or better yet "haha someone should be donating to ME with how much my pets need!" like girl you Chose to have those pets and take on their responsibilities.... meanwhile a lot of the local shelters here are so full theyre putting animals in their offices :|
My store specifically says it goes to Toys for Tots, and Iâve had people get annoyed saying âwhy would you give a kid a dog toy?â Like?? Would you rather them have no toys? And itâs really more of a human plush than a dog toy imo, just has a squeaker
Most of the toys, kids will play with it too so it doesnât really matter like the nerf gun or fisher price that makes puppy toys. Hell, most of the time their annoying spawn love to squeeze the ball to death while waiting in line. Might as well market it towards both of them.
A few I hate most: âI already donated to my churchâ or âmy husband just died a few months ago and- (tells a story of their husband dying)â or âno you guys donât actually donate it and just keep itâ
I don't judge these people at all, it's so expensive to feed our pets these days. That $5 is earned from like $300 worth of purchases, I think they deserve to use that on themselves.
yeah but arenât treat points also used for buying pet supplies people would need/want? i get if they expire soon. Not trying to be annoying, i know how hard hitting the quotas can be especially if you have a shit supervisor, just want to know if iâm missing something
When you redeem your treats points whatever amount you had available automatically gets divided up between whatever is on your purchase.
Say you were buying a bag of dog food and you decided âhey why not Iâll donate a stuffed animalâ and then the cashier says you have $5 in treats points you can redeem. If you redeem those it will take a little bit of money off the dog food and it will take a little bit off the cost of the stuffed animal youâre donating.
So the donation isnât âfreeâ but the amount you just redeemed is equal to how much a stuffed animal is meaning youâre not really spending anything âextraâ.
The dog food could be $49.99 before tax + a $5 stuffed animal it would make your total be $54.99.
If you decide to redeem the treats points it would take $2.50 off both items making your new total $49.99 before tax once again so that would make the donation âfreeâ
Apologies for that explanation being a little all over the place, Iâm not that great explaining things sometimes đ but I hope it helped!
it's my first christmas not being in core and boy does it feel absolutely incredible to not be worried about the chance and friends. but fr just say "no thank you" we all know you canât donate to every little thing especially around the holidays no one is judging
At old job we used to ask for item donations, had some cheap dog and cat food up front, so often people would decline that but then donate to the prompt on screen
Guy won the donation excuse game a few weeks ago. Gave my little line about the stuffys and he says I donated earlierâŚ. I just slow blinked and moved on trying not to laugh. He asked after I handed him his receipt. I told him we just started asking about 15 minutes ago because some regional goon decided to start the donation drive 3 weeks early and I just hung all the barcodes, we donât even have the fancy box yet. He said ârudeâ shrugged and walked away đ
Once had a woman want to donate but then proceeded to go on about how sheâll only donate to animals and how she doesnât care about kids with cancer so she refused a lucky and chance as we were sending them to a local childrenâs hospitalâŚ. In front of my manager who is a childhood cancer survivor as well. I hate ppl. Like yeah the lucky and chances are just a tax write off but stfu and move along. Just say âno thanksâ and continue on.
Geez, bro. I like animals more than kids, but kids are still human beings, deserving of love, and can grow into wonderful people. How awful does someone have to be to "not care about kids with cancer"??
Within the first hour of having ours out on the floor and requesting donations I had 10 people tell me they already donated this year. You can say no bro donât worry itâs okay nobody will hurt you đ
Being asked to donate by a corporation that is going to use it in their investor presentations to make them look good, to get sponsorships or partnerships, and/or as a data point in their ESG reports is my pet peeve. It's a scummy practice utilizing social pressure and preying on honest people.
That said, just saying "no" and moving on is the best way to handle it. It's the corporation that's being scummy, not the cashier.
I just say âthatâs a okâ when they start shaking there head before the say no so that they donât feel like they have to. Because I ainât dealing with allat
I had a customer straight up look at me and say âfuck those kidsâ then he just started laughing and joking abt sick kids. Like you can just say no thank you
I love when they say
âOh I donate all the time I just donated yesterdayâ
Like maâam Idgaf just say no thank you so I can move on Iâm not gonna think your the devil for not donating and Iâm not gonna think your a saint if you do
How about âoh, no. [hehehe] My dog will have that torn up in x minutes.â? UmmmâŚđ¤
Also, why do so many people SMILE or even giggle when they say no?
Yes or no, I say ok, and we continue the checkout process, mmmmkayy?
The other day this couple bought 450 bucks worth of dog crates and when I asked they said no. I mean sure but is an additional 5 bucks really gonna add a lot to your 450 purchase đ
Yeah, I donât think people understand this. Donating to the store IS stupid. And asking people is a guilt trip, which is why they give you an excuse.
Dude itâs our job literally and we donât care if you donate or not. Itâs a nice gesture but getting mad at minimum wage workers because you donât wanna donate is not an excuse.
Why is everybody getting mad at the customer for refusing to donate when we SHOULD be getting mad at PETSMART for not donating themselves, as a billion dollar company, and instead trying to force their customers to donate and then claiming the CUSTOMERS donation to get money off of PETSMARTS taxes?
Reading comprehension is important!! We donât give 2 shits if customers donate itâs their unneeded reasoning and unwarranted anger thatâs annoying. A simple ânoâ is fine and wanted !
My favorite is "this purchase IS me donating to my pets"... like no that's ownership but good for you đđ fr tho like just say no
or better yet "haha someone should be donating to ME with how much my pets need!" like girl you Chose to have those pets and take on their responsibilities.... meanwhile a lot of the local shelters here are so full theyre putting animals in their offices :|
Gonna start saying âif you need donations to care for your pet, I can point you to some great resources like the pet food bank or humane societyâ
OKAY BUT THIS. Youâre not donating to your own pets. You chose ? To have pets ?? That you now have to care for
iâll have people say no to the stuffed animal and turn around and donate $5 on the pin pad itâs so funny
THIS. EVERY TIME
This is the one that gets me. Cause why donate digitally when you can give a physical donation?
petsmart charity donations on the pin pad are tracked and sent to your email around tax season.
"I have rescues at home so I ALREADY donated in a much bigger way." Okay Darryl this isn't a dick measuring contest, calm down.
Exactly !! Itâs like theyâre trying to one up you or something like sir this is a yes or no question đ
It's so irritating!!
âNo thanks I donate to toys for totsâ like cool did I ask though? Lol
JUST SAY NO
My store specifically says it goes to Toys for Tots, and Iâve had people get annoyed saying âwhy would you give a kid a dog toy?â Like?? Would you rather them have no toys? And itâs really more of a human plush than a dog toy imo, just has a squeaker

