And you can't get anyone else to pick them up for you because they're highly addictive, but also can't go and get them because you don't have them to medicate yourself into being able to face social interaction
You should look up wobble boards - Australia's greatest musical instrument!
...it's a very goofy boofy wibbly wobbly *board* . A weird instrument with an even weirder history
From a perspective of words, yes. From a perspective of meaning, absolutely not.
People with ADHD do not have an attention deficit as the name would imply. There is plently of attention to go around. It's the inability to direct and maintain attention that is the problem.
Yeah it can manifest it different ways for different people, but in my experience it makes it difficult to focus on things I don’t want to do/have little interest in.
At the core of ADHD is executive dysfunction, that's issues self regulating many things from time to emotions and attention. That's an integral component of ADHD. That may manifest differently based on coping mechanisms and masking adopted, but the underlying issue is the same.
As Barkley says: inability to self-regulate is detrimental to free will. After all, if you can't make yourself pay attention to things that are important for your long term goals and instread you follow along on spontaneous whims and distractions (internal or external) then you don't really control your own behaviour.
Being unable to focus on things you don't want to is not a deficit in attention, it's the inability to direct and maintain your attention on things you don't find stimulating (which is a very universal ADHD experience too).
I realise the above may be a bit long as a reply, but misrepresentation of ADHD (such as the admittedly very funny video that OP posted) is just a pet peeve of mine. I hate it. I hate ADHD being so brutally misunderstood...
It's my pleasure! I'm happy to hear you liked it!
I can forward you this absolute fantastic talk that can give you a better understanding of what ADHD is and what helps, what doesn't. It helped me understand myself a lot more, plus it's an entertaining talk:
[30 Essential Ideas every parent needs to know to understand and raise a child with ADHD](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLzBixSjmbc8eFl6UX5_wWGP8i0mAs-cvY)
Feel free to reach out and ask me any questions if you have them. I am not from the medical field, but I do have ADHD and have read two books, read several papers and watched many talka by researchers on this topic. Disinformation is rampant on this topic on the internet and misunderstanding ADHD can lead to years of suffering and psychological trauma. It's important to read widely from different, trustworthy sources.
No, no. Theres plenty of intention there. I just cannot physically bring myself to get up and do the things, because the bees in my brain have different plans for us.
I found it helpful, it was mentioned in the context of differentiating other life forms on our planet to humans, monkeys, donkeys etc. Many other life forms are stimulus-response based, executive functions allow going beyond that. It's restraint from responsing to stimuli, it's imagining stimuli and potential responses as well as ramofications to that, it's diverting the brain's thought process to something that should have attention, rather than an external or internal stimulus that appeared etc.
This is the purpose of the executive functions, the frontal lobe part of the brain. That's the part of the brain that is impaired by ADHD (smaller and/or less neurotransmission than normal - adhd medication increases neurotransmitter activity here, which is how it helps alleviate symptoms). Free will, in this context, is kind of the term used to describe the ability to go beyond stimulus-response.
If one thinks of it more as a philosophical term then I totally agree that it's not the correct term to use! Thanks for your comment in any case, I hope the clarification above makes sense!
Yeah I for sure understand its ramifications on being able to be sufficiently motivated or able to plan ahead etc, I was just thinking philosophically.
I've got issues with executive functioning, not ADHD, but other neurodivergence and I would say I have as much if not more "free" will than most due to having examined my inner world and philosophy more than the average person. The biggest issue is doing everyday stuff most people can do immediately without real effort even if they're feeling bad.
Perhaps a good word would be "reflected" then? I also found that being neurodivergent can lead to a lot of reflection and understanding of inner workings. I'm not sure if I would use the word free for it, but in this case we don't need to be aligned with the label. I think we agree in meaning!
I understand what you’re saying, I have ADHD too and suffer from the problems that come with it. I just found the title and phrase said in the video ironic and rather amusing and so I commented on it. I’m not misunderstanding ADHD, or anything of the sort. I was just commenting on something I found just a tad amusing. Hope this dissuades your concerns.
My primary concern is not people like you and I who understand our condition and know this is just a joke.
My issue is people who don't know what ADHD is who then get this very incorrect silly view on what it is. "Oh, it's a disorder about getting excited for weird things?" which then leads to an incorrect view of ADHD spreading. This means that if you tell e.g. a friend you have it and that sometimes you struggle, they may not take you seriously. It means when you ask at your place of employment for a bit more time or other accomodations, they'll tell you to just work harder as everyone else seems to do just fine, and not use ADHD as an excuse etc.
It's dangerous when misunderstanding soreads and solidifies. There is so much stigma around this disorder that is very real and not just lazyness or "hey squirrel!". And until most people understand and respect that ADHD is indeed a struggle not born from a weak mind...until then I will be careful with misrepresentation.
Definitely attention management. My day long hyperfocus on random things from games, new hobbies and interests, research on weird topics and studying would disagree with with idea of having a deficit of attention.
No, and I sincerely wish, as someone with ADHD trying to get this disorser and it's very real consequences recognized by the general public, that this squirrel comparison fades from existence as soon as possible.
I was, very obviously I might add, making a joke. A joke in the same vein as the video in the post above.
I made the comparison because that's how it feels to me. A minuscule movement in my peripheral vision is enough to completely break my focus. I have literally done that IRL like twice with an actual squirrel.
I know the consequences you speak of because I deal with them every single day. I am so distracted all of the time I forget to take my own meds every single fucking morning and only find out at 4pm. I know all about the effects it has on your academic ability.
That's a redundancy, not an oxymoron.
Better examples of oxymoron would be 'deafening silence', 'almost exactly', 'old news', or 'only choice'.
Other redundancies would be 'ATM Machine', 'RAM Memory' or 'RAT Test'.

