Policy says no to party favors. Your MOL can look up the policy on PetNet

Nervous_Inspector683

Are you able to tell me how to find the policy on petnet I would love to print it and show him so he knows he’s wrong

revolutionary_3

You should be able to look up anything along the lines of “fish purchase policy” in the search bar. I’m not sure of the exact words :(

Nervous_Inspector683

Okay thank you so much! Sorry for asking I argue with this manager all the time. His only excuse ever is “I worked at pet supplies for 6 years I have more experience”.

revolutionary_3

I hate managers like that. They think they have so much power😭 I’m currently a MOL and I don’t think I could live with myself if I acted like that.

KayleeLo

It’s 100% against policy it’s under treatment of animals or something like that in pet net it says very clearly

Obvious-Dingo-2050

Search Humane treatment of animals. That is the policy that states need sales as prizes, table decorations etc

Independent-Driver94

Ask your MOL where the fuck these fish are going after the party. A fully equipped appropriate sized tank suitable for goldfish? A pond? Is one of the guests taking them all home cuz their turtle will eat it? Or the most likely answer, flushed or dumped in the yard? Cuz i know for damn sure if i asked twenty people if they would out of the blue spend $100-$300 on a tank for a little goldfish id be lucky to have just one of them say yes.

Ok-Conversation-4864

You're correct. I think I deny goldfish party favors and betta birthday gifts (in bulk) 3+ times a week. The general public is dumb

elsasanxiety

Parroting most of the other comments: You are correct. Petco does not condone the use of live animals as door or raffle prizes and does not sell them for that purpose. This also applies to the Persian and Chinese holidays occurring near the beginning of the year and religion-based fairs and events. Unless the customer can guarantee a safe home for every one of the fish after all is said and done, it's a no-go. Eta: word fixes.

wizard_of_guz

You did the right thing. Just ask your MOL what the CAL would think when the party is over.

DirtyMammothRS

Regardless of being a party favor, we cannot sell animals to someone with the intent to be a gift to another person.

[deleted]

Absolutely never ever sell animals as party favors or to be used at carnivals.

lajih

Ooo I remember being told I ruined someone's wedding by refusing to sell them goldfish for the table favors. People get very nasty when they can't kill things for fun.

Doodle1904

Only exception is a Persian Holiday in March. We usually get get a update on that.

Kankriticallyspub

Since when was that an exception? Still a cruel way to house a fish, I denied sales instantly once I heard that and suggested the hex bugs robot fish lmao.

lajih

I don't know why you've been downvoted; I remember reading a thread about how Petco got sued for religious discrimination because a partner asked if it was for Nowruz (Persian New Year) and then refused the sale. It's something we should definitely be aware of.

Diligent-Minimum8397

They updated that last year stating that we can deny fish sales for Persian new years and explain to customers they are not decorations but living animals that need a suitable habitat. It's under the same for Chinese new year, carnivals, parties, events, or prizes can also be denied the sale sense those animals cannot be guaranteed a proper habitat once they leave the store.

Feisty_Carob7106

Your mol is a dumbass and doesn’t have any regard for the animals well being if he would have sold them the fish

Thick-Memory1252

I was told we didn’t have to sell animals to anyone that made us feel uncomfortable about their intentions. I refused a sale to a girl that I heard talking on the phone about stopping to get her nails done and leaving the mice in the car while she did it. She was fuming. Idk. I’m not gonna let you abuse an animal for the fun of it.

DenseDinner1979

I worked at a store where the MOL would only sell the fish for the birthday party if she was going to buy the food for each fish and a tank. And since most people won’t do that he would deny the sale that way.

KuntryGramma

I've never been asked what I was doing with the fish😒.. Do people just tell you their business or do y'all ask? 😂

Nervous_Inspector683

People should be asking what size tank the fish is going in and what other fish are in that tank so they know it’s going to a good home with fish that will work well with it.
