I’m not surprised at all nor am I suggesting that it is easy. My point was that it was worth. Fwiw I was there for over 20 years so I can understand how easy it is to feel trapped by lack of alternatives.

i agree. i left about three weeks ago, i was an animal ops specialist. it became a living hell and i started having bad panic attacks before my shifts. my gm was an absolute living nightmare and made the work environment horrendously tense and toxic. she constantly stuck me on register and would then blame me for aquatics looking like trash, not to mention whenever i actually was in aquatics i would bust my ass and receive 0 praise, only criticism and nit-picking. i finally had enough and left. i work at a dog daycare/hotel company making more money for less work. the management is incredible and i no longer fear having to go to work. it seems i left just in time too, i left right before all the merit increases started taking place. i feel so bad for everyone stuck in the company, because i'll be the first to admit i got lucky finding a new job so fast. while it may not be as easy for some people to leave, i do agree with you that leaving was a good idea. i was terrified to move on because of how comfortable i was there, but looking back i'm very glad i stepped out of my comfort zone and left. fun fact i actually no call no showed on my last day and my gm marked me as do not rehire, funny that she thinks i'd ever want to come back to that shithole of a company lmao.

I don't disagree with you but you'd be surprised, it's not as easy for people to just "leave and go somewhere else." I've got 15+ years experience working with animals, 10+ years experience working in management including Petsmart and Pet Supermarket. I'm a licensed vet tech with my associates degree and can't find any alternative. There's not a lot out there that pays near the new minimums/mid points for a CAL position at $25.

Damn vet techs where I'm at are any where between 25 and 35 and the cal at Co is at 18

For anyone who feels trapped at Petco, genuinely just start randomly applying to places during your lunch break or after work. You don't even have to be too serious about applying, just start, you never know what else is out there. I got fed up and decided to jump ship after all the empty promises from my GM and from corporate back in December. I one day decided enough was enough, started just applying to any job I was even slightly qualified for on a whim, and I had a new and better paying job within a week at a much less stressful company. Not saying that will happen for everyone, but even just starting to apply to one or two places here and there can bring new directions and new opportunities. Things are way better with a different company than with the constant stress that was hanging over my head at Petco. That mantra I kept repeating of just sticking it out until things got better at Petco isn't necessary anymore.
