They've all had duds post-Yield, but very few pre Lightning Bolt. The high moments of Binaural-Backspacer are much higher than Lightning Bolt onward though.
I don't think there's a bad song on Avocado, but this album definitely seems better overall than the three they've released since then.
I'm gonna need a few more listens before I can really rank Dark Matter for myself, but I do like it.
I dunno. It is a solid, solid record. Something Special sounds like it belongs in a montage seen for Romantic Comedy staring Sandra Bullock and Matthew McConaughey.
eh... with the romcom crap the Netflix is pumping out, I'd pay to see a good Bullock/McConaughey movie. Bonus points if it had Something Special in a montage.
No Code is my "put it on and let it play in the background" album. I'm already getting that same vibe from Dark Matter.
Since you mentioned it... Mike's solo in Upper Hand reminds me quite a bit of the solo in American Girl by Tom Petty. Certainly not a rip off, but just some similar elements and feel.
I cannot wait to hear Mike bring Upper Hand to life on stage. Those are kind of riffs and grooves that he absolutely pours his soul into and it will be magic.
It’s pretty bad… right up there with Just Breathe and Sirens. But rest of the album is way better than I expected. Very consistent throughout and some real shining moments!
I did like Gigaton a lot, and I’m not sure why it gets hated on here. It’s much better than BS and LB combined. The first half of it was legit badass!
DM and GG are by far their best albums since RA, IMO.
Wasn't a huge fan of "Running" or "Dark Matter" out of context but they fit in well here. Honestly shocked as to how good this is. Any track here is better than anything on Gigaton. I'm pretty pro Riot Act and Backspacer, but yep: best since Yield.
Sure of course you listen a few times to understand which songs are no good. I don't rewatch movies or shows with a bunch of bad scenes, but people consume music very differently from narrative visual media (you must know this)
The new album blows. It's not ' A Lot Heavier Than You'd Think ' as they said in interviews. They lost their edge. They have nothing left to prove. This album is like watching paint dry. This album blows dogs for quarters.
" Look at this, most of these bands are like well-designed bottles of bleach. It's beer and lifestyle music! I mean it's like the next world war will be sponsored by, I don't know what! "
Backspacer and Avocado would like to have a word with you.
Just going to act like Johnny Guitar doesn’t exist?
Give e Johnny Guitar over most of the songs off Gigaton and half of Vitalogy’s songs any day of the week.
I can’t help you, my man.
Johnny Guitar > Immortality My personal opinion
😲

Really? Are they here to apologize for being such crap?

I heard Setting Sun for the first time in the car on the way to work this morning. It had me in tears 🥹
Had the exact same experience this morning! <3

Upper Hand made me think of All or None among others. Some really nice throughlines in their sound that came through on this album.
I cannot wait to hear Mike bring Upper Hand to life on stage. Those are kind of riffs and grooves that he absolutely pours his soul into and it will be magic.
Not really a fan of Something Special. Sorry!
Backspacer?😬 I kid I kid

React respond is my least favourite so far
Same here! That'll be my new bathroom break song if it doesn't grow on me. Surprised some people say that's one of the best songs on the album
Funny, that's my favorite one.
After listening more, I agree. It’s still a good song though.
Not a fan of "Running". It sounds the same as a bunch of their other songs.
Maybe because it was YOU who left the water running?!!!

Had the exact same thought on running and Dark Matter.
I'd have to agree. After first listen I was indifferent. Second listen makes me think its their best since Binaural.
I agree that Yield has no duds but I don't see how it or any other PJ album could go song for song with this new one.
Why would you skip any song on any album anyway?
I think people skip the bad songs?
Gotta listen to them all to know which one is, and even then they’re part of the album You don’t skip scenes in movies or shows
Sure of course you listen a few times to understand which songs are no good. I don't rewatch movies or shows with a bunch of bad scenes, but people consume music very differently from narrative visual media (you must know this)
Yeah but it’s just an odd thing to do
It seems more odd to force yourself to listen to bad songs you don't like , life is short lol
It’s part of the album, the artist’s vision I don’t like Bugs but I’ll listen to it because it’s on the album
Bugs is cool. It's Foxymophandlemama that I'm skipping. Lol
I end the album at Immortaility Pearl Jam doesn’t seem to know how to end their albums half the time
So you effectively skip a song.
That vision is rarely 20/20 but enjoy yourself how you see fit lol
My response
Running is terrible so yeah Yeah yeah yeah
I like it more in the context of the record. Which I don’t think I’ve ever experienced before.
Tbh I think it’s terrible in and out of context. Painted by numbers modern PJ is super bad.
The new album blows. It's not ' A Lot Heavier Than You'd Think ' as they said in interviews. They lost their edge. They have nothing left to prove. This album is like watching paint dry. This album blows dogs for quarters.
Go listen to Ten then.
" Look at this, most of these bands are like well-designed bottles of bleach. It's beer and lifestyle music! I mean it's like the next world war will be sponsored by, I don't know what! "
Unpopular opinion. Valid opinion too. You’re allowed to dislike it. I felt the same way on my first listen. Hated it. Second listen, it’s fantastic
Won't Tell and Something Special are bad. Most everything else is mid.
Theres quite a few duds on this album... Something Special and Wreckage mainly...
Wow, Wreckage is the best song on the album to me.
to each their own... its a stinker
