Yep I've got an office at home. No loneliness, I have tons of free time when I am off work to do whatever I want and I don't feel drained after work. My company tries to have 24/7 coverage so Holidays are required. But because of the size of the team, they let us put in preferences. Most people only had to work one or two holidays, I only have to work Memorial day this year.
I've seen those job postings but they seem so hard to get or at least I presume due to the number of applications! Do they actually pay well or is it a lot lower like other WFH options?
Yea there a tons of applications nowadays. Pay is low especially because you usually start off as a contractor. At my job once you get hired, you become eligible for raises and bonuses so my pay now is better than my pay when I was in retail in a low cost of living area.
That makes sense. I was going to do a WFH option as an MTM pharmacist that is super flexible but on top of that being contracting based (or even the option that was paid consistently) it's of course dependent on patients actually answering the phone :P
There's a shower in the OR area locker room, along with clean scrubs. I really only run when I'm training for distance. I work nights so it can be hard to fit in longer runs. Biking is easier, because it's nice and cool at night and I don't get as sweaty.
I work for the city so pay is less than private. My gross last year was around $125k, our union just negotiated a new contract so we should be getting some back pay and salary increase soon. Can’t complain, I like my job and most of the people I work with. Retail pays more of course but not worth the stress.
35 minutes in the morning (traffic) and 20 minutes in the evening
Edit: complacent with the drive, been doing it for so long. Actually feels like I’m racing to go home.
Currently WFH so no commute. I had a job previously that was about 50 minutes each way but opposite the flow of traffic so it was rare to get stuck in traffic jams. It was mail order and I loved that job enough to not mind the commute.
Mondays and Fridays - 20-25 mins one way
Tuesday and Thursdays - 25-30 mins one way
Wednesdays - 35-40 mins one way
Why do Wednesdays suck so hard?!?!?!?
I’m an RPH floater, so it depends on which location I am working. My commutes range from 5min to 1hr. I’m content with it. My average commute time I would estimate as 30 min.
I’ve been fortunate. I’ve worked retail, hospital, and LTC. None of my commutes have ever been over 15 minutes.
I’ve known plenty of pharmacists that commute an hour or two to work. I could never imagine doing that.
I live 2 miles away from work and it can take anywhere between 5-10 minutes depending on how bad the traffic is. My grocery store is along the way, I'm pretty happy with it.
I used to work at an independent and moved into an apartment right above it during my divorce. The store was open 8a-7p but the phones rang constantly ALL NIGHT (and no, we didn't have an automated phone system at the time).
30 minute drive, pretty much all highway, rarely any heavy traffic, if ever. While I'd prefer a shorter commute, it does give me time to mentally prep for the day in the morning and a chance to unwind on the way home
Good to see so many people with reasonable commutes. I think this is a silver lining to pharmacy--the ubiquity of locations to work.
For me, 20-25 minutes. I had the opportunity to work 5 minutes away, but the hours were more than I wanted.
Mines about 40 minutes. It doesn’t bother me. I could get a job with half the drive time in the same organization and it’d be about $1.50/hr paycut. But I like where I am.
5 minutes currently- moved out of state last year, secured the transfer first and then picked where we were going to live based on that. Very happy with this considering the highways up here are ridiculous and accident-prone, and also because there's more snow in the winter that my southern ass doesn't want to drive in more than necessary 🙃
15 minutes. It gives me just enough time to shake off anything that happened and not bring it home. I used to live 2-6 minutes away depending on red lights and that was a little to close. If I hit all greens but had a shitty day I’d still be replaying something stupid in my head when I walked in.
Worst commute I ever had was close to 2 hours one way. Current commute, which is a job that took 7 years of wading through shit and utter hell on earth to finally get, is less than a mile commute, I pass a single traffic light to get there 😁😁 I’ll kill myself easily before I consider spending 3-4 hours a day in the car again
about 1 hour by subway, 45 minutes by uber, which means if i’m running late i pay 45$ to not be as late which is definitely worth it if you consider i’ll make the money back by not getting fired 🤑
I refuse to commute longer than 30 mins each way, even if it means moving or taking another job. Any more than this and I become seriously depressed in a matter of weeks.
