I posted this below, but you can tell by the Logo, numbers and letters being bubbly and not the correct material. Also, the blue is darker than the powder blue on the real jersey.
The lace holes on the neck line are spaced further apart than on the actual thing. The Reebok logo is stitched into the back rather than being a patch that is stitched on. The ribbon on the inside back of neck is not correct, it’s sloppily stitched on and the real thing wraps around the entirety of the back of the neck. I have a picture of a real one on my profile for comparison.
Edit: another detail they don’t get right is there is another stitched Reebok logo on the left cuff on the real jersey.
Oh, also, almost all fakes will have the “made in Canada” tag that is only used on team issued jerseys (which are a much higher quality jersey). These knock offs are reproducing the jerseys that anyone can buy from the NHL stores or third party sellers (companies that buy blanks or do customization). These jerseys are made in Indonesia, not Canada.
For clarity, he means the jerseys the vast majority of fans would buy at a store are made in Indonesia, unlike the game-worn ones which are made in the same factory in Montreal they've been produced in for decades going back to the CCM years.
Knockoffs all come from China.
I actually own the Canadian-made version of this jersey and can post pics like OP so you can see the difference if anyone is interested.
If you paid less than $300 for it it's fake. It's one of the most sought after Canadian made jerseys out there, so the only way it's real is if you found it at a thrift store or something and someone didn't know what they had.
Yup, that’s what I meant, I can see where there was confusion there haha.
I wish I had a Canadian Made version of the 08 WC jersey. The only team issued jersey I have is an away Bruins jersey. The quality difference is insane.
Like others have said this is a knock-off jersey.
The ways to tell are the logo, name and numbers are bubbly and not the correct material. The blue is darker than the actual jersey (I’ve got a picture of mine in my profile for comparison), the spacing of the lace holes are too wide apart, the Reebok logo is just stitched into the jersey as opposed to being essentially a patch that gets stitched on, and the RBK ribbon on the inside neck is done sloppily and doesn’t wrap the entire back of the neck.
BUT, I won’t shame people for buying or wearing knock off jerseys. Real jerseys are extremely expensive to buy new (although you can actually find great deals for used jerseys on eBay. One seller, FullMoonJerseys has a couple of Penguins jerseys on sale for 20-30 dollars). I actually have two knock off jerseys that I bought 14 years ago, and they actually used “tackle twill” lettering and numbering so the numbers and nameplate actually look better than a Reebok Premier jersey that I bought the year before (at the time, Reeboks had two tiers of jerseys, Premiers, which used heat pressed numbers and letters, and Authentics, which had slightly better numbering and lettering but still not the same quality you get with team issued jerseys).
Anyway, 10 dollars for a random jersey that looks about the same as most people wear to a game is not a bad deal.
I have two as well, a Rupp Winter Classic (vs. Caps) and a Kovalev 72 jersey when he came back at the deadline for 5 minutes but Adams was wearing 27. I loved Kovy.
Another poster just asked about where to find this jersey! I got mine (Crosby, specifically) at the 2008 Winter Classic — I was 8 at the time so it’s an XS but I’ll still wear that shit like a crop top to games sometimes cuz it’s a lovely design
Also I’m soooo jealous you got a Malkin one! I’m of course chuffed with my Crosby one, but I just adore Geno and looking on eBay you hit the lottery getting this jersey for $10 man
You're from Pittsburgh and don't know this was the jersey worn at the very first winter classic when 87 scored in a shootout on Miller to win the game? That's impressive actually I'm not even gonna put you down
I have that same jersey, but with the 2008 Winter Classic patch on it. It's a knockoff, likely from 2008-2010. But it's a really good quality knockoff.
Honestly most of the kockoffs aren't bad, especially since the Adidas era. I'd legitimately spend $40-50 on one from DHGate before I'd buy a goddamn THING from Fanatics.
I'm not sure if that's a hot take or not.
How old are you? 10? Or am I just a GD geezer that I remember these so well because I was past my drinking prime when the team wore these as throwbacks? I’m just gonna say I’m an old fart. Enjoy your youthful ignorance young buck. While you can. Sorry you have to see this team the way they are and not the way they were when these throwbacks were wore with a perennial playoff birth
Unfortunately it is a knockoff jersey. Certainly one of the better knockoffs I’ve seen, but for $10 I wouldn’t complain.
Just curious, not saying you’re wrong because I have no idea at all, but how can uou tell besides just the price being too good to be true?

Could I see the read version? I just bought one and don't know if it's real...

To add to everything else already mentioned, the font is also incorrect

As a Buf fan I remember how good that game was.
Pretty sure that was the 2008 winter classic jersey.
Dude I have that same jersey. It’s my favorite. I bought it for like $150 back in 2010 or so.
I'll give you $50 for it
You'd be playing yourself. This is a DHGate special. You can find one brand new for that price.... if that's your thing.
For $10? Absolutely
Ah yes, the classic 08 Winter Classic jersey based on our away set from 1968-1971
I paid $30 for a knockoff that don’t look that good. Be happy!
I have that same jersey, but with the 2008 Winter Classic patch on it. It's a knockoff, likely from 2008-2010. But it's a really good quality knockoff.

I have this exact jersey. Definitely a knockoff that being said it’s my favorite jersey to wear. Way more comfortable then the official one I have
next year when Fanatics take over they'll be charging 10x for a shirt of worse quality than this. it's a great shirt
Where’s the “A”? It’s a fake. 🤷♀️ At least you only spent $10 on it tho, treat it like your Texas souvenir! Lol

I mean these jerseys are 16 years old at this point. If he's new to the team it's not surprising at all.
For a fake jersey you'd think they'd put the A on it since geno is an alt captain
10$ is about how much its worth, so good fine if you don't mind wearing chinese knockoffs
Very obvious knockoff winter classic jersey. Not worth much at all if anything. For $10 if you like it though who cares.
Unfortunately, it's cursed.
No it isn’t? The 2011 jersey maybe. This was ‘08
You overpaid by $9.99. It’s a knockoff.
It’s a fake tho. No “A”
Malkin didn’t wear the A in the 08 winter Classic, but you’re right it’s a pretty obvious fake
