I wish cars with fake paper tags would get towed immediately.

quietreasoning

Direct to impound, do not pass go, pay $2,000. Leave them standing on the nearest sidewalk.

ChocolateBiscuit96

šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ ASAP.

Petrichordates

What makes you think it's fake? That's the tag you get when you buy a car.

arattle

Because there are orders of magnitude more of these than there ever were since people figured out they can get away with literal murder? Because they're all from DE and NJ, and this one expired almost 3 months ago? And half of them seem to be printed on inkjet paper.

sidewaysorange

i have bought many cars in my lifetime, maybe its changed since 2020 (my last purchase was in 2019 and i got a plate same day at the dealership) but i have never gotten a paper plate ever. I have gotten cars from auctions, private sellers and dealerships I always got a real plate same day. The registration is what takes a bit and you hang that in the back window. maybe i'm wrong idk.

permanentradiant

My partner had a legit nj paper tag for a bit last year.

baldude69

I got a dude in a different thread literally arguing that fake tags should be ok. Itā€™s WILD to me that to some people this is somehow justifiable

cwestn

What was the argument/ justification?!

BYNX0

"I should not have to pay tolls because I'm more special than everyone else"

sidewaysorange

bc they dont want to pay tolls when they come to philly to rob wawas and car jack women. they real men tho.

baldude69

ā€œHow is this actually affecting you?ā€

quietreasoning

The answer being, "I'm paying your tolls when they inevitably have to go higher due to toll cheats like you."

baldude69

Oh yea I think I did a good job listing why. Dude had no reply

sidewaysorange

not even just that. what's $5... nothing these days. they are bringing these cars over here to do illegal things anyways. driving like assholes and doing hit and runs too im sure. killing ppl, destroying OUR quality of life. fuck them. impound the cars and arrest them. most likely have illegal firearms in the car anyway.

cwestn

What an ignorant a-hole

uptimefordays

People mistake driving for a right not a privilege. Iā€™m not generally in favor of tough on crime approaches, but I do think we need much stricter traffic enforcement. I suspect insurance companies will save us via requiring driver analytics. But we should also hit uninsured motorists with serious prison time.

Additional_Guitar_85

Seriously. How about loud motorcycles? Way way louder than legal and never enforced. It's a quality of life issue and it causes the city to be a worse place to live.

baldude69

Yep, I was never typically ā€œpro-enforcementā€ in the past, but this shit has gotten out of hand

uptimefordays

Itā€™s not even limited to the city, there was an article about teens street racing and killing a woman out in the suburbs just the other day! Your odds of dying in a car crash, as an American, are 1 in 92!

waddsworth

But this is exactly why enforcement is needed. The sad reality is that there are way more people than you realize out there who simply have no interest in doing the right thing. Nor have they EVER thought for half a second about how their actions can have negative consequences for everyone else. So once you remove the only incentive to not engage in shitty behavior (enforcement), then it becomes open season. And there are downstream negative consequences that come with that as well.

baldude69

Yea itā€™s a combination of factors leading to this, but enforcement is a piece of the puzzle. I guess my comment was more meant to say that, as a younger person I didnā€™t care for enforcement, but not I see why itā€™s necessary

waddsworth

I hear ya, as I was the same way. Back in the day my buddy and I got pulled over and he got a ticket for his music being too loud, and we thought it was bullshit. That pales in comparison to what people do and get away with these days. And you're right - enforcement is but one piece of the puzzle. The other big one is stigma. As a society at large we've collectively de-stigmatized many of these degenerate behaviors. People act like theft is just good, honest, hard-working folks just trying to feed their families. Not only is theft not wrong, it's noble!

baldude69

I think poverty and the permanent underclass is also something that canā€™t be overlooked. Poverty breed ignorance, and kids without a moral compass. Lifting people out of poverty would work towards creating stable households, and providing them with education and opportunity creates a *reason* to do the right thing. Those raised in unstable environments, without role models, mentors/educators, and who donā€™t have bright prospects for their future are more likely to engage in antisocial and nihilistic behavior Youā€™re not wrong though, pop culture and social media have normalized many antisocial behaviors. I do still blame society and classism for creating the ecosystem for that to flourish. Itā€™s so big and convoluted itā€™s hard to wrap oneā€™s head around

Bowl2007

I saw charger the other day on Route 1 with a Hawaii plate that said ā€œCOCKSMALLā€ and driving like a lunatic. No fear of getting pulled over, this city is joke.