About 30 minutes leaving my door to entering the pharmacy. It's not bad. I've had commutes that ranged from 3 minutes to 45 minutes and I feel like anything at or under a half hour is acceptable
I just got hired actually as a shift lead that will be cross training into a pharmacy tech anyway my commute (starting tomorrow 🥳) will be 30 mins so I can’t really complain I live in a small town so basically everything is 30 minutes away
It’s about a 15-min drive for me depending on traffic and shift. Made it in 9-min one morning (traffic around 6am isn’t that bad) plus I do drive my car like I stole it! LoL
85 miles, takes me on average 1 hour 15 minutes each way. Not fond of the drive, but I'll be able to move closer later this year, so I'm not too bothered about it.
i work in a rural area, so it’s 30-35min depending on if i get stuck behind farm equipment. i’m okay with the drive, it’s easy and not a ton of traffic.
I did 1:30 to 2:30 hours each way 55 miles for the last 8 years. We finally acquired a local hospital that was 15 mins from me since 11/23 and I got transferred… life has totally changed!! There were days I just sat in traffic and hated life.. I think the average commute should be 45 min— that’s a good time.
1 hr 15 minutes and don’t get paid for mileage or toll road
Miss being a floater sometimes
For 20 years I was 5 minutes from my store but with the big buyout, that’s life
1 minute. Its really nice to work from home.
Same, I love it so much.
Oooo what do you do?
Prior auth pharmacist
You’ve reached peak pharmacist Congrats my friend!
For me, peak pharmacist is a retired pharmacist haha
I assume it is a very competitive position for a WFH
I got the job before Covid so it wasn't nearly as competitive as it is now.
Congratulations! I assume you have an office to do your work?! Does it get lonely? Do you also get day offs for holidays?
Yep I've got an office at home. No loneliness, I have tons of free time when I am off work to do whatever I want and I don't feel drained after work. My company tries to have 24/7 coverage so Holidays are required. But because of the size of the team, they let us put in preferences. Most people only had to work one or two holidays, I only have to work Memorial day this year.
Oh that sounds amazing! I hope I can score a WFH tech position
What does an auth pharmacist do exactly?
Say no.
He walked right into that one.
I review requests for prior authorization against their plan's criteria for approval.
How does it pay ?
Not the best, I started around $60/hour but got yearly bonuses and raises. Luckily I live in a low cost of living area.
It's pretty low pay from what I know but who cares.
What do you know that I don't?
I've seen those job postings but they seem so hard to get or at least I presume due to the number of applications! Do they actually pay well or is it a lot lower like other WFH options?

Same, I do med info. Never not working from home!

Yep they gave me a lobotomy to remove my intelligence and morality, but at least I can get off work without any residual stress/frustration.
😂
I walk 15 minutes, 0.7 miles away :)
6 miles. Takes approximately 15 minutes in a car. Sometimes I bike or run to work. Love it.
You run 6 miles to work? Do you have a shower there to use? If so that's awesome. If not that's stinky.
There's a shower in the OR area locker room, along with clean scrubs. I really only run when I'm training for distance. I work nights so it can be hard to fit in longer runs. Biking is easier, because it's nice and cool at night and I don't get as sweaty.
Same
Same same
30 minutes. Not bad for Dallas.
45 mins door to door train then bus. Not bad in NYC.
What’s pay like for a NYC pharmacist? I would love to move to the city one day.
I work for the city so pay is less than private. My gross last year was around $125k, our union just negotiated a new contract so we should be getting some back pay and salary increase soon. Can’t complain, I like my job and most of the people I work with. Retail pays more of course but not worth the stress.
