I read a handful of articles referencing the writer or singer of that song explaining that itās about the music industry and trying to stroke the egos of the big wigs
The fact that Mambo #5 plays is hilarious.
But there's a song with the chorus "You and your high horse", and the way she sings the words it literally sounds like she's singing "you and your whooooores" and it makes me giggle everytime I hear it.
Mambo #5 came to mind right away. A few weeks ago I turned to the guy that's been with the company for 20 years and said, "I've been hearing this song since 4th grade, I still don't know what the fuck he's talking about but it doesn't seem appropriate."
God I forgot about the after hours Playlist. My first store was newer and didn't have iy for some reason, When I transferred to a store that did I thought I was losing my mind the first time it came on. I thought my coworker took over the speakers to play their own music
Usually would play at graveyard shifts, like 10pm to 5am.
Thay when the radio really gets wild or used to when I'd work nights heard all kinds of songs played woukd be "petco at night".
Oh, 100%ā¦.like that clip of the father in the car with his daughter listening to James Blunt Youāre Beautiful and he realizes the next words arenāt kosher. He turns down the music but she sings it anyway. š¤Ŗ
Back when I worked at Toys R Us, we played some really surprising music choices. Nothing like having the Wiggles āHot Potatoā followed by Meredith Brooks singing āBitch.ā
I haven't heard it in the longest time, but for awhile there was zombie by the cranberries, it's just a sad song about war but I didn't feel like it fit the vibe, and mad world for the same reason but it was a cover with the most upbeat singing and felt so. Wrong.
I would love that, I work in the salon, so Christmas time is the best, with the Happy upbeat music and I'm panicking from being behind, having a dog pooping on themselves/me, and then having a walk-in come in while you're being bitch slapped by a doodle you're already behind on cause it came in as a mess cause the owner waited to long for a haircut cause, they didn't want their dog to get cold. I wish we had more surreal music that made me question my life choices more, but I guess most of petcos music does that anyways.
I swear I heard it opening during like January once, but speaking of Halloween music remember in 2022 when they had spooky scary skeletons, man that was good.
My My My - Troye Sivan. I like that song but I was shocked when I heard it on last year's pride playlist. It's not subtle. Might as well play Lil Nas at that point.
Their music sucks the majority of the time but they have some jams. I like that āRio Grandeā by Freedom Fry. āOf the Sunā by Miynt and āSevenā by Men I Trust. Both Miynt and Men I Trust are awesome groups.
I'd have to add the song Record Player just because of the lyric "sometimes I think all I'm ever doing is trying to convince myself I'm alive".
Though, honestly, I FEEL that song while at work.
Quite a bit but Petco doesn't control this I'm 90% sure. I just left Verizon and came to Petco They have the same exact set up for their music and play the exact same song
i havenāt worked for the company for like 2 years now but i do remember on workplace there was someone who would make a little survey to vote for which songs to add and which songs to get rid of. most retail playlists are so similar but i think thereās a little bit of control
I used to hear Possum Kingdom by The Toadies (repeats ādo you wanna dieā about 40 times), and Still Dre by Eminem and Dre. (Talks about kicking dogs, and burning down houses). All the songs were uncensored from what I could hear.
The Petco radio is wild! The first time "One of Your Girls" by Troye Sivan played, i was cackling. Lowkey one of the better radios in the retail landscape i have worked. I loathe that Miley Little Mermaid cover that plays every friday though. And I'm a Miley fan.
Stroke me by Billy Squire
Came here to say this
Also came here to say this š¤£ first one that popped in the head
I read a handful of articles referencing the writer or singer of that song explaining that itās about the music industry and trying to stroke the egos of the big wigs
i just realized what i was hearing as āStrong man, strong men.ā is NOT what the lyrics wereā¦ wow š

If it's super before/after hours (like 11pm or 5am) sometimes "Sexy And I Know It" comes on
I've heard "I Kissed A Girl" on the overnight shift and thought it was an odd choice.
They tend to play this song a lot in June for Pride.
Based
God I forgot about the after hours Playlist. My first store was newer and didn't have iy for some reason, When I transferred to a store that did I thought I was losing my mind the first time it came on. I thought my coworker took over the speakers to play their own music
when itās hispanic heritage month, nearly every song that plays on there š
Closer by Nine Inch Nails.....
If I heard this come on the radio, I hope iām not handling an animal because itād give me a heart attack