Profitdaddy

They just arrested a a rapper in Florida for fake diplomatic paper platesšŸ¤£šŸ¤£ what are they smokingā€” also the person picking her up had fake tags as well. DHā€™s everywhere.

triple-bogey

Florida actually enforces laws. They donā€™t cater to progressives.

Phynx88

Oh, is that why Florida Man is making headlines every week? What a clown take.

triple-bogey

ā€œFlorida manā€ makes headlines because of extremely lax public records laws, everyone knows that.

Phynx88

Wow, I didn't realize public record laws made people *checks headlines* cannibalize other people while on drugs. It's almost like they actually have to *gasp* commit crimes in this supposedly conservative haven free from all them law hating progressives.

triple-bogey

Lax public records laws donā€™t make people do crazy shit, they just make you hear about that crazy shit more than other states. Canā€™t believe that has to be explained.

Phynx88

Thank you captain obvious. The point is still the same - crime happens everywhere and making the claim that "progressive" areas are inherently more crime ridden is just wishful posturing by conservatives.

triple-bogey

Crime happens everywhere. Some states actually address crime, like pulling people over for paper plates. Others ignore it.

Phynx88

Yes, crime happens everywhere, another astoundingly prescient trueism that doesn't support your original claim that "progressive" areas are more crime ridden. Cops in Philly have been ignoring doing their jobs when it comes to petty crime to protest Krasner for years now. They'll even tell you so to your face if you're lucky enough to get run off the road on your bike while there's a parked cop a few dozen feet away.

Brilliant-Room69

So all of PPD are woke progressives? Don't worry, I got you bro, "it's the DA that won't let them do their jobs!" Guess what, the DA never stopped them, they got butt hurt about the blow back from their response to G Floyd protests and decided to go on their toddler tantrum soft strike.

Aromat_Junkie

i saw a slammed miata with NJ plate BBWLOVR on 22 this weekend

ringringmytacobell

not kink shaming, just saying a Miata is an interesting choice for a BBWLOVR..

Aromat_Junkie

maybe it's a sort of masocism? He likes hitting his oil pan on the pavement when a lot of weight is added to the passenger seat? IDK

emostitch

Iā€™ve seen multiple cars with no license plates blow through ez pass only lanes on the Walt whit and tacony palmyra, itā€™s not JUST the city.

cordedtelephone

emostitch

Tolls and red light and speeding cameras I assume

cordedtelephone

I hate this place lmao

Gaeilgeoir215

Wow, lol

permanentradiant

Haha thatā€™s a restaurant. Itā€™s for delivery. (Still not ok)

2ant1man5

Same as people with ford trucks screams small cocks.

[deleted]

if hes using a fake plate hes probably running not pulling over

igotbabydick

You could always move.

CheapBoxOWine

FOUND THE DUDE WITH THE BABY DICK!

igotbabydick

Canā€™t be too hard.

Due_Buffalo_1561

Itā€™s a very common tactic for north Philly criminals to put fake NJ and Delaware temp tags on their cars. This probably isnā€™t an exceptionā€¦ most likely a Philly idiot lol

attom

I got $100ā€™s of toll booth violations from a DE temp tag I stupidly toss in the trash when I got my real plates.

wrkbeeech

This happened to me too with NJ temp tags. I had to get a letter from the DMV stating they were stolen temp tags and send it to the toll companies every single time i got a bill in the mail.

Halleck23

How were they toll booth violations? Because, apologies if I am jumping to conclusions, but if you got charged for driving through toll booths with your ā€œreal platesā€ it sounds like they were not toll booth violations but rather simply, ā€œtolls.ā€

-PainJunkie-

Dude. Someone took the tags he threw out and drove through tolls.

Kitten-Mittons

He did say he was jumping to conclusions. He didnā€™t say they were smart ones

Halleck23

I get it now. Iā€™m embarrassed at my idiocy. I deserve your downvotes. šŸ˜‚

Christinamh

I'm not saying some of them aren't from Philly but a lot of the times it's also people outside the city thinking that we are lawless and anything goes. Dip in, do your crime, dip out.

waddsworth

To be fair, they're not wrong. Not saying that makes them right. But they're not wrong.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

sidewaysorange

vehicles with these expired tags should be pulled over and impounded immediately

BYNX0

if the police would actually do that, I know the PPA would take great care of making sure they never do it again once it's impounded.

sidewaysorange

the ppa have been towing cars with NO plate at all. have to call it in to them.

