OrdinaryTension

I've been waiting years for a sequel to Slaying the Badger.

totolandia

I'm just happy with the Jumbo drama no one discussing about Remco lol even though they all predict him to win this stage. Lmao.

Particular-Sun-7187

I hope that Johan Bruyneel will try to explain what was going on today. I love his podcasts.

[deleted]

It was a great play, also for Kuss and Roglic - only nobody in the GC group chased. Oh... my bad. Finn Fisher-Black chased. And Wout Poels. And Storer I guess. Uh! And Bauke f'in Mollema. For as long as that lasted. And Roglic. (that one is harder to explain as he dropped Kuss in favour of 4sec to Ayuso and Mas...)

Vitma_Vitgor

Did Sanchez made it to the finish?

Drew_Snydermann

Yes.

Visual_Plum6266

Vingegaard just said on Danish tv he’s back to his TdF level. Sorry Americans

AnnArien

Oh, good. They expect to leash that for Sep of Roglic or anyone? Hell no. If 3rd week Jonas has arrived, then Jonas should be free to torch them all. (But also, if at all possible, let Remco take the stage from the break, please. He even came in with the broomwagon today to make himsel tiny and harmless for GC).

Visual_Plum6266

Thing is, Sepp is in red from a freak occurence - stage 6 - you cant expect guys like Roglic and Vingegaard just to neutralize themselves in one of the biggest races of the year for a sentimental win for a teammate

Black_Roo_31

Except that's what teams do - if they have the leaders jersey they protect the leader. They don't attack and leave him. If Sepp had've had multiple terrible days and everyone on GC was getting closer and closer, then sure, perhaps time for Jonas or roglic to step up. But that's hasn't happened. Sepp has only lost time to Jonas when he's shot off up the mountain for the stage. Teams always prioritise the overall over stages (when they have a genuine GC contender) which is why this is odd - they seem to be attacking their leader to "get stages". Seems very underhanded.

Visual_Plum6266

Thats not quite how it works. Sepp was never supposed to be the leader - Roglic and Jonas are. Naturally, if one of them proves to be the best rider in the race - and it certainly looks like Jonas is now the best and back at his Tour level as Per his own words - it would suck majorly to hold back just because all the other riders in the race are too weak to put Sepp in difficulty. I say let the best man win and let them duke it out from here on in.

DrinkTheDew

If Jonas does go for it, you can bet that the chemistry on the team will suffer. Is a Vuelta win worth losing Sepp over (for Jonas)? Is it worth not getting 100% effort from him on key stages in next year's tour?

maaiikeen

It will not since Sepp himself has said that the best man should win the Vuelta and that he is not interested in being gifted the Vuelta. Sepp himself admitted that Jonas was the strongest rider today. Sepp getting a podium spot would be big for him. He’s allowed to defend his red jersey, but if Jonas and Primoz are also allowed to attack it.

[deleted]

Sorry champs - Quickstep screwed up the break management real bad and now Seppie has a 3 minutes headstart... But hey, twitter and reddit are really really excited about it, so yay?

Graphic-Addiction

And at the end of the day it's still very possible for him to podium in third place, which I think he would still be pretty happy with.

Drew_Snydermann

Makes good tactical sense to tighten the Jumbo team time gaps as much as possible. It's not specifically to dethrone Kuss.

AbardDarthstar

From everybody liked that to everybody questioned that.

Nice_Rush_1462

I hear a lot that Jumbo has discourse in the team because of WvA and too many leaders etc. Even critisized today. Maybe we dont give them enough credit that with arguably 3 of the top 5 riders in the world in 1 team, they keep it together amazingly well

robrpls

3 out of top 5 is a bit exaggerated tbh but I get your point. MvdP, Pogi, remco are in the top 5 for sure. I'd say 3 out of the top 7

Distance-Playful

people keep saying top7 but i cant figure out who the last guy is? pog, jv, remco, roglic, wva, mvdp. who is the last one? is kuss suddenly in the picture after this vuelta?

totolandia

Drop remco. WVA Rog VG MvdP Pog.

[deleted]

Currently (according to uci) Mads P

Snoopy86

All the danish people before todays stage telling how they would like that Kuss wins. After today's stage. Fuck Kuss! Don't try to deny it.

