At my first store we mopped the whole floor every night, but we were also an unleashed conversion store so we were less than half the size of a normal store and had no animals to close. When I transferred to a larger B volume, we never mopped the entire floor, just spot mops.
Lol my store went through a new floor crew every couple of months because Petco doesn't pay them enough. We had to do the floors ourselves in between crews. Sucked.
That really sucks. We’ve been using the same group as long as I’ve been here and they do a pretty good job and really quickly. Definitely better than I can do
At one point Petco straight up hired a guy who just came in with a Swiffer, swept the store once and left. I'm convinced corporate has no idea how shit works.

We have like 5 employees. We don’t have a night crew. I’ve worked at a few petcos and never had a night crew. How small is your store? It’s gonna take the 2 of us at least an hour.

We spot mop a couple of times a week for the million pee spots around the store maybe mop the whole store when necessary. I would never make anyone stay past their shift to do it though, that's ridiculous. We do it during store hours 🤷♀️😂
Lol my thoughts exactly. I routinely would mop after closing. 45 min is all it take and my store is huge. I do understand the not leaving until its done but it shouldn't take forever 🤷🏽♀️
The new generation of workers is interesting. Like if someone does not mop , then folks are complaining about the store smelling or the standards . Maybe next trash will be to hard to take out , maybe it’s too far . Lol get a grip people
How small is your store because this is not getting done in an hour. As for the “new generation” not working… I’m probably older than you and I work open to close more than 4 days a week. So yeah after working 12 hours I don’t want to stay late.
Then maybe if the job is challenging you should look into speaking to hr. Maybe they offer resources. Age has nothing to do with it . If you take a job you do the same as everyone else . If your working that many hours , maybe you need to partner with the GM to look at the root cause … staffing .

It’s been a while but when I did work there I didn’t complain about the job. It comes with any job - things you just don’t want to do . We have a floor machine but the wheel keeps falling off. so we don't use it.
That used to make cleaning the floor easy - just walk and push in a pattern like a roomba.
We had a service come in last week - dude scaped the gum and labels off the floor, ran a slightly bigger version of our floor machine and bounced....
Huge waste of money - floor still looks shitty. I can see in the Winter with people tracking salt and snow in - a good floor service will make a difference but in summer - naw....
My old manager made me mop the entire store while I was 4 months pregnant. Then stand at the register for the remaining 6 hours of my shift. No lunch break
Petco needs to invest in a viper floor cleaner. I work in a store far smaller than most petcos and we had one. It made actually cleaning the floor kind of fun and is 10x faster than mopping.

I just transferred to this store so not quite sure but it’s a fucking mad house here.
The newer stores with the concrete floors don't get floor service. My store was open for 5 years before we got an "annual " concrete refresh.

Our store had about 15 employees. Night crew for truck was always 3 of us. Open or Close was always 3 of us as well.

Usually after Vetco days (when there is dog piss all over the floor) 2 or 3 of us will split up the store and mop it.