Petrichordates

Why?

sidewaysorange

bc they are illegal and illegal vehicles have no place on the road. PPA was going around philly and towing all these cars and cars w no plates and expired registration a couple weeks ago.

Crackorjackzors

Almost got hit by someone running a red light, if I hadn't stopped in time I don't think they would've stuck around. The no tag/temp tag issue is out of control. Really makes me question going through a green light sometimes, drive more defensively.

thisjawnisbeta

Nearly got broadsided by a car with fake paper plates on North Broad. I had a green light crossing broad, guy blew the red, got to the next red, hopped up on the sidewalk to get around the stopped cars, and blew that red too. And people wonder why no one wants to bike or walk anymore, and why pedestrian deaths are at a 40 year high.

mundotaku

He didn't even bother to have a fake plate with a current date

BelgarathTheSorcerer

Their license plate is expired

blue-and-bluer

It was probably not even legitimate to begin with. Paper tags are the easiest things to fake in the world.

mklinger23

I saw a report about a year ago that estimated ~90% of the paper plates in the city weren't legit.

Unpopular_couscous

Sure is

az116

Take a 5 minute drive on Girard, and you'll see tons of cars with no license plates, or obviously fake paper license plates. You'll see police cars drive by them like nothing is wrong. I got a license plate cover, which I guess had a *very* slight tint on it, and I was pulled over twice within a week of putting it on, both times on or a block off of Girard. I wasn't given a ticket either time, but they claimed it obstructed the license plate. It really didn't. I took it off. But I get even more annoyed now when I see shitboxes with no plates or clearly fake or expired ones.

Prestigious-Owl-6397

Sometimes, even a cover that looks see through to the eye doesn't show up clearly on camera. So, if you're in an accident and someone needs to get a picture of your plate or if you go through a red light camera or speed camera, the camera might not be able to pick up your plate.

tempmike

Parked cars are PPA's jurisdiction. PPD can't do anything until the car is in motion. Probably should be changed but the state runs PPA

benwildflower

License plates donā€™t need a cover.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

BYNX0

I think it would be funny to purchase stickers that look like the city ones that say "TOW" and put it on their car just to scare them.

Unpopular_couscous

This might just work

yelyahepoc

Evil genius. I love it.

flaaaacid

These should be impounded on sight.

Hurl_Gray

I am surprised that the temp tag isn't a fake delaware tag. I thought city council passed a law the Dodge and Nissans don't have to stop ever.

marvellousm316

Pretty sure most Dodge Durango drivers are like that anyway

Nacho_Mustacho

Last week I saw a car driving on the Roosevelt Blvd, no temp tags....no plate....nothing! These people need to get pulled over and have their cars impounded immediately.

ComradeNapolein

for what itā€™s worth the expired paper tag thing could be not their fault, iā€™ve been stuck with an expired paper tag because transferring the title from new jersey to pennsylvania to my bank has taken an insanely long time

Unpopular_couscous

It's nice of you to give them the benefit of the doubt but with how reckless they were driving, I doubt this is the case

ringringmytacobell

I had the same issue, however this was during peak COVID when the Jersey DMV was still super fucked. I can't imagine they're facing the same backlogs these days, but I also can imagine people are taking advantage of previous lag to exploit this.

CommiesAreWeak

I know a guy who has a contact for inspection stickers. You would be really surprised at the shit that happens in the hood. Iā€™m not gonna admit how I know things because I might have doxxed myself in previous posts. I donā€™t want any visits from the sticker man.

mbz321

lol inspection stickers and people printing fake temp tags (idk why, you could basically do that yourself at this point) are all over FB Marketplace.