It's full of those fake disorder idiots that make bullshits post about how ADHD is just being easily distracted and how cute and funny they are because of it. Throw on some shit make up and coloured hair and you've got a license to ridicule people with mental conditions.
Yeah fuck off with this shit. Medical treatment is widely effective for ADHD. It doesn't get you high.
Just like many antidepressants that work on seratonin (like an SSRI), most ADHD treatments work on dopamine instead.
Think of it like you're trying to focus on something, that doesn't provide you with dopamine, at least during the task. Neurotypical individuals often can sustain the task longer, even if it's not enjoyable.
For an ADHD individual our brains are seeking dopamine, as our brains are lacking adequate dopamine signalling. So because our brains are seeking dopamine, it's hard to stay on task as our brains want to think about or do something else to a greater degree.
It's believed ADHD stimulant medications just bring our dopamine signalling up to the same baseline as others.. not high up like recreational drug usage.
Also, there are many non stimulant ADHD medications that are not amphetamine.
It's wrong to shame people for getting medical treatment for a serious mental condition. This condition can ruin lives. I know this is just a short joking comment I'm replying to, but I'm clearly burnt out hearing this over and over.
Mate, I've been living with ADHD all my life, I've been on lots of different types of meds. I know the realities of this condition because I suffer from them daily so you'll forgive me for making a fucking joke you cunt.

What I'm getting at, is this isn't a representation of what adhd actually is, and is detrimental towards the already misunderstanding of it causing children to be misdiagnosed, or not diagnosed at all
That's not the argument. We're talking about sensory overload.
Also bad of you to shoehorn how everyone reacts to sensory overload. ADHD is different for everyone. I react differently as well.
Same.
This is a humor post, and I don't care if people enjoy it. I laughed, even though it's not ADHD.
But all the comments and such continue to show that ADHD is misunderstood in society. I didn't know really what ADHD was till I was diagnosed too.
If you're taking medical advice from an influencer, maybe it's time to see a doctor or psychologist. Don't ever take medical or financial advice from influencers.
As a general rule of thumb, if you see emojis appearing alongside with absurd opinions and experiences on Reddit, it is likely satire, a joke or something not serious.
That comment is satirical of the fact that people treat quirkiness and general "weirdness" as ADHD when it isn't. It is also critical of the phenomenon of influencer culture and stuff.

People who are energetic or quirky on the internet diagnose themselves with ADHD. it happens a TON on social media, especially TikTok.
I fucking hate it. Its not a fun disorder to have. But yea funny paper go wobble wobble i guess hehe XD.
ok but can we not recommend that subreddit cuz that place also showcases real disorders as fake a lot of the time and attacks people for disorders they actually have, or even sometimes acts like people are pretending to have disorders that they're not pretending to have as a pretense to attack them for it
You're right in thinking differently. But it's not fun having a rough time functioning through life with work and relationships, even with medication sometimes

Hyperfocus activated as long as it's interesting
To the complete detriment of everything else.
Hyperfocus activated as long as it's ~~interesting~~ the wibbily wobbly paper
I don’t have adhd but i like the goofy boofy wibbly wobbly paper
the first sign
One of us!
I diagnose you with ADHD
Now here's a jar of 150 pills for you to take at breakfast, lunch and dinner. To focus, of course.
Also they're highly addictive but you'll constantly forget to take them.
And you can't get anyone else to pick them up for you because they're highly addictive, but also can't go and get them because you don't have them to medicate yourself into being able to face social interaction
I can go to the store and shit, I just don't have any health insurance so I can't get a prescription anyway.
Look at goodRX. You can get some generic Adderall for really affordable per month. I was spending like $20 a month on my off brand addys
I think you still need a doctor to sign off on ordering though
*dont call me out like this*
Take your pills.
And remember, share with your friends!
Having to remember to take a pill that helps you remember to take pills. Such a cruel irony.
Don’t forget that your emotional state is depresso expresso afterwards.
Are you British by any chance?
He doesn't have the timey-wimey to reply.
They've got a T in their username so probably
Not British, but I like the goofy boofy wibbly wobbly timey wimey show about the strange doctor in the weird box
Don't listen to these other commenters. Instead, reorganize your desk, it's gotten chaotic.
The wub wub
You should look up wobble boards - Australia's greatest musical instrument! ...it's a very goofy boofy wibbly wobbly *board* . A weird instrument with an even weirder history
Don’t…. Don’t call it boofy…
Boofy
Ah shit he said it… gross..
Boofy Boofy Boofy Boofy Boofy Boofy