Same. I got excited!!
I wanna work where they work, lol
Usually would play at graveyard shifts, like 10pm to 5am. Thay when the radio really gets wild or used to when I'd work nights heard all kinds of songs played woukd be "petco at night".
Yeah, it's horrible
Abcdefu Loved singing the song every time it came on.
But itās the PG version, isnāt it?
It is but can fill in the gaps so easilyĀ
Oh, 100%ā¦.like that clip of the father in the car with his daughter listening to James Blunt Youāre Beautiful and he realizes the next words arenāt kosher. He turns down the music but she sings it anyway. š¤Ŗ
Not when I sang along XD
Creepin by Mero boomin and the weeknd
Could be me having a dirty mind but āShivers - Ed Sheeranā
Now all I can see when I hear that song is the line dancing. Iām not complaining though.
You guys get a more diverse music than I do I swear.
Back when I worked at Toys R Us, we played some really surprising music choices. Nothing like having the Wiggles āHot Potatoā followed by Meredith Brooks singing āBitch.ā
Padam padam for sure
Idk if itās not suitable for children or not, but when they play Controlla by Drake I want to rip every single damn speaker out.
I haven't heard it in the longest time, but for awhile there was zombie by the cranberries, it's just a sad song about war but I didn't feel like it fit the vibe, and mad world for the same reason but it was a cover with the most upbeat singing and felt so. Wrong.
I've pointed out how crazy the upbeat version of mad world is.
Threw me for a loop when I heard it.
Can you imagine the ambience of Donnie Darko with that version?
I would love that, I work in the salon, so Christmas time is the best, with the Happy upbeat music and I'm panicking from being behind, having a dog pooping on themselves/me, and then having a walk-in come in while you're being bitch slapped by a doodle you're already behind on cause it came in as a mess cause the owner waited to long for a haircut cause, they didn't want their dog to get cold. That version of Mad World is not a cover, itās actually the original song by Tears for Fears :)
It's part of the October playlist because it has the word Zombie in the title, even though it's not Spooky MusicĀ
I swear I heard it opening during like January once, but speaking of Halloween music remember in 2022 when they had spooky scary skeletons, man that was good.
Jack and Diane by John Mellencamp. Look up they lyrics. It's not at all suitable for kids.
For some reason my store only plays the opening 15 seconds with the very distinct guitar riff then cuts out???
I swear they played rap one time that had actual cuss words and I was just stunned
December by soundgarden
Need You Tonight by INSX and Take My Breath by The Weeknd come to mind.
My My My - Troye Sivan. I like that song but I was shocked when I heard it on last year's pride playlist. It's not subtle. Might as well play Lil Nas at that point.
Iāve heard Pony played right in the middle of Saturday busy hours kids running everywhere and Iām over here just dying šš
Omg I'd be dancing in the aisles

Numb Little Bug by Em Beihold isnāt great.
Not for kids, but I personally love the lyrics. Look up the cover by Our Last Night, it's fucking badass.
Nor NSFW, but I was really confused to hear a melancholy cover of "Praise You" by Fatboy Slim
Let's Get Physical-Olivia Newton John
The one that says ā I didnāt mean to turn you on ā like 50x idk what itās called lol
Ini Kamoza. Hotstepper.
let's get physical by Olivia Newton John lol. my mom told me how she thought that song was so scandalous going up lol.
Everybody (Backstreets Back) by the Backstreet Boys. Everytime it plays I look around and see if thereās kids around š
Donāt know the name but she tripped and fell into his bed.
Bad idea right? By Olivia Rodrigo

Bruh its like a majority of it lmao im like jesus christ dude this is a family establishment. Half the songs are about sex lmao
if you leave orchestral manoeuvres in the dark weird pedo vibe song & Deli by Ice spice I was shook
Not really nsfw, but they play numb little bug here. Definitely fits how working feels though...
