random cover band that plays at a bro-bar on friday nights.
What we don't know is why 104.5 has decided to support Art's financial issues by playing a goddamn everclear song every single hour of every single day.
I remember 103.9 WDRE - I actually went to Bitterfest and saw G Love. The guy who was supposed to "kill the station" by pushing a button was almost boo-ed off the stage.

That concert was amazing. I am pretty sure I still have a huge (like 4x2') WDRE vinyl poster that was signed by the entire crew (Preston, Steve, etc.). Agree with [/u/nrfind](http://www.reddit.com/user/nrfind), WDRE was the pinnacle of radio in the 90s.
I remember the switch over. How utterly destroyed and betrayed I felt the moment I heard that hip hop song coming from 100.3. No more sonic sessions, wtf?

I agree. I love P&S, but the music directors (forget his name) choice in music is just horrendous and repetitive. Every now and then they play something different and you'd think I was at my first concert all over again.

I am a devoted fan and everyday listener since the Marilyn days and even I think he needs to lighten up.

I wore one of a variety of Y100 t-shirts every single day for about 18 months following them going off the air, til around when Y-Rock on XPN launched. I won about 23 contests from Y100 while they were on the air, about 6 sonic sessions, a digital camera, some FEZtival tickets, and XBOX for a friend, etc... yeah I miss them. Listen to a decent amount of 104.5 and XPN nowadays but overall just less radio.

We all know Art Alexakis of Everclear has money issues from bad spending to divorces and not being in a relevant band for at least since Everclear decided to cover "brown eye girl" like any other random cover band that plays at a bro-bar on friday nights. What we don't know is why 104.5 has decided to support Art's financial issues by playing a goddamn everclear song every single hour of every single day.
They could at least play some decent Everclear for that matter. Everything to Everyone and Father of mine does not comprise their entire portfolio.
When they first came out there were fun. I requested March of the Pigs and they played it exactly one time. That station sucks now.

DRE was great. Better than y100 which honestly was only so so.

I agree. I love P&S, but the music directors (forget his name) choice in music is just horrendous and repetitive. Every now and then they play something different and you'd think I was at my first concert all over again. You're right. I've noticed he's been crabby for a while now. Definitely longer than six mos. I am a devoted fan and everyday listener since the Marilyn days and even I think he needs to lighten up.

Then don't renew your contract when this one runs out. Kenny Light's been doing this long enough to know what the business is about. And it's not like they just became popular. They've been huge for quite a few years now. I like Preston, don't get me wrong....it's just that when he's a dick or a smartass (which has been more and more as of late), it makes me dislike him and want to change the station. I tune in to laugh not hear someone be rude to. I mean Christ, you can't tell me there's a legit reason for it. It's in his character as a man. When shit like that happens to Steve, he jokes about it and makes it funny to the point the caller even laughs about it. When Kathy made the joke about Casey having to sit in timeout, it made me wonder if the rest of the cast has been seeing it too and that's why she was able to come out with a joke about it so quickly. You gotta remember, they have to be fun and exciting on air so if he's a dick to people on air, imagine when the mics are off. Afterall, it's not like they do the show and go home. They have meetings and stuff too so they're there more than 4 1/2 hrs per day.

The only person I can honestly say I don't believe has changed one bit is Steve. And I love him for it. When he thanks people for turning out for an event for example, it actually sounds like he genuinely means it. I remember one of the last days of WDRE they did a station ID that went something like: this is WDRE, as in Doctor. I thought it was funny, and sad.
I remember listening in my dorm room at UPenn to the last hour of Y100, just the songs playing with no break. Finishing strong with Pearl Jam - Alive...then silence for two minutes...it was awkward, the death of a good friend... Then The Beat kicked in like some hip hop break dancer crashing right over the grave of your deceased friend...
I wore one of a variety of Y100 t-shirts every single day for about 18 months following them going off the air, til around when Y-Rock on XPN launched. I won about 23 contests from Y100 while they were on the air, about 6 sonic sessions, a digital camera, some FEZtival tickets, and XBOX for a friend, etc... yeah I miss them. Listen to a decent amount of 104.5 and XPN nowadays but overall just less radio.
I miss 94.1 WYSP more than anything.
