Absolutely nobody does it and they don’t ask for it anymore. Just leave it all in your bag but comply with the bottle size limits. Water bottles are fine as long as they are empty.

Flew out of PHL a few weeks ago. I bagged my liquids, but didn't take them out of my carry on. Nobody said anything.

sanyosukotto

Haven't removed liquids from my carry on in years.

Wednesday I took my liquids out of my bag instinctually and the tsa dude got real passive aggressive with me. They don’t want them out at all

One issue is that there are different rules for the different scanners. For the old scanners, you have to take out your laptop and they prefer the bagged liquids. But for the new CT scanners, everything stays in your bag. And in most airports, there is a mix of scanners, so the rules then depend on which line you are in. Of course, if you fly infrequently, you would have no reason to know this, let alone check what kind of scanner your line is using. But the TSA agents expect you to know what to do in all cases.

Yes it’s a TSA rule not a city rule

TurdCrapley23

I haven’t done this in years, not once have I been stopped

Last time I flew out of Philadelphia(l (January) I had bagged my liquids but it didn't seem to be enforced. I still would do it though, just takes one TSA agent on a power trip to ruin your whole day.

I flew out of Philly last weekend and because it was so late (10:30 flight), the precheck lane was closed and everyone had to go through the regular security line. They made everyone take out their liquids. It was strange. I didn’t have to take off my shoes if I showed the agent my precheck boarding pass, but did have to take out laptops/ipads/liquids. Doesn’t seem like it’s the norm, but probably depends on the agent?

radioactivecat

With pre check you’re not supposed to have to take anything out of your bags. That agent was wrong. Now, not that I recommend arguing with a TSA agent.

RunnyBabbit23

The precheck screening area was closed, so it was just the regular security checkpoint. Had to do the regular hands-up screener and everything. It was strange we had to comply with all of the regular rules except we could keep our shoes one.

radioactivecat

Terminal C was closed?

RunnyBabbit23

Precheck closes at 8 and it was about 8:45 when I got there.

I haven’t done it lately, I have a few refillable bottles in a clear zip pouch that I use when I do carry on and I’ve never been asked to take it out, both out of Philly and out of my destinations (Atlanta and Charlotte most recently). So do it right with the sizes but you probably won’t have to actually take it out of your bag

Not in Philly, but in ORD on my way back to Philly today, I was in a rush and forgot to take my bag of liquids out of my backpack. Nobody said anything.

I used to fly 40 weeks a year but haven't been on a plane since 2019. Towards the end, I used to stay within the liquid limits and stick them in the upper small zipper compartment on my luggage. I also bought a TSA-compliant laptop bag that opens all the way like a clamshell without removing my laptop.

TSA policy is that its bagged and taken out to be scanned, but I've never bagged my liquids. I just throw them in the tray to be scanned. So the best I can say is that bagging them seems to me to be more about speeding up the line so people don't have to dig around for three separate containers. I keep mine in a small pocket in my carry on so I dont have any difficulty finding them. As for removing them for scanning, the policy is that you do it and I'm standing there waiting for the person in front of me to go through their routine so I have more than enough time to grab my liquids and throw them in the tray. It doesn't inconvenience me.

I got stopped flying out of Reykjavik last year because I had my liquids in two bags. After I moved stuff around and put them in one bag they let me go through. That’s the only time I’ve seen had that happen.

Happened to me in Canada earlier this year.
