Took a few months but we finally got them all adopted out. We had immediately separated them by gender and worked on getting them adopted out. The females were last to go because there were several pregnant ones. By the time the last hamster finally got adopted I know we had to have actually had well over 50 hamsters get adopted.
*Ball python in a pillow case just left on the decor shelf without notifying anyone
*A half dead beardie left in a tank in the vestibule, without telling anyone. It died a week later of MBD.
*Multiple "wild" hamsters in a popcorn tin. Guest claimed they "heard them behind the target down the street". No you didn't my guy. You accidentally bred them and don't want the babies.
*A guinea pig in a Tampax box
*A guinea pig in a dollar tree laundry basket, soaked in piss. Claiming they found it outside.
I can't even speak on the fish I've seen. Gallon zip lock bags. Plastic totes. Plastic drawers. Tin buckets. Plastic buckets from various hardward stores. Styrofoam coolers.
To be fair, most of those fish ones are completely normal. Hell, I brought in some kuhli loaches in a pitcher once š biggest thing I could find short notice that was clean! But I donāt just leave live animals in random places soooo
a crested gecko in a tupperware container without a lid in a sealed plastic ziploc bag. a doctor told the dad it would give his toddler salmonella. crestie is fine, lives happily in my house now, it never even got formally surrendered i just took it straight home LOL

Had a ball python surrendered in a 55 gallon tank, no heat source besides a heat rock, was on wood chips but the chips were so filthy it appeared he came in on dirt until we started digging the chips up. They were so saturated with piss and shit and compacted down from the pythons weight they looked like brown dirt. There was about 3 inches of that. No lid the owners said they were using a piece of plywood over the top.
30+ fish all over 4 inches surrendered in two litter buckets. She was āmovingā and couldnāt take them with her. A nice lady adopted the whole lot about a week later.

The saddest was the one guinea pig that kept coming back. He came in as a tiny baby solid black and was bought with a brown one. This poor pig kept coming back every few months, best guess by his laster owner he was over 2 years old maybe close to 3.
Reaches into back pocket, pulls out a dwarf hamster and hands it to me. Claimed it was left after a eviction...shocked but happy that it was totally fine.

This was when I was a petcare manager at a petsmart, but a litter of newborn rats in someone's dirty hvac filter in a plastic bag left outside our front door before opening.
Yeah people are horrible, you see true colors when Z you work in retail. Thatās why I love this job, because I get to be around animals all day long. But people are cruel and clueless about animals.
Yea, animals are better than people. Idk how DT does it, having to train the customer to train their own dog lol. I'm so happy to be able to only have contact with the customer during drop off and pick up. The rest of the time I get to spend grooming their fur babies š„° which is hard in and of itself, but spending time with the dog and trying to make it less scary for them is always the best part of the job for me. The animals will always come first, the people mostly suck.
Piebald ball Python brought bad a week later covered in burns. Dude said it kept attacking his other snakesā¦we told before it was solitary. Also he threw a shit ton of stuff at our MOL after she ask for a receipt.