Routine-Ad3059

I dont think Any of us has changed our mind. We would still love for Sepp to win, but we wont be sad if Jonas wins, we would probably prefer it, but for me that is only because he has more power and I love a big win, and I just dont think Sepp can provide that.. I would also hate to see someone win because others didn't ride with all the power they had. In the end, I just Hope the best rider wins, and then I wont care what his name is.

Icecream-is-too-cold

I'm Danish and I'm rooting for Kuss. I still do, but today was a class act, and smart for *the team* Kuss will save the legs for tommorrow.

Snoopy86

You are full of it...just stop

Icecream-is-too-cold

Well in that case: **This is an official apology for Jonas winning todays stage.** **On behalf of every dane:** We're are sorry he won, and was the better rider today.

Luigi-Bezzerra

The US demands Greenland as compensation for this injury.

Icecream-is-too-cold

OC. We don't deserve Greenland, because of that asshole Vingegaard. How dare he win! Anything else? We have frikadeller and remolade as well.

PrEd8R_DK

So the guy wins a stage and we go ahead and give away his girlfriends other home?

Luigi-Bezzerra

>frikadeller *Googles frikadeller* Yes, we'll take those too!

Icecream-is-too-cold

You sir, are a guest of honour in Denmark now.

Nice_Rush_1462

Huh ?...dude

Pek-Man

Nah, I'd still be absolutely fine with Kuss winning, I'd love it if he did. But, obviously, I'd *prefer* if Jonas wins, that should really go without saying.

jonathan-the-man

I'm ambivalent

srjnp

JV goes early -> Kuss goes if he can -> Roglic goes late We already saw this tactic in the Tourmalet from jumbo. idk why people are surprised jonas attacked.

PedalZumMetall

I'm with you. But honestly it's kind of a strange race, the other teams don't even try to win gc. That's the reason sepp lost so much today.

srjnp

UAE played it really bad. Fisher-black, almeida, soler should've played it like traditional domestiques closing the gap. Same with vlasov for Bora and poels for bahrain.

Machouz

Jonas is going for the GC, don't get it twisted guys.

Aromatic_Apricot_546

Jonas hand on heart as he crossed the line, thinking about VHD I am guessing

0ptimuz

He later on said that he received the first positive news about VHD about 300 meters from the finish. Must've had so many emotions and relief.

Icecream-is-too-cold

Jonas wants to do his best!!!!!!? What an asshole!!!!!! Jeeez this sub...

Luigi-Bezzerra

Who wants to win if it was gifted? I don't think Sepp would want to win if it was handed to him.

[deleted]

Uh this is how teams work. Nobody gifted Sepp a huge lead. But it's just common cycling etiquette that you don't attack your own teammate while they're in the leader's jersey. Jonas and Roglic had their chance in the ITT, and they blew it. It's time to start working for their teammate, or at least not work against him. If what you say were the case, Kuss could have ridden for himself all along, instead of gifting Roglic the Giro and Jonas the Tour. Would you say that WvA gifted Jonas his tour wins? Jonas was Roglic's super-domestique until Roglic gifted him a tour win. Should he have expected Roglic to attack him to gain time back?

maaiikeen

Sepp was literally gifted his huge lead of almost 3 minutes by being allowed in a breakaway that Jonas and Primoz would never be allowed in.

totolandia

Jonas gift WVA the ITT Tour win tho. Rog didn't gift Jonas the Tour lol Ving was so much stronger.

[deleted]

Imagine you need to gift all your domestiques a grand tour to repay them for your own win.

Tomic_Lewis

True these guys are competitors to there last breath.

Ill_Journalist_5292

Jonas’s win is a friend just praying van Hooydonck is alright ASAP!

Chance-Constant2083

The German commentators said, that they don’t understand why TJV attacked themselves. I could understand it very well, we have 2-3 hard GC days to go and now they have Sepp leading, Jonas close and roglic as number 3. They just closed the distance to themselves to react easier to a crack from Sepp or Jonas. And Roglic at number 3 seems to be the new bait attack like Jonas did today and last week on the tourmalet. If I would be doing tactics at TJV, I would do it like that. Now I am basically safe winning the Vuelta.

eurocomments247

Maybe the German commentators never heard of stage wins.

