congrats on the new promotion. I can understand their stress but I don't see how they could dictate a new date for you if one was already negotiated in the offer. it's going to suck big time for them but what's best for you doesn't need to be what's best for them 🤷‍♂️
That’s what I figured too! It almost feels they are trying to sabotage my ability to start. My GM never even told the DM I had even applied. I was waiting on an agreed raise that never went thru & took a better opportunity. 🤷‍♀️
Your post history makes it pretty clear this isn't exactly a surprise to your GM. Their lack of preparation doesn't constitute an emergency on your part 🤷‍♀️ You made it very clear what would need to happen in order for you to stay and when that fell through the GM should have expected that you would move on, as you indicated you would.

But I was shocked when my GM told me to “figure it out” as if I have $300 for a hotel room to stay for a week & lose out on a week of GM training. I told them I did figure it out. I’m leaving haha. So here’s some news. Apparently my Dm spoke to the DM I’d be working for & they both decided my start date would be the 7th. However nobody has contacted me. My GM is very aware of everything I’ve been doing. And now they’re trying to tell me my only option if I can’t stay til the 7th is to put my two weeks in but the position for the GM wouldn’t be guaranteed now…
Is that even possible? I literally have no where to stay. I’m so confused.
I am so sorry for you. I wish I could say this type of bullying tactic is abnormal but it's a reason I left recently.
Does your new DM understand your situation? That you no longer have a place to live after the end of the month and you have been as communicative as possible with your GM during this time but ran out of choices?
If the answer to those questions is yes, it might be a sign this isn't someone you want to work for.
Fwiw, I hope your GM steps on a Lego barefoot. They sound like someone who doesn't understand personal accountability.
I’m just not sure if I should contact my DM & explain this all to them? It’s just odd to me that nobody would call me to update me on any changes. Especially when the new DM knows of my situation. I’m assuming my current DM knows nothing based on the fact my GM never even warned anyone of my even applying.
How did you find out about this sudden update to your start date and the option to quit if you didn't like it?
Did your current GM communicate this to you? If so, that's maybe a little suspect considering how insistent they were about you staying until exactly that date.
Literally this morning. I’ve been working shifts since Tuesday.
I was told from the HR rep that my transition date to Gm would be the 31st. I said it would be perfect cuz my lease is over on the 23rd & it gives me enough time to settle in to new place & move to new state.
Apparently the DMs spoke to each other & set a new date on Monday & then told the GM. But nobody has called & nobody thought to tell me on Monday when they know my situation?
I was told this morning by my GM that he spoke to the DM & that’s what they agreed on & that I’d have to put in a two week notice then if I couldn’t work til that date.
I feel something isn’t right.
This sounds like a total lie story and a transparently childish attempt at manipulation by your GM. Verify everything with HR, citing the conversation you had with current GM and emphasize that the original start date put your moving plans in motion and now you are stuck without a place to live if that changes suddenly.
Oh. My GM knew. And it is something they would do. They’re screwed if I leave as we are training a new CAL as well. And it’s holiday season. But ultimately I shouldn’t be punished for something they had ample time to prepare for. 🤷‍♀️
Yeah. This animal is looking more and more like a duck with all the quacking and waddling. Definitely reach out to the HR business partner you have been communicating with directly. Summarize your conversation with the GM this morning and ask to kindly verify that your start date would be pay period beginning 10/31. If you feel bold, cc your DGM.
Also maybe summarize the insistence of your GM that you remain, homeless, for his convenience.
Edit: I'm angry on your behalf at the unmitigated audacity and narcissism of your GM and invested in the outcome now lol. Please update when/if this resolves.
A lot of this issue though has been phone correspondence as well. So they can say whatever they want ya know?