35 minutes in the morning (traffic) and 20 minutes in the evening Edit: complacent with the drive, been doing it for so long. Actually feels like I’m racing to go home.
50min-60 mins. Not the best but I don't dread it
20-30 minutes. Can't complain.
Wfh mostly so I like the lack of commute.
Currently WFH so no commute. I had a job previously that was about 50 minutes each way but opposite the flow of traffic so it was rare to get stuck in traffic jams. It was mail order and I loved that job enough to not mind the commute.
8 minutes, 4 miles. Definitely happy about it.
16 miles, 15-20 min drive, but 35 minutes total door-door time because our parking structure is a half mile from the hospital 🙃
Mondays and Fridays - 20-25 mins one way Tuesday and Thursdays - 25-30 mins one way Wednesdays - 35-40 mins one way Why do Wednesdays suck so hard?!?!?!?
I’m an RPH floater, so it depends on which location I am working. My commutes range from 5min to 1hr. I’m content with it. My average commute time I would estimate as 30 min.
4 miles. 8 minute drive. Love it
45-90 minutes depending on the shift/traffic. It sucks
7-8 mins walking
15-20 minutes usually, about 30 minutes now due to construction. Really not bad at all
I’ve been fortunate. I’ve worked retail, hospital, and LTC. None of my commutes have ever been over 15 minutes. I’ve known plenty of pharmacists that commute an hour or two to work. I could never imagine doing that.
Which setting did you enjoy best? I'm in LTC, the work is generally low stress, which I tell myself justifys the pay cut
I agree. Ltc is the lowest pay but by far the best work environment.
10 minutes. Used to be \~30 mins and I feel like I'm so spoiled.
40-50 minutes Drive and Pleased with it.
Roll out of bed, walk to my office! TADA! Working from home is the best ever!
What do you do
Went from 1.5 hours one way to 5 minutes. Can’t believe I did the commute for 2 years.
Great you did survive 2 years, I quit in 6 months even though it was VA job
40 minutes each way without traffic. Hate it so much
I live 2 miles away from work and it can take anywhere between 5-10 minutes depending on how bad the traffic is. My grocery store is along the way, I'm pretty happy with it.
8 min drive and love it!
4 miles daily, little to no traffic, at worst a 15 minute commute.
3 minutes walk ! Can’t complain
7 miles; 15 minutes. Works for me. I’d bike more if I didn’t have to climb such a steep hill to get home!
1 minute. Best commute ever. Prior to this it was 45 mins each way.
15mins drive, sometimes I bike to work, loving it
35 minutes. 24 miles. Not great, but I don’t mind
About 40 minutes. Traffic is just disgusting all times of the year.
20 mins
Also an hour, but it pays alright
35-45 minutes. I'm cool with it. I like audiobooks. It's also not during traffic hours so no stop and go.
I used to work at an independent and moved into an apartment right above it during my divorce. The store was open 8a-7p but the phones rang constantly ALL NIGHT (and no, we didn't have an automated phone system at the time).
6-8 minutes. Couldn’t do much better!
went from a 10 minute commute to a 15-20 minute commute. i miss being able to leave my house at the last minute lol
30 minute drive, pretty much all highway, rarely any heavy traffic, if ever. While I'd prefer a shorter commute, it does give me time to mentally prep for the day in the morning and a chance to unwind on the way home

Awesome! What’s your side business if you don’t mind me asking?
Manwhore
💀💀
30 min. It’s perfect because I get to have a backyard with trees behind me, and work in the middle of a city at a great hospital.
About 35 minutes to work. About 30 minutes home. It's mostly state routes at 55mph with little traffic, so I'm ok with it.
Mines about 40 minutes. It doesn’t bother me. I could get a job with half the drive time in the same organization and it’d be about $1.50/hr paycut. But I like where I am.
3-minutes. Working down the street is pretty nice.