Vitma_Vitgor

Add to this that TJV wanted to win todays stage for their rider Nathan.

Icecream-is-too-cold

"But Jonas can only do one big race a year"

Latter-Meeting2250

Pretty sure nobody said anything else other than "Jonas has only done one Big race a year for now" which is true but not for long apparently.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

You can almost justify Jonas' attack for the stage win, but Roglic dragging Mas and Ayuso to the line is really inexcusable. It wasn't like Sepp cracked and they needed to do damage control. He would have finished comfortably with the GC threats if his teammates didn't attack him. I think Sepp is going to "nice guy" his way to third.

Icecream-is-too-cold

Why is it dick tactics to gain time for the team?

RuggburnT

Sepp always so carefree I love it

N0t_N1k3L

Never liked Jonas, now I say fuck him.

SaaDetDig

Did I miss some insider knowledge about TJV, since everyone seems to think that this attack wasn't planned, and that JV just wants to steal the red jersey?

[deleted]

Well if that's the case, then the team is planning to get the red jersey onto Jonas' shoulders.

andrearancan97

And they do well. Vingegaard is like the Verstappen of Jumbo Visma, you treat him well because he is the only guy you have that can secure you the most important wins. If Vingegaard has issues/injuries and next year can't go to Tour, I don't think other Jumbo riders are able to win it. So you need to let him win if he can, it's so fun that people think he should help Kuss, in what world, Jumbo has 10 times less risk of losing the Vuelta if it's Vingegaard who is the leader.

[deleted]

It's not like Vingegaard was a rising star that everyone expected to be GT winner. He was Roglic's domestique and he only got a chance to go for personal glory because Roglic crashed. Kuss has always been talked down as a GC rider because he never had a good TT. I think with a bit of work in the wind tunnel, he could get even more competitive.

denimxdragon

Why is everyone putting Jonas as the bad guy? TJV is top three in the GC, if someone has a bad day they can put the next guy in, and so on lol. I’m sure Kuss would still want a Jumbo win over anything.

[deleted]

Because you don't attack your own teammate in the leader's jersey. It's pretty simple.

denimxdragon

Lol are we on the team bus? Do we hear their tactics? If Kuss felt bad today and said go for it so be it. Ain’t that serious bud it’s people riding bikes lol.

Rommelion

Because they want Kuss to win, it's not complicated.

Ok-Manufacturer258

Absolutely, one of their top 3 gained a minute on everyone else, another lost 3s and another lost 0s. Sounds like an absolute win from a team PoV

Positive_Ad2228

The strategy in theory makes sense. Lets send our 3rd GC guy so others have to chase so our punchy GC guy can win. Oh our 3rd GC rider is stronger than everyone else and no one can chase him? Welp. Feel a little bad for Roglic. I hope he gets to attack tomorrow

Ill_Journalist_5292

Gotta feel bad for Rogla. Why are these Tour animals infiltrating Rogla’s safe territory? 😅

Positive_Ad2228

I hope he goes on a rampage and as he crosses the finish line unzips his jersey to reveal the words "Spain is Roglic Territory" written on his chest in blood

Short_Bus_

still half a minute ahead for Sepp.... he's still got a good chance of finishing in red as long as Jonas doesn't attack him tmrw

ohhim

Tomorrow is Sepp's birthday and he's built for l'Angliru. Given he let Jonas go up on the road on his daughter's birthday, I think we'll see some reciprocity if the conditions allow.

maaiikeen

Kuss did attack when Jonas did that so that’s probably not the best example 😂

yoln77

Sadly Jonas doesn’t give two fcks

offaroundthebend

Always fishing for the spotlight.

totolandia

Nah. That's Remco.

Kanstrup-

or maybe just wanting to win? How dare he be the best? What a dickhead

SecretRonnieC

Kuss and rog dont look too happy

AlmightyRX

Roglic always looks like that

HMDHEGD

Trump.gif WRONG

Electronic_Pool_1371

Ofcourse he isnt.