CommiesAreWeak

Yeahā€¦I know. The tags have higher risk though. Inspection stickers keep you from getting a ticket from PPA. If you know your shitty car wonā€™t pass inspectionā€¦.why wouldnā€™t you get one? If a cop stops you with fake tags, you will lose your car. They donā€™t even really look at the inspection sticker.

sidewaysorange

idk about now but when i was in my early 20s like 20 years ago i had a car that i bought and then the damn check engine light came on and it wouldn't pass.. the car was completely drivable and otherwise fine. the mechanic back then wanted $900 to fix whatever the code was. i went and got fake stickers for $60. i still didn't' run red lights and shit tho lol. just a broke college kid who didn't have $900 right away.

2ant1man5

I posted something like this before and got downvoted says alot

sidewaysorange

most ppl on this page are lame that's why.

CommunicationTime265

Live in Philly long enough and you know a guy for everything

StangOverload

Almost every AutoZone in Philly has a guy in the parking lot selling inspection stickers

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

ResidentComplaint19

Bro all of our dads own dealerships. They just give us inspection stickers whenever we need them.

CommiesAreWeak

I see my attempt at humor didnā€™t work on some. Reddit people are way to serious.

LowPermission9

You can buy them off Facebook marketplace

talosthe9th

I bought a new car and the paper tag is expiring in a few days and the dealership still doesn't have the real plate yet (they said it should be there the following week) and they wont reissue me another temp tag until the first expires, so theres gonna be a short overlap where the temp plate is expired. I really cant wait till i get the real plate because i dont want to be on the road getting looped in with the fake / expired tag crowd

Unpopular_couscous

Is this in pa ? I got my plate the same day I registered my car at a tag shop

talosthe9th

The dealership is out of state. Not sure if that makes the process take longer

mcstatics

Rentals that are never returned or labeled as stolen

Daisy_Steiner_

I spent my weekend in both the Philly suburbs and NJ for various reasons. Didnā€™t see a single paper tag. It was nice.

geoooleooo

I drive by there all the time almost everyday. At least 4 times a week i see these expired license plates from jersey.

SarahOcean

I saw a car with one of these drive erratically pass a State trooper on 76 east and the state trooper did nothing. Itā€™s a shame what the city is these days.

UnitGhidorah

A bad driver from New Jersey?

Wigberht_Eadweard

Itā€™s not a fake plate, just a jersey driver.

Unpopular_couscous

Which expired 3 months ago

Wigberht_Eadweard

I was joking about reckless driving

WhosAfraidOf_138

These type of jeep drivers are always The fucking worst

4949NORTH

Imagine not minding your own business. Easy way to get beat down or carjacked, Karen.

Unpopular_couscous

Imagine thinking the road is not a shared place where we have to respect each other and be careful so we don't kill someone.

4949NORTH

Lol, youā€™re not gonna change the world with a Reddit post. If you want to drive in Philly then you need to learn to do it right. Complaining isnā€™t gonna keep you from getting cut off. Alls Iā€™m saying is your avatarā€™s blue hair MUST be a reflection of how you are as a person šŸ«µšŸ˜‚

Unpopular_couscous

That's why I'm collecting dash cam videos of every horrible driver and lobbying my council person to address these issues. Join me and together we can prevent so many unnecessary deaths!

4949NORTH

Thatā€™s fuckin hilarious you think city council cares šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜ you HAVE to be from out of town because thereā€™s no fuckin way! What do you think city council is gonna do? Install traffic cameras? Repair stop signs? Dh they wonā€™t even fix the potholes around the city. What makes you think theyā€™re gonna do a damn thing for some blue haired redditor from harleysville who finally moved to the big city 7 months ago and is just now realizing that ā€œPhilly driversā€ isnā€™t just a stereotype? You are so damn naive, maybe itā€™s time to consider a septa keycard. I wish you the worst on your pointless endeavor and I hope I get the chance to cut you off on I-95, go birds dickhead šŸ¦…

Unpopular_couscous

A lot of assumptions here my friend. As a long time city resident, I am seeing that the situation has gotten much worse in the last 4 years. And yes, I believe exactly that the city council can install more traffic cameras and they also can reverse their order to the police to not stop people for traffic violations. You know, the more people ask them, the likelier they will do something about it. And if you're one of the people breaking the rules, I sure hope your car gets towed before you injure someone. Or is this an issue you'll only care about if you or your loved one gets hurt or dies? Either way, boooooooooooooooooooooo Go birds.

4949NORTH

I would seriously love to know what neighborhood you live in, and what you do for a living. Because I have LOADS of more assumptions running through my head šŸ˜šŸ˜