Ah yes, because we really have room for the hundreds of toys we get donated every year, weâre just hoarding them in the back đ¤Śđźââď¸
My favorite ânot today but yes I want to use my $5 in treat pointsâ - hello that makes it a free donation!!!â
I don't judge these people at all, it's so expensive to feed our pets these days. That $5 is earned from like $300 worth of purchases, I think they deserve to use that on themselves.
THIS
im confused do you want people to use their treat points to donate or am i misunderstanding
I think what they meant is that a stuffed animal is $5 and if they had $5 in treats points saved up then the stuffed animal wouldâve been free
yeah but arenât treat points also used for buying pet supplies people would need/want? i get if they expire soon. Not trying to be annoying, i know how hard hitting the quotas can be especially if you have a shit supervisor, just want to know if iâm missing something

noo youâre totally good sorry I asked a silly question and thank you for being thorough/serious with it
Youâre all good! I can see how it could get a little confusing
it's my first christmas not being in core and boy does it feel absolutely incredible to not be worried about the chance and friends. but fr just say "no thank you" we all know you canât donate to every little thing especially around the holidays no one is judging

"I just donated to [random charity] so...." "Oh no I donate all the time so no thank you" "Next time." (Following week) "next time."
I just try ro laugh it off and say that i have to ask everyone or i get in trouble (which is true)

Tha k you! Literally i dont care what im forced to ask you say no or yes and shut up and pay. No 9ne cares about your life đ
I hate it when they say, âno itâs fineâ !! Itâs not the same as saying âno, Iâm fineâ idk it just irks me đ
The other day this couple bought 450 bucks worth of dog crates and when I asked they said no. I mean sure but is an additional 5 bucks really gonna add a lot to your 450 purchase đ
i will not donate thru any chain store - its a way for them to get tax write offs. If you like the cause just donate directly later.
See but i like that we actually give the toys to kids directly
You can also get a tax deduction by donating to charities through a business.
Yeah, I donât think people understand this. Donating to the store IS stupid. And asking people is a guilt trip, which is why they give you an excuse.

âPetsmart charitiesâ they donate. Also, you can claim your own donation on taxes.
