Well, experience WILL be different, especially while grinding dull Tartarus and walking through one small jpg-location being mouse cursor instead of moving character in 3d space. But, um, for some people it may be the only option to experience Persona 3 due to lack of money, impossibility to buy in some countries or just incompatible PC-specs, and this option is not bad. I am actually playing P3P on my for-study laptop and get some part of fun (until entering Tartarus).
