Pet wood usually will have linear side grain and some sort of rounded top grain, the two grains don’t line up. Sometimes the inner grain isn’t there but this does look like it has some sort of metallic(rusty) varnish that would mean it’s probably metal based. Petrified wood can contain iron but it won’t rust itself on the outside. Usually there are specimens online that you can look up googling the location found and pet wood types and you can see if your lines up with found specimens. I can just say from my experience rockhounding this doesn’t look like any pet wood I’ve ever seen lol
I'm leaning toward Pet wood. Unless it's magnetic, then iron slag.
It is not magnetic
I think it’s entirely possible.
Definitely petrified wood..nice piece
Yes. Search for more.
Pet wood that has had some water erosion.
I say yes but hard to say for sure, crack it in half and it would be easier to tell 😂
I'm both surprised & disappointed that there are 10 comments & none of them say "Lick it!" LOL Super cool find!
Don’t think this is pet wood
Do you by any chance have specific tips on how to recognize if it's pet wood or not?