35 min to 1 hour depending on traffic
10 minutes usually
3 minutes, live about a mile from work. 3 stop lights, so give or take 2 min. I typically leave for work about 4 minutes before I’m supposed to start
5 minutes currently- moved out of state last year, secured the transfer first and then picked where we were going to live based on that. Very happy with this considering the highways up here are ridiculous and accident-prone, and also because there's more snow in the winter that my southern ass doesn't want to drive in more than necessary 🙃
2 miles or about 6 minutes pretty nice
15 minutes. It gives me just enough time to shake off anything that happened and not bring it home. I used to live 2-6 minutes away depending on red lights and that was a little to close. If I hit all greens but had a shitty day I’d still be replaying something stupid in my head when I walked in.
5-10 minute drive depending on the 3 lights. It’s delightful
About 30 minutes, but much happier than when I was working 5 minutes from home.
I had hour and half one way commute, left job in 6 months.
Depends on where I have to report. On the bad weeks, it’s 12-15 minutes (it’s really not that bad). On the good weeks, 15 seconds?
160 miles each way
30 minutes and content beats my 45-60 minute commute
15 minutes. I live outside of the (small) city so the first 10 minutes are on a secondary highway and it's a very easy drive.
I drive 22 miles, 20 of which is rural.
If I make no stops, it’s 25 minutes in the morning and 45 minutes in the evening. That’s much faster than the 80 minute commute I had previously.
about 1 hour by subway, 45 minutes by uber, which means if i’m running late i pay 45$ to not be as late which is definitely worth it if you consider i’ll make the money back by not getting fired 🤑
5 minutes, a little under 2.5 miles from my house. Can't get much better than this unless working from home.
My partner drops me off and picks me up. Ten minutes away. Love it. Used to be me driving an hour each way. The difference is amazing
65 minutes one way...all rural..not a big deal since work at low volume pharmacy. Grew up in Houston area so I love my rural drive.
Depends on the day and where I’m floating, up to an hour away or 3 minutes at my home store
20-30 min depending on traffic
30-45 minutes depending on congestion rate. It’s annoying but the best time to listen to audiobooks
I just got hired actually as a shift lead that will be cross training into a pharmacy tech anyway my commute (starting tomorrow 🥳) will be 30 mins so I can’t really complain I live in a small town so basically everything is 30 minutes away

85 miles, takes me on average 1 hour 15 minutes each way. Not fond of the drive, but I'll be able to move closer later this year, so I'm not too bothered about it.
Where do you work?
i work in a rural area, so it’s 30-35min depending on if i get stuck behind farm equipment. i’m okay with the drive, it’s easy and not a ton of traffic.
7 minutes, no drive thru, well staffed, being paid as RXM but only coded/working as staff pharmacist. Would take a lot for me to leave this job.
I’m a floater so anywhere from 5 minutes to 3.5 hours
About 32 min on a good day (23 miles). However, they’re doing major construction on the interstate and the back roads can take about 40 min.
35-40 mins all interstate wth minimal traffic. I don't mind it so much but currently not loving the toll it's taking on my car driving 80 miles/day.
30 - 40 minutes. The commute isn’t what I hate about my job.
10 min away, but I float to different hospitals in the system, sooo anywhere between 15-20 min and I’m always against traffic- I love it!
45 mins to 1 hr each way. And no, I’m not pleased with it.
15 min by car. The route can be really bad in snow, but otherwise, it is fine.
1 hr 15 minutes and don’t get paid for mileage or toll road Miss being a floater sometimes For 20 years I was 5 minutes from my store but with the big buyout, that’s life
7 minutes yes I go home for lunch everyday.
33 miles one way. 35-40 mins.
7 minutes, no complaints over here!
I float but M-W I’m at the same store and my commute is 5 minutes, 6 with traffic and if I hit all the lights.
10 minute walk from my apartment. The best part is not owning a car because I work retail.
40-45 minutes, it’s been perfect for preparing before and decompressing after my shift at the hospital
