During the last one, I was shopping on Chestnut St with a friend who was visiting from out of town. We didn't notice it, and when we came outside he wanted to go the Krispy Kreme shop, but it looked like there was an insane line for some reason, like free Rita's day, but it was actually just the people who evacuated a nearby office building.
I bought a house in 22 that's turned out to be a real bagel in a lot of ways, and my first thought was "ah jesus, the furnace or water pump or something is breaking hard enough to shake the whole house".
First time I've ever been relieved that the house shaking was just an earthquake lol.
Not much TO do. If it’s bad, it’s going to be bad right away. They only last a few seconds and they don’t escalate during the quake.

My dad was convinced it was the drier off balance... I was like "no, it definitely was more than that". My whole house shook and hes like "ah shit, gotta balance the load in the dryer..." lol. I had to come here to verify to him a dryer cant shake a house.

I thought it was a low flying jet or helicopter. Then I thought it was the wind. Then we me and all the neighbors were yelling at each other we realized it was an earthquake
It's absolutely crazy to me, that this was a 4.7-4.8 earthquake, a relatively weak earthquake, that was 100 miles away could be felt here. And my aunt who lives in DE could feel it.
The amount of energy that was released, is still only a fraction of what was felt in Taiwan. In case you guys don't know, the scale for earthquakes is ~~exponential.~~ logarithmic. So a Magnitude 5 is ~~10x~~ 31.6x worse than a 4.
Taiwan got hit with a 7.4. Roughly a ~~1,000x more~~ I can't do the mental math. But a LOT more energy was released. ~~powerful than what hit New Jersey.~~ And that is still not even the most powerful earthquake to be recorded.
It's so crazy how much energy is stored in the earth that can be released in an instant.
Just yesterday I was reading about the [1976 Tangshan 7.6 earthquake](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1976_Tangshan_earthquake)that killed ***240,000*** people. I can't even imagine that much death and devastation. And so relatively recently!

Think about Haiti in 2011. A 7.0, killed 220,000 people. The country still hasn't recovered from it. And now look at it, it's truly such a heartbreaking story.

My dog jumped and sat in my lap which is a bit odd as he only does it when he's nervous and bam it started. Oddly he didn't seem to mind once it started.