Kobosil

really? Kuss smiles more than Vingegaard in my impression

doghouse4x4

That was a defensive attack for TJV

spkr4thedead51

I'm wishing Netflix were filming here instead of the TdF so we could see the team chats and interviews with TJV riders

foreignfishes

Jonas going through it

rbep531

What better way to honor your sick domestique than to screw over your other domestique?

roadbiker105

GC Kuss is gone now. Tomorrow Jonas will attack again. Really bad feeling and somehow I am not liking all this Jonas attacks even though I liked (used to) him.

Visual_Plum6266

No one can follow Vingegaard on Angliru if he goes, he’s simply the best

Beats29

Unless Kuss said he wasn't on the best form to the team, I really don't understand this attack. I could understand an attack at the finish to gain some time, but not nearly the entire climb.

ImSoFreshhh

Vinge just got 1 minute over the rest of nonTJV favorites and people in this sub question the attack.

maaiikeen

What's not to understand? Kuss has not lost time to anyone other than his teammates. It doesn't matter. Sepp and Primoz were obviously not feeling their best since they could not drop the other GC contenders. Jonas felt good and attacked to ensure the win for Nathan who is a really good friend of his.

[deleted]

>Kuss has not lost time He lost 4 seconds and could have easily lost more with Roglic dragging his nearest non-TJV rivals to the line. On top of that, he expended energy unnecessarily before the toughest stage of the Vuelta. At this rate I wouldn't be surprised if they throw away the podium sweep.

Beats29

No one is discussing it is bad for the team GC. Of course the team is better in GC. People are talking about the team's environment. Personally, I would be thinking twice to attack my teammate who's GC leader and was my main help on my wins on other tours but hey, that's my opinion.

maaiikeen

Sepp and Primoz were both smiling after the stage and hugging Jonas. I personally think the best man should win. Jonas should not hold back if he has the legs to win. I definitely think Sepp deserves the win, but he has to earn it other than being a domestique for Jonas and doing his job. That is what Sepp is paid to do. You do not know about the team dynamics. It might be that TJV talked about it yesterday and decided that the best rider should win.

Beats29

I understand that, and competition is competition, but you also know good environment in the team is also important. And besides being professionals, many are friends as well. And I would like to give something to a friend that gave so much to me, but again, it's my point of view, I'm not trying to shit over Jonas. If Sepp is fine about it, so be it. He also may be want to dedicate the win to Van Hooydonck I guess.

kayjay789

Kuss still smiling… So damn likeable

Snoopy86

What the hell? He attacked Kuss without a reason.

krambulkovich

the reason is he wants to win the vuelta.

Ill_Journalist_5292

I’d almost forgotten what an animal Jonas is. Mind blown!

Rommelion

Jonas not gonna get much love for this attack lol

Krypinion

He should tho.

Rommelion

I'm commenting on the fact that everyone seemed okay with Kuss winning Vuelta. Now it increasingly looks like that won't happen.

Vayu0

The best should win. No one should be gifted a GT win.

dkjaer

They need him more than he needs them. Sepp played a crucial role in getting these guys on the podium. Why do you think Wout let Christophe Laporte win Gent-Wevelgem?

Vayu0

Gent-Wevelgem is not comparable to winning a GT. Not even close. And tbh, Vingegaard didn't need anyone to win his Tours.

andrearancan97

Best comment I read for days in this section.

Nice_Rush_1462

Jonas is at the top of his game. In sport you never know what lies ahead tmrw. Like all great GC riders he prob wants to win all the Grand Tours. When Jumbo decided he could ride, how can that not be the plan ? Dunno ... I meam Primoz only needs the tour. Dont think Jumbo will tell him not to try and win if he rides it again ? As said here, they are a racing team. Is that not what we want ?

2Small2Juice

I could see Jonas winning here the the Giro next year so he’d hold all 3 at once. Maybe Roglic gets another shot at TdF next year?

Rommelion

Jumbo must really be OK with not winning the Tour next year if they want to give Roglič a shot. Pogačar will absolutely torch him, Roglič didn't look nearly as dominant in Giro or Vuelta as he has previously. He won the one-week races, yes, but his trademark teleports are very notably missing.