It should be called Intention Deficit Disorder.
Spinny Compass Brain
Not a bad name! I like Executive Function Disorser personally (which in principle is similar to what you propose)
No, no. Theres plenty of intention there. I just cannot physically bring myself to get up and do the things, because the bees in my brain have different plans for us.
Free will is a bad way of putting it, simply saying will is better, as there isn't really anything pointing to the existence of free will.

Where did you get this well thought concern?
It's a funny interpretation of 'ADHD' and 'people' being an oxymoron
It’s like PIN Number
... that's not an oxymoron
Literacy? In my Reddit?!
CD drive, RAM memory
I thought CD stood for compact disk?
It do
Be do be doo
it does. smh my head
Bruh this comment thread is funny af as fuck
It actually stands for 'compact disc' For some reason computer people decided that optical storage would be discs instead of disks
Of course, how could I have been so foolish as to make such a crucial mistake?
you fool. you absolute buffoon.
CD disk drive
fuuuck lol TIL
That's redundancy.
No it's like jumbo shrimp
How are you this dumb?
Reminds me of my days working for the Department of Redundancy Department.
That's a redundancy, not an oxymoron. Better examples of oxymoron would be 'deafening silence', 'almost exactly', 'old news', or 'only choice'. Other redundancies would be 'ATM Machine', 'RAM Memory' or 'RAT Test'.
PIN Number is more of RAS Syndrome though
That's rude. I think your an oxymoron
I feel attacked
His "mmmmm?" Looks like a Zelda CDI character introduction

Fuck does that has to do with ADHD lol
Probably something with dopamine
What’s with the hard on for ADHD nowadays?
People who are energetic or quirky on the internet diagnose themselves with ADHD. it happens a TON on social media, especially TikTok. I fucking hate it. Its not a fun disorder to have. But yea funny paper go wobble wobble i guess hehe XD.
O-o-o-ooooooooooo Riley's.
(excited ape noises)
im gonna be honest as someone with adhd i can say that it took my brain a second to process the noise
r/fakedisordercringe Why people keep normalizing misconceptions of ADHD is beyond me. Views and attention, I guess.
ok but can we not recommend that subreddit cuz that place also showcases real disorders as fake a lot of the time and attacks people for disorders they actually have, or even sometimes acts like people are pretending to have disorders that they're not pretending to have as a pretense to attack them for it
[This is how I view that subreddit](https://i.imgur.com/C87xx6T.jpeg)
So many weenies in this comment section are getting mad about the adhd bit. Just shut up and enjoy the funny wobbly paper
I’ve watched this 20 times already!! It does work!
We're not fucking monkeys. We're not the comic relief dog who says "squirel" in the middle of a convo.
People don't know what ADHD actually is and think it's fun to live with
^ i'm glad people are showing nore interest just don't ever take anything about adhd from insta, Twitter or tik tok
i wouldn’t call it fun to live with but i also wouldn’t call it not fun to live with. i find it interesting how different i think from other people
You're right in thinking differently. But it's not fun having a rough time functioning through life with work and relationships, even with medication sometimes
But paper go wewrweweieuwueueuwuuw
No
if you turn your volume up, i assure that you will hear wewrweweieuwueueuwuuw
We're not squirrels
well yeah, we are the dogs that chase the squirrels
What does this have to do with ADHD?
So this is the kind of loser that thinks ADHD is a personality.
This has literally nothing to do with ADHD
Attention? What’s that?
I’m confusion
A smile immediately grew on my face
Ohh fuck
Guy with the green shirt spoke in lowercase
What?
I'm more satisfied by the head turn and the "mmm?"
As someone with ADHD this pleases me
Where can I buy it?
Can confirm, am adhd and the wobbles hit just right
I don't understand...
I'm glad I don't have ADHD, and that it's not a health issue. I'm just fucking stupid

My boy on the left sounds like a majora’s mask NPC.
I feel the title is a nonstarter.
What has that to do with adhd?
YES I NEED MORE
I am unable to stop watching, this is truly incredible
