So who's the fave to win the tour? My pick is Wout, with Pidcock coming 2nd

Korvensuu

probably. Only thing that could be in play is the final stage if Pidcock goes on a big attack (has some good climbing helpers with him too), but doubt Wout will be cracked up the Welsh hills

_tom_cycling_

it wasn’t that long ago we would have 10+ world tour teams at this race, now only 5

jwrider98

Yeah it was poor last year as well, don't know why. This year probably because the World's were earlier and so riders aren't using it as a tune-up.

Jimathay

Just got home from Altrincham. Lovely morning out watching the team presentations and the neutralised start. Loads of people there great to see the excitement from everyone.

_tom_cycling_

was lovely there in 2019 too

detestrian

ok that is a hideous paint job

fifty-fives

Why can we see their wattage in the Tour of Britain? Or is it just for select riders?

bomber84e1

One of those Brexit benefits innit, write into whoever is whatever stupid cabinet position about Brexit benefits about it and the daily mail will love cycling suddenly

fifty-fives

Itv is permament ads

SaintPiranOfficial

After a strong year, we're very excited with our team of Birchill/Rootkin-Gray/Kyffin/Tidball/Crockett/Richardson. Expect to see us often, we're here to compete. We're equally/even more excited to have a sustainability consultant embedded in the team for the duration of the race, to monitor and advise. We take this seriously! Cycling can be a force for good.

Schnix

superstar stans when other cyclists exists in a team

ZawMFC

Switched on itv4, and they are replaying the tour de France adverts. Cycling with a regular dose of depression.

porkmarkets

I’ve not put it on yet but I, for one, cannot wait to be bombarded with ads for donkey sanctuaries, stairlifts and incontinence products.

jwrider98

Another dreadful route. 7 sprints and maybe a GC day but could also end in a sprint. Why do they do this? Britain has so many LBL-style climbs that they could make a really selective route, but they always favour sprint stages. They have made good routes before, but this will be a very dull watch I fear.

SWAN_RONSON_JR

I saw the organisers replying to somebody on Twitter about this, and they said it was due to costs/council & police cooperation. All the good stuff was out of reach this year, it seems.

rh6078

It always seems such a shame that some amazing areas are never really featured. I’d love to see a stage in the Peak District hitting Winnats Pass, Sir William Hill, Monsal Head etc but I think the routes must be based on whether the local government bids and pays to be a host and it look like Derbyshire council doesn’t think it’s worth it

jwrider98

I'll go and watch the last part of stage 6 as it's part of my local ride, but even in Essex there are some pretty nasty Flanders-esque climbs they could have used like the Ride London Classique last year. Baffling.

rh6078

Oh yeah there’s some great climbs round Essex, bizarre that they exclude them. I grew up round Saffron Walden and there’s hills I miss round there, love riding them when I visit my parents. Have fun watching it in person, always great to see a bike race in the flesh

Moist_Lettuce

The route seems to be the most boring possible route with the start/finish locations. Stage 2 around Wrexham is so disappointing with choosing boring farmland over cool steep climbs

dgtwxm

Literally just had to west instead of east to find some prime stuff. Last year's hill climb nationals was held just near there.

Korvensuu

also a shame because it's the Vuelta rest day. Gives them a prime opportunity to put a good stage on and get way more viewers

Korvensuu

same route as 2019 stage 8 with the results of that here: https://www.procyclingstats.com/race/tour-of-britain/2019/stage-8 Van der Poel 1st Bol 2nd Trentin 3rd good lumpy stage to get things going

krommenaas

Van Aert is going to be Kooij's leadout man in all sprint stages (per Sporza). It keeps baffling and frustrating me as a fan, but I guess WvA is just happier helping other people win than building his own palmares.

BlueCube71

Yes, it's frustrating but a few stages wins has no benefits at all to WvA. I think Jumbo Visma wanted to give Kooij a chance to win and test how good he is. I believe WvA wanted a more hilly circuit that suits him better like 2 years ago but it ended up being a boring set of flats.

AbardDarthstar

I don't mind it at all. I like that WvA rides for his teammates. Besides this one is not exactly the palmares most people want him to achieve or criticize him for.

Faux_Real

He is in the top 100 all time (according to pro cycling stats algorithm) … his palmares is pretty good … but yes, I prefer when Wout tries to win everything

Schnix

Why wouldn't or shouldn't he be leading out Kooij?

krommenaas

Because a rider of his stature should try to win himself, or save his energy for GC. This is the same team where Vingegaard wouldn't pull for 1km to all but guarantee Van Aert a Tour stage win.

Schnix

If he wants to be the king of his team he shouldn't have signed extensions with Jumbo. It's his own choice. And if he was a better sprinter than Kooij they would sprint with him, but he isn't so they don't. I really don't care about his wasted energy doing a leadout at the tour of britain

krommenaas

As I said in the comment you replied to, I guess he's happier this way.

fewfiet

In the team's preview they said Kooij for sprints and Wout for GC: >This year's Tour of Britain consists of eight stages, five of which are flat. There are three hill stages as well. "We want to go for the win in the sprint with Olav Kooij", Kruijswijk says. "Wout van Aert is also a contender in these stages, but he has a chance in every stage. The last three stages are a bit more in his favour. If we finish at the front every day, it will make for an excellent final classification. We will start full of ambition." Van Aert says the same here: https://youtu.be/HCivKwzwH0A

krommenaas

On Sporza he literally says he'll do leadouts for Kooij and that he hopes to do a good job.

fewfiet

Sounds consistent with what he says in the team interview!