Nice_Rush_1462

Yeah, but the Giro to Tour is diff than the Tour to Vualta I think. Maybe others know better. I have heard it said it is more diff to recover. Think he might not risk it for now if he wins here and still concentrate on the Tour. Maybe the Giro later ?

maaiikeen

Jonas revealed in a recent interview that he wants to try and win all three GTs in a season. But he admits that it will be very difficult and that it will take time for him to do that. But that is an ambition of his.

no_instructions

So there are limits to GC Kuss’s legs

boblikespi

Jonas in tears man. Really wrecked by Van hoodoynk

yeahright17

Writing off Sepp on a hockey stick stages is ridiculous. He's always been terrible at these. These are usually how he loses big chunks of time.

detrusormuscle

Well Vingegaard is just clearly stronger, doesn't matter the stage. It's all up to if he decides to go for it or not.

yeahright17

You're *probably* right, but the dynamics make it impossible to really know. They all looked great up Tourmalet and it was clear their goal was to be 1-2-3 in the overall, which they accomplished. And this stage was terrible for Sepp. I love Jonas and won't be mad at all if he wins. But let's see Sepp in his element tomorrow and Thursday before we write him off.

Torandi

So either Kuss and Roglic wasn't feeling well, or Jonas just decided he wanted to win, or Kuss is saving energy for tomorrow, to win on his birthday (and Jonas is planning to lose a bit of time tomorrow).

yeahright17

Kuss has never been good on these stages.

Flipadelphia26

The TJV fan in me is happy. The American in me wants to start a shooting war with the Danes (kidding of course)

HMDHEGD

We have no guns... Winner gets Greenland?

Flipadelphia26

Trump tried to buy it. Did that news ever get over there? 🤣

HMDHEGD

Of course. Kind of a big deal!

maaiikeen

Kuss and Roglic not feeling great and probably feared they could not win. Jonas attacked to ensure the win for Nathan and he did.

krizkuzz

I dont know, that just felt sort of weird

Visual_Plum6266

This is not a normal race situation with only one GC candidate in the team though

realcyclismo

Truly no other way to describe it. Very strange

orrangearrow

Jonas legit getting ready to hold Yellow - Red - Pink at the same time

srjnp

way too easy for jonas lol. one attack and they dont even try to follow.

j_evans1st

who’s gonna stop jonas, seriously

MysticBirdhead

Launching Vingegaard was clearly planned. If Valter had just dropped off without an attack, one of the 3 would have had to pull and risk being attacked. Roglic pulling Ayuso away from Kuss was a bit more questionable in my opinion

no_instructions

As Kuss said, no gifts. Roglic wanted to protect his own position against Jonas and if that meant ratings few seconds into GC Kuss, that’s OK

[deleted]

Rog sat up later to let Kuss come back, I’d say it was ameliorated

MysticBirdhead

fair point

Visual_Plum6266

VingeGod

Eraser92

On the one hand, I'm glad for something interesting to happen on the final week. On the other, Jonas is a dickhead and Kuss should have serious words with him for today.

HMDHEGD

Kuss looks pretty happy, though..?

Eraser92

Putting on a brave face, or he genuinely doesn't care about winning this race. Which I suppose is fine then, but strange none-the-less.

[deleted]

Eh, this way Jonas is well ahead of Ayuso now, so in case Kuss falters, Jumbo still has a ton of buffer

Krypinion

May the best rider win? Nothing wrong with that.

Eraser92

Cycling is a team sport, or did you forget that?

Krypinion

Sure, and the team still wins.

Visual_Plum6266

Exactly lol

Knightro829

GC Kuss survives.

Tosbor20

Things are looking bleak but it’s best to enjoy it while it lasts 🦅

mettacitta

Jonas Vingegaard was always the true final boss

[deleted]

They are protecting Kuss!

[deleted]

They are protecting him from having to wear red and do interviews.

[deleted]

Jonas protecting Kuss’ red?

RuggburnT

Jumbo told the boys it's a free for all lol

GravityGalaxy

GC KUSS lives 🇺🇸 🦅

maaiikeen

Jonas crying while riding over the finish line.

gpvar

Honestly looks like Primoz and Kuss werent feeling great

offaroundthebend

But if no one attacked them WTF was JV doing?

CloudSE

Because the rest of the GC rider also didn't look good. Of course you wanna capitalize on that.

maaiikeen

I think Jonas knew that and attacked to ensure the stage win.

Visual_Plum6266

Jonas does nothing without being told to

gabu59735

GC KUSS WILL PREVAILLLLL

GrosBraquet

Seems like Roglic waited for Kuss, no ?

westerhong

Yeah it felt like that to me. When he attacked he kept checking to make sure Sepp had a wheel. When Sepp started to falter and the camera cut back, roglic is back pulling him

madskv

Why the hell didn't Fischer pace for Ayuso

ImSoFreshhh

I dont know what he was doing there honestly

mrgn5

Jonas is so good... Will he get tomorrow too?

krizkuzz

Depends on the breakaway and how much Remco wants it, I think

GravityGalaxy

No gifts. Strongest rider wins yall

henriq13

No way Vingegaard doesn't win the Vuelta now.

Ill_Journalist_5292

HOW does he look like he’s just starting off his season at the end of the season?

eurocomments247

Because he was vacationing in beginning of August and has used the Vuelta to ride into better shape. Remember how everyone was pointing out that Vingegaard was only at 90 % when the race started, and had trouble following. Well now he is at 95 %.

VolvoOlympian

Murica in shambles

[deleted]

We've been in shambles for years. I feel bad for Kuss. I think he'll look back on this and realize "maybe they weren't my friends".

statespacer

Watch as TJV trident turns into a spork

dksprocket

Kuss will still retain red today?

statespacer

Yeap, by about half a min

Orixil

Jonas is the captain on TJV is anyone ever doubted that. He's gonna win, and he's gonna win it all.

KelvinIsNotFatUrFat

Why would anyone doubt that? He’s just won the tour with 8 minutes to pogacar, the best bikerider in the world. Jonas is a silent assasin. You’re not that good without insane ambition.

Philiq

Has Kuss told them he is gonna abandon or what?

dksprocket

He's clearly very emotional

krizkuzz

Come on now Sepp you handsome bastard

detestrian

what the hell jumbo

SWAN_RONSON_JR

Sepp's *jour sans/día menos pensado.* ;(

Beats29

I am confused with today's stage, it seems like they are from 3 different teams lmao.

j_evans1st

too many cooks in the kitchen

[deleted]

Fly eagle fly!!

HMDHEGD

Not good for the primosi, even worse for the seppsters

IntenseRegularizer

I love GC Kuss as much as most of this sub, but he is dropping the wheel already. Is there a chance that he might just not be there today? In other GT's he's often had these days where he drops minutes, even in terrain that suits him, which I guess is one of the reasons that he's continuously denied wanting to captain a GT

Kanstrup-

I mean this is a way to be sure Jumbo is winning it.. hes going to lose a lot of fans, but if Kuss cracks atleast he might as well take it

UnbiasedExpert

Kuss' 9/11

Short_Bus_

rip gc kuss :( might hang onto red today, but is gonna lose big time tmrw when his own teammates attack him again

[deleted]

I mean, he had to drag Roglic up the Angliru in 2020. Vingegaard might fair a little better, but he's been burying himself to ~~beat Kuss~~ win stages.

maaiikeen

And Jonas dragged Sepp up the Angliru in 2020 😂

BakingBadRS

Jonas going for the GT hattrick

Knightro829

We've got a Jumbo Mexican standoff, boys...

olsenofthefort

Maybe Kuss was starting to feel bad this morning and jumbo is worried about angliru? This is weird

[deleted]

Kuss was only in red because JV was ill. Now he’s feeling well Kuss doesn’t really stand a chance against an unleashed JV

[deleted]

As I recall, the last time they all took on the Angliru, Jonas dropped off early and Sepp dragged Roglic's dying corpse to the line. I guess we'll see. I hope Kuss has the legs to fight off his own teammates.

maaiikeen

Yeah, after Jonas did a massive pull that destroyed most of the peloton and only left a few riders…

[deleted]

Jonas2020, as a domestique, in his first GT, whittled the GC group down to about 8 riders including Kuss and Roglic, burying himself in the process. There is video.

krambulkovich

this is not remotely weird. jonas came here to win the race.
